Divine Find: The Prissy Hen

My colleague Kathy Haines just blogged about great consignment stores in the Fort Lauderdale area. Thanks for the segue, Kathy. In this Sunday's Shop-o-matic section in Lifestyle, we feature The Prissy Hen in our Divine Find column. (And isn't it a small world...The Prissy's Hen's owner Diane Bosler used to own Hibiscus, the store Kathy was writing about!)

Here are the details from contributor Bonnie DiPacio:

The Prissy Hen
1825 Cordova Road, The Harbour Shops, Fort Lauderdale, 954-462-4484; Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m; Sunday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Owner: Diane Bosler. .

Quote: “A lot of folks just drop by to see Maxie,” says Bosler. Maxie is Bosler’s 2-year-old Havana bred Havanese pup, the shop’s official “greeter.”

Wow Factor: The bright raspberry, lime green and yellow decor accented with yellow and green daisies is a whimsical backdrop for the plethora of vintage and “previously worn” items that fill every inch of this delightful consignment store. Bosler says the fine quality of items available, especially the designer and couture apparel, has drawn in some “well-heeled clients” who not only drop off items to sell, but pick up some great buys themselves.

Don’t miss: Pashmina wraps (shown at right), in a wide variety of colors for $15; Cynthia Rowley sunglasses for $26; and jewelry that ranges from $12 to $600 (estate quality). There is also a big selection of gift items (note pads, magnets, frames, etc.) that Bosler calls the “fun stuff.”

Editor’s picks: An incredible necklace made up of triple strands of genuine turquoise for $45. A darling little yellow handbag dotted with tiny green palm trees and topped with rattan handles for $19. Emilio Pucci 1970’s blouses that sell on eBay for $400, yours for $125.

Design for less: Designer shoes and handbags from Manolo Blahnik, Kate Spade and Gucci, to name a few, priced from $75 to $250. All in pristine condition. Have a big charity event coming up? There are $650 couture gowns (some with the tags still on) for $99.

Trivia: Bosler, the former owner of Hibiscus vintage consignment store on Las Olas Boulevard, named her shop for the girlfriend of legendary cartoon rooster Foghorn /Leghorn. The Prissy Hen definitely lives up to its motto: “We make our customers smile.”
