Shopping at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach

Have you been to the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach yet? I missed the star-studded preview party, but my husband and I went down this weekend to check it out.

Shopping is quite pricey, but Morris & Co. does stock a few affordable items, such as T-shirts with the now iconic FB logo that you have been seeing all over SoFla on billboards. It was only $25 and it makes you look as if you are "in the know" even if you can't afford the room rates. Maybe this is the new cool -- just snatching an affordable bit of the glam. The sleek, modern store also has cigar accessories, frames and children's toys. Name brands include cigar accessories, frames and children's toys. You will find it adjacent to LIV nightclub.

If you want to splurge, there's the embroidered Moon Over Miami pillow with a retro motif for $185.

Other shops have designer duds at designer prices, but if you can't afford them the experience is worth the tab. We went for drinks and two mojitos set us back $33.03, including tip. And valet parking is $18 plus tip.

Jeffrey Beers, president and CEO of Jeffrey Beers International, did a marvelous job of reinterpreting Morris Lapidus' design of the Fontainebeau for 21st century. If you are a fan of design and architecture, it's worth the price of admission.

The hotel is located at 4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, 305-538-2000.
