Printable coupon: $1.50 off Starbucks coffee in your grocery store
I don't know about you...but coffee just doesn't taste the same when I make it at home. My theory is that my little plastic Braun drip coffee maker just can't get hot enough.
There just isn't enough time in the day...so I suffer through my own homemade coffee, lukewarm as it is. Can I say this in a Starbucks post...I've been buying the 4 bag special for $19.99 at Dunkin Donuts. (That's okay, this is a shopping blog, not a Starbucks ad!)
You can save $1.50 on Starbucks brand by using this printable coupon. Coupon is not good in a Starbucks, just in your grocery store.
Have you found any secrets to making great coffee at home?

no, I don't have any great coffee making tips, except use good coffee ...
Last time I was at Publix, I saw peelie coupons for $1.00 off Nabisco cookies (gosh, I hope that's right, early in the morning) ... if that's so, you can pick up the buy one get one free chip ahoys and use the $1.50 off coffee & $1 off cookies ...woohoo!`

I buy Dunkin Donuts 4 bag special too. I finally bought a french press (about 30.00 in Bed Bath) and although its a bit of work its worth it, because the coffee is AWESOME! Also I make it stronger, press is a 4 cup I add enough coffee for 5 or 6 :) Happy Brewing :)

Agree that the French press is worth it. Also picked up an electric water boiler ($30 Target). Even the morning bleary -eyed can zap the water, pour into the press, and enjoy great coffee.

I use to buy starbucks at the store now I make it at home. It taste just like my peppermint mocha. I didn't buy a expensive expresso machine, just a simple one from Walmart. The trick 1)Buy the syrup from starbucks..about $7 2)Buy from ebay the cup with the temp gauge on it. It will make sure your milk reaches the right temp with foam and 3)Buy from ebay the "shot" glasses of starbucks..I have $aved myself TONS of money..I figure the syrup alone is worth about 30-50 cups of ocffee...3 squirts for a medium coffee...

I tried to use some of these printable coupons at the Publix off of Hidden Valley and Federal in Boca a couple of weeks ago, and the checkout clerk said Publix doesn't accept internet coupons...Since when???

We run into that at Target a lot, but this is the first time folks have complained about Publix. You probably got in a grumpy clerk's line. Avoid that one next time!!

They said that too at my Publix in Davie...when I tried to use the ocean spray coupon a few weeks ago. However I have gone back every week since and they have accepted the coupons. I think they just say that when they have a hard time scanning the coupon.( At least that's my theory)

the very best one in the area, in my experience - is at clint moore & 441, but that may be a hike for you....

Sue- That Ocean Spray printable coupon does give me a problem. It's Canadian, and looks sort of odd, they really inspect it when I present it. I find that if I use only 2 at a time, it's better. The last one I had expired on the 22nd, I'll have to see if it's renewed. Even though it's a hassle to use, I love that coupon. You can print more than two at a time and it's great with BOGOs.

Ok, I just feel the need to say it again: please, please, please do not make copies of the good internet coupons you find ... I am so afraid that Publix will stop taking them...there was a lady last week who had copies ... you could tell by the print quality ... she was upset that they said no and yet, mine went ok ...

I am also unable to find the Starbucks coupon. Target has a great deal this week on the coffee. Buy 3 at 7.00 and get a 5.00 Target gift card. In addition I was hoping to use the $1.50 coupon but can't find it.

Hello, just wanted to reply to your question about brewing coffee. Coffee is 98% water, and as such, any impurities in your water are going to effect the flavor of your coffee. Starbucks uses double purifiers and filters to get their water as clean and pure as possible, leaving you with a taste that's hard to replicate at home. The house I'm in now has double filtered tap water, so I just use that, but before moving here I would buy vapor distilled or pure spring water and use that for my brewing. The trick is too keep the water in the fridge or if you're using the tap get it as cold as possible. Cold water actually DOES effect your coffee, believe it or not. Another thing is the pot you're brewing in. If you have one of those little glass pots that sits on a burner, it's going to burn your coffee. You can go out and buy a thermal insulated pot that is burner free, or, I found that if you put a damp/lightly wet paper towel over the burner it will reduce the burnt, bitter taste you get. Make sure you don't forget about it though. I would recommend the thermal pot if you don't mind spending a little bit of extra money because it keeps your coffee hot longer and helps it retain it's flavor without scorching it. http://www.cuisinart.com/products/coffee_bar/dgb-650bc.html is similar to the pot I use, only mine doesn't grind the beans. You can find similar pots cheaper at walmart or target. Another key is your beans. A darker bean means it has been roasted longer and has a fuller, richer flavor, while a lighter bean means that it's had a shorter roasting period, which doesn't allow the full flavor of the bean to develop. Store your beans in the freezer as well and grind them just before brewing, unless you buy pre-ground, which is fine too. NEVER store them in the fridge, this lets moisture get into your beans, ruining the flavor. Once your coffee has been opened it's natural oils and flavors start to degrade, so you want to use it up within 2 weeks, give or take. The syrups that they sell at starbucks are ok too, but for a rich flavor without all the added preservatives and calories I would suggest buying extracts. A couple teaspoons of vanilla or hazelnut extract added to hot cream or milk makes for a great homemade coffee or late. For making espresso you want to make sure the coffee is ground very, very fine. Even if your coffee is pre-ground, throw it in a grinder and make it even finer for espresso. Again, use the purest water you can get your hands on. You want your espresso maker to get very hot or you end up with a muddy mess. http://www.fantes.com/espresso-stovetop.html is what I use, it's a fantastic espresso maker. For your cream/milk you can just heat it on the stove top, stirring continuously with a whisk until it gets slightly foamy on top. Add a couple of teaspoons of your preferred natural extract and voila, tasty, homemade late, free of artificial sweeteners and preservatives. Sweeten to taste with some raw sugar or something similar and you're done. It seems like a whole lot of work but the entire process only takes about 8-10 minutes from grind to pour, and it's definitely time well spent if you're a coffee lover. Hope that helps. Ciao!
