Publix coupons: Which coupons will they accept?
The Shop-o-matic bloggers were all astounded when Publix accepted Kathy's CVS coupon. It sounded almost too good to be true. Fact is: It was. Our Kathy was lucky, because Publix does not redeem CVS coupons. She thought she would pass the info on because it was the store manager who cashed it in for her.
According to Publix spokeswomn Kim Jaeger, Publix will accept coupons from its traditional supermarket competitors such as: Albertson’s, Food Town, Fresh Market, Presidente, Sedanos Super Markets, Tropical, Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets and Winn-Dixie.
Publix will not accept coupons from: BJ’s Wholesale Club, Costco, CVS, K-Mart, Meat or produce markets, Sam’s Club, SuperTarget, Walgreens, Wal-Mart SuperCenter, Whole Foods and Wild Oats.
Our advice: Print out this list and keep it with your coupons.

Now I've been to Publix several times and used Walgreens Coupons as well as Target coupons, I use them at almost every visit, and have never had a problem with it. Maybe it depends on the store?

Lauren, from what the PR person told us, you were just lucky.
It is corporate policy to accept only those on the list.

DARN - I could have used that $5 Albertsons coupon at Publix (except for the $4.99 Alaskan snow crab bundles Albertsons has on sale - til Tuesday I think - they were yummy)

Coupons accepted include all competitor coupons for groceries. Not Pharmacy coupons as Publix believes its in the best interest of the customer to do all their pharmacy purchases at one pharmacy. This avoids having many drugs at different pharmacies and not catching interactions.

I hope they don't come after me for the $5!!!!

Yeah, they have really been cracking down lately on the coupons being used. I run into an issue every time with a publix coupon & a manufacturer coupon. Corp. policy says YES you can use both on one item. However, you need to have the same number of items TOTAL to the number of coupons (in other words, you have 10 coupons, and 9 items, not going to work) ... I grab a banana or chili pepper to balance it out .

Does Publix accept the $10 off of $50 purchase coupons that the Winn Dixie registers print out some times? Thanks!

Do I have to do anything special to redeem competitor coupons, e.g. do I need to check out in customer service, give coupons upfront, etc.? Thanks!

Jane:
Publix is supoosed to accept any of the competitors coupons on the list in the blog post. Let us know if you have any trouble.

Jane, you should be able to get the coupons honored at any cashier. If you have any problems, ask for the manager.

I have a friend who went to Publix today and spent $6.11.....she saved....$122!!! How is that even possible? She also went to CVS today and got 18 packs of diapers for FREE and 9 packs of wipes....FOR FREE! How does one become so ridiculously good at couponing??

OMG! Lauren if you find out what your friend's secret is, let me know! I was laughing when I read your post. I always wonder how that is all possible too! The best I've saved at Publix is 57% off my bill which was a large shopping day. It was combining BOGO deals with mft. coupon & store coupons and using the $5 off $50 from Albertsons, etc. My goal is to hit 75% off, which is easy to do with a couple items, but I want to do it on a large grocery shop.

This list of "competitors" from Publix could be chapter on "What Not To Do" in a marketing textbook. Publix considers The Fresh Market a competitor, but not Whole Foods Market? What planet is Publix on? Walmart isn't a competitor, just the Neighborhood markets? Please!!! I shop at Walmart every Friday, then drive across the street and shop at Publix -- I always spend more at Walmart. Perhaps Publix wouldn't make these mistakes if it really understood how people buy food. Marketing genius Phil Kotler once said: "If someone is selling the same product as you, he is a competitor, whether you want to believe so or not." CVS sells cereal, soda, beer, wine, and all sorts of other products sold by Publix. All of the stores listed by Publix are competitors. It's just that Publix isn't smart enough to realize this fact of life.

Yeah, just got back from Publix in Cooper City and they DO NOT accept CVS coupons. I even mentioned the article in the paper from two Sundays ago. Stinks as I have a CVS coupon good for $20 off $100. You can imagine how badly I was hoping they'd accept it. Alas, no.

I'm a member of the customer service staff at a Publix in FL. According to my store policy, we accept coupons from competitors such as Winn-Dixie, Target, U-Save, Albertsons, etc. We do not consider places such as Walgreens, CVS, Petsmart, etc. competitors. We also do not take coupons from BJ's and Costco seeing as how their items are sold in larger quantities. It is definitely helpful if you give the cashiers the coupons first. Hope this helps :)

Does publix accep offers too? such as the 2x1 winn dixies or the 10 for 10 from albertons?

I went to Publix with a 2/5.00 coupon from another store and they wouldn't honor it. Even though it clearly said "coupon," the manager on duty (with whom I've had trouble before) said this policy was called "price matching." I've been using these coupons for 6 weeks, incident free, but now it's against the policy? I'm confused.
