Oscar fashion vs reality

I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite from all the beautiful dresses on the Oscars last night. It's an escape from reality to admire fashiondom's finest on the red carpet. Did you notice this year, there were no Swans or Gap t-shirts to start tongues wagging?

The morning of the Oscars, fellow blogger Marcia and I made the trek over to the Miromar outlets on the west coast, between Naples and Ft Myers, a one hour drive across Alligator Alley. I was down to the wire looking for a dress for a wedding I'm attending Friday night.

My reality is that Marcia found for me, tucked away in a clearance rack in the Jones of New York outlet, an Evan Picone black dress marked down to $29. Not something I would have bought if I waited for the dress, but I was out of time, and for $29, who cares?

I couldn't help but chuckle as I watched the red carpet and the Oscars when I got home, with my $29 dress hanging in its plastic garment bag on my bedroom door in the background.

BTW, this is not necessarily a recommendation for that drive to the outlet mall, I probably would have done just as well at nearby Sawgrass Mills. The part of the trip I would recommend is watching the sunset with a Pina Colada at HBs on the beach behind the Naples Beach Club Hotel after a hard day of shopping. That place is hopping on Sunday evening.
