Coupons in Advance: Over $750 in coupon savings in Sunday's Sun Sentinel 11/01/09

Sunday's going to be a big day for 'couponers.' There are three inserts: Smart Source, Red Plum and the P&GbrandSAVER. There's also a Publix Fall Savings insert...good coupons inside but they expire soon, 11/6. We've got to find those stackable scenarios now!! (Stacking coupons means using a Publix AND a manufacturer's coupon on the same item for added savings.)

For our regular visitors, you know to label your inserts with the date, and file them away to wait for a good sale. New coupon shoppers will be anxious to use them, but then you will be sorry next week when the item is BOGO (buy-one-get-one-free) and you can use two coupons.

For instance, lets say your favorite cereal is $4 a box. If you use a $1 off coupon now, you get the cereal for $3. But if you wait until the cereal is BOGO, and use two $1 coupons, then you get two boxes for $1 each. This is why we recommend getting at least two papers, well, two sets of coupons.

Adam Lambert's debut album cover art revealed

adam.jpgI'm an American Idol junkie, and Adam Lambert was one of my favorite contestants ever. I could watch his performances over and over, and did, thanks to Tivo. Not only was he a good singer, but what a showman, and too charming...that smile...swoon. :)

It must be the teacher/mother in me. I literally had tears in my eyes watching grumpy Simon give him a standing cool to see these talented young folks realizing their dreams.

His long awaited album's scheduled release is late November, but they just disclosed the cover art. Can you say controversial?

What do you think? Like it? And...the big question...are you going to buy his album? Kris Allen's will be released the week before...who's buying? --Super Saver Kathy

FREE, better yet, make money buying Quaker Oats

Oatmeal-Quick-Thumbnail_sflb.jpgWe try to save you money on groceries, but how about making money? Better yet! This is one of those complicated Walgreens deals, so pay attention!

Quaker 1-Minute Oats, 18 oz are Buy One, Get One Free this week with the coupon in the Walgreens weekly ad, found at the entrance to the store. Plus, if you spend $10 on Quaker products, you'll get a $5 Register Rewards.

Here's how you do it: Have them ring 4 cartons of Quaker 1 Minute Oats at $3.19 each, make sure the initial total is over $10, no coupons at first. Then hand them the Walgreens BOGO in-ad coupon, which should take off the price of two oatmeals. Then use 2 $1.25/2 coupons from the 8/30 RedPlum insert from your file of Sunday inserts. You spend $3.88 plus tax out of pocket, and get your $5 Register Rewards to spend at Walgreens next trip.

Sometimes there's a problem at Walgreens if you use more coupons than items, so I always get an 'insurance' item that doesn't take coupons, such as milk, or another sale item. This week, 12-pk sodas are 4 for $10, so it's a good time to stock up if you drink Coca-Cola products, A&W, Canadra Dry etc.

Coupons in Advance: Over $225 in coupons for Sunday October 25th

coupons1.JPGHave a look at this list to decide how many Sunday papers you're going to get this week. Get creative getting extra papers. some of you find them in recyclers, some get them from relatives or neighbors, some at the dollar store. How do you get extra coupons?

I did so well last week...I think we all did. I stockpiled Marie Callender's Al-Dente Meals to take to work for lunch, BOGO with $1 off 2 coupons, and got 4 free 'Snuggles.' The money I saved on these two items alone would have paid for 8 papers. Now the rest is gravy!!

We learned a valuable lesson this week, don't clip familiar names and toss your leftover coupons, then you'll be disappointed when an item is free and you threw the coupons away. Strategic shoppers shouldn't be brand loyal. You can clip the ones you know you'll use, but file the rest away by date, just in case.

Sunday, there's a coupon for $1 off Sara Lee (cheesecake) bites. Sounds like a good idea for those of us that just want a small taste of something sweet. Has anybody tried them? Are they worth the calories? Also $1 off Kiwi shoeshine products. Have you checked your supply, might need refreshing?

Lots here to see the list. Keep in mind these coupon inserts vary from paper to paper. This list is specific to the Sun Sentinel.

Leather mini for South Florida's winter

It gets nippy here from time to time... so bring out that leather! But it's also South Florida, so a mini skirt is still appropriate attire.

I discovered this great find at Bebe: A suede leather mini skirt for $39.99. The skirt's zipper runs asymmetrical across for a nice flair. The lined mini comes in dark plum (the color I bought), fuschia, gray and mustard.

