Tips for yard sales - for buyers and sellers
Steven, my favorite 7 year old, and I like go to the library or the park when we hang out, but on Saturday mornings we go to yard sales. I let him ask how much, sellers can't resist a 7 year old yard sale junkie. He's gotten some of his favorite toys, books and movies for under $1.
I used to start at the crack of dawn, the dreaded lurker, while sellers are still setting up. That was when I was living on a teacher's salary and trying to set up a household. I've relaxed now, but still enjoy the treasure hunt. I'm sure I miss the best stuff, but I get some really great deals when folks are hot and tired and ready to clean up. Maybe I'll wind up on Antiques Roadshow with that long lost Renoir, who knows? What cool stuff have you found at yard sales?
I still find the best yard sale ads in the Sun Sentinel, not because I work here, but just because I like that they are organized by location, and I can carry the page with me. If the streets have names I mapquest the night before. I also check craigslist. Read some tips for yard sale buyers and sellers, both, at the Nesting Place.
