Domino magazine is closing

I hate to break the news to all you shopoholics: The rumors were true.

Domino magazine, the shopping guide for all of us who love to decorate our homes, will print its last issue in March.

I loved the great finds, the tips from Nick Olsen's blog (The Deal Hunter) and editor Deborah Needleman's quirky point of view.

"This decision to cease publication of the magazine and its website is driven entirely by the economy,” Charles H. Townsend, President and CEO of Condé Nast said in a press release e-mail this morning. “Although readership and advertising response was encouraging in the early years, we have concluded that this economic market will not support our business expectations.”

When I contacted the magazine to see what will happen to those folks with subscriptions to the magazine, the spokeswoman said that is "still to be determined." In the past, subscribers were given replacement subscriptions to other magazines. In this economy, it seems unlikely.

It has been survival to the fittest in the design mag business recently. House & Garden is gone. So is O at Home. And now Domino.

This is one domino I didn't want to see fall. How about you? Did you like it? Or doesn't it matter?