I'm a Club Bebe member who gets points for every purchase made. So I had a $10 coupon in my pocket that brought the leather skirt's price down to $29.99. No doubt a hot deal.

Printable coupon for cheap Starbucks Frappucino

Coupons in Advance: Preview over $180 in coupons in Sunday's 10/18 Sun Sentinel

Celebrate those curves and enter model search contest!

So, there's French shoe designer Christian Louboutin who criticized Barbie this week for her cankles (the term used for fat ankles). Louboutin, who is designing shoes for the famed doll, said his comment may have been lost in translation.

Then there's Filippa Hamilton, who at 5'10" and 120-lb., said she was fired from Ralph Lauren because she was overweight. Touched-up photos of the 23-year-old's emaciated looking body showing distorted proportions surfaced and were used in a department store in Japan. Her head and hips appeared the same width.

She told the New York Daily News this week: "They fired me because they said I was overweight and I couldn't fit in their clothes anymore," she said. "I think they owe American women an apology, a big apology. I'm very proud of what I look like, and I think a role model should look healthy."

Here are pictures of a healthy-looking Hamilton, and the one used in Japan.

In light of the unfortunate message women are sent to slim down to unhealthy pint sizes, it's time to celebrate curves!

Catherine stores are currently holding a contest in search of a new face for its upcoming campaign. Wanted: plus-sized girls!

It's conducting a real women model search with a prize that includes a two-year modeling contract. Deadline's Nov. 30. To enter the contest click here. Good luck!

Find OPI nail polish at Trade Secrets

Manicures are costly so I try to stretch them out over a couple weeks, with a touch-up. But you need the same color for that. Many salons use OPI nail polish. This weekend, I found a treasure trove of OPI at Trade Secrets at Boynton Beach Mall. Much to my delight, they had one of my favorite colors, Bastille My Heart, a dark red with a hint of purple.

Better yet, buy the polish first ($8.50 at Trade Secret) and take it to your salon. Even cheaper -- do it yourself, but my hand is just not that steady!

Intergalactic Bead Show in Pompano October 17-18th

If you have time to string your own beads, and make jewelry, then (I'm seriously jealous) then you will probably be going to the Intergalactic Bead Show in Pompano this weekend.

Love designer knock-offs?

They line up like soldiers with laminated sheets showing pictures of the latest Coach, Prada and Louis Vuitton designer handbags.

And they whisper the popular designer names as you stroll on by Chinatown's famed Canal Street in New York City. In fact, sellers' pitches come at rapid fire speed and are echoed dozens of times in a span of a block or two. Sometimes they take you into backrooms for the goods.

Women can't help but check out those famous knock-offs. I know I can't. In fact I took home three "designer" purses from my last trip there.

Last week, Coach sued Target for carrying a fake version of its logo-print handbag and now seeks $1 million in compensation. Oops!

Here's a photo of me during the haggling frenzy that ensued during my handbag hunt. It was all a blur, I swear.

Do you have any great steals you found, real good looking fakes or just any local outlets where you find great knock-offs? Do share!

New Ross store opens in Deerfield

You would have thought everything was 90 percent off. No such luck, but great prices as always at Ross Dress for Less' new store at Hillsboro Boulevard and Powerline Road in Deerfield Beach.

The parking lot was packed today and shoppers coming out with two or three bags.

I found a few items of interest such as August Silk matching sleeveless sweater and cardigan for $12.99 and $19.99 respectively. They had several color choices including black, red, orange and purple, but mostly large or extra-large sizes.

The store is bright and large, with racks where you can actually look at the clothing. It's not all crammed in. Either wall is filled with shoes -- women's on one and men's on the other.

The merchandise seemed a mix of new and stuff I've seen in other stores, but that's always the case with discount stores. You have to look for the treasure. So happy hunting. -- Marcia "Bargain Hunter" Pounds

Pucker that pout in lieu of lip plumpers

I was perusing the cosmetics section at Target and came across lip plumpers from a few different brands. Ever the skeptic, I thought I'd be tossing my money on lip gloss that claimed to puff up a pretty pout some. I walked away curious still.

Enter Sephora, where scores of makeup abound and you can actually experiment with the products... and I got suckered in. I always do there.

But I didn't mind. I tried the Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips in Charity, a diamond cherry red color that I adored. Maybe my lips did appear more voluminous, I thought, as they tingled from the product.

But it was probably the beautifully bolder color I wasn't used to wearing that probably made my pucker pop. Either way, I was happy with the color and didn't mind much that Angelina Jolie lips weren't in order. But that's probably because I didn't have my heart set on it.

Interested in the $18 Buxom lip plumper? Click here. I'd certainly buy it again. And it's for a good cause: Every purchase of Bare Escentuals' limited-edition Charity Buxom pout plumper helps support Bare Escentuals' donation to the American Heart Association.

Have you tried any other lip plumpers and have they worked for you?

Get your hands on some fingerless gloves

So, I got my first pair of fingerless gloves for practical reasons and on sale at Nordstrom for no more than $3 (at an after Christmas sale) last year.

I've got thin blood and it gets cold in the office while I type crime stories and shopping blogs. I need warmth and a glove that allows my fingers to fly on the keyboard.

But, now, the reason is anything but practical. These leather fingerless gloves by Bebe on the left just look chic and edgy with a crystal at the clasp for a softer, feminine flair. They're $39, but they're a cool and fun accessory as we slowly meander into the fall and winter seasons. The ones shown here are in hot pink, but the black pair is oh, so classic.

I'm posting images of a few other ones that could really kick up an outfit a few notches.

The coral elbow length ones I'm donning here (from H&M in NYC) were no more than $6 and warm and fuzzy. They're more cute, less chic.

If you're interested in getting your hands on, and into, a pair of those Bebe gloves, check them out here.

Fall foot fashions beckon despite record South Florida heat

Yes, agreed South Florida is an anomaly when it comes to seasons, but we can't help but fall in love with fall... and its fashions.

While sandals might be the more practical footwear today, I couldn't help but fall for some boots and other closed-toe beauties from Aerosoles while I was in New York late last month.

There's just one Aerosoles store in the area, in Boca Raton's Mizner Park. But here's a glimpse of what you can also find online- and what caught my eye.

The rich chocolate brown suede boots on the left look comfortable enough for you to prance around town all day. The buckled ankle strap gives it just enough flair. Price tag: $74.25, on sale.

And I fell hard for these plum suede and leather trimmed shoes with tasseled laces on the right. Now, this is a shoe I tried on that is incredibly comfortable. You're walking on clouds. I'm still thinking about these. They will run you $89.

If you're like me, set on getting a pair of eggplant toned shoes this season (cause plum seems to be all the rage), here's a cheaper and South Florida appropriate alternative. Suede heeled sandals for $59.99.

Happy shopping, and to check out more of Aerosole's online sales go here.

BJs membership deal comes with coupons

BJs%20logo.gifWe were a Costco family. Until yesterday.

We live very close to a BJs and I was suckered in by the free trial membership. I went in with no intention of actually joining, but a friend told me they sell Pampers at BJs, a brand Costco doesn't carry. As the mother of two kids under two, that's a major drawback.

Anyway, I was going to go buy some Pampers and be done with it. But after a brief sales pitch by the woman in customer service, I was sold. For $45 I got a 14-month membership (with a money back guarantee if I don't like it) plus a $10 credit, lowering the membership fee to $35. Pampers.jpg

The woman handed me a plethora of coupons, $5 off Pampers, $3 off Bounty paper towels and on and on.

Here's the bonus: BJs also accepts vendor coupons, something this mother of two babies has plenty of! An hour and $228 later, I was out the door. My total coupon savings? $39.50, exactly the price of a case of Pampers! -- Missy Diaz

You get two items for the price of one, and $1 off the one, to boot.

We're thinking of doing a seminar to teach our readers how to maximize coupon shopping. Let us hear from you if you would be interested. Leave a comment if you would come. And is daytime or evening better for you?

Carry a fashionable eco-friendly bag

So you've made the eco-friendly move from paper and plastic to a cloth bag. But you're not thrilled with advertising "Publix" or "Whole Foods" as you cart your groceries around town.

Buy a more fashionable bag for groceries, books or gym gear -- the Saxsy Stuff bag. The bags offer a wide bottom, collapsible gusset design allowing the bags to expand, carrying up to 30 lbs.

Made with 100% cotton fabrics, Saxsy Stuff bags collections include: Fall Saxs, City Saxs, Flower Saxs, Bright Saxs and Fruit Saxs. The company also makes Stuff Saxs to store Saxsy Stuff Bags when they're not being used.

Stephanie Heinecken of Old Snowmass, Colo., came up with the idea of offering hip and stylish reusable grocery bags last year. Now they're offered online at Saxsy Stuff Bags -- Marcia "Bargain Hunter" Pounds
