Coupons in Advance: Preview coupons in Sunday's Sun Sentinel 5/2/2010

coupons1.JPGYou will be pleasantly surprised this weekend, with a Smart Source, a Red Plum and a P&GbrandSAVER in Sunday's Sun Sentinel.

I feel 10 pounds coming on....how long has it been since there was a $1 Starbucks Frappucino coupon? Other than the few printables, we haven't had one of those in awhile. Remember when Walgreens had them for $1.25, so with the coupon you got the regularly $1.99 yummy drink for a quarter? Let's hope for another sale like that one.

Lots of Pet food coupons this week too. Oh, listen to this one, $1 off Nestle Drumstick Lil Drums! Are the kids going to love those? Adults too, I'll bet.

I know I told you last week I visited my brother and his wife who are remodeling a house in Chattanooga, what a nice town. Anyway, I bring that up because they are doing an organic rendition of the South Beach diet, and replaced all their butter with Olivio. (Brother Bob has lost 30 pounds on this diet, way to go!) Maybe I'll send them some of this week's .55 off Olivio coupons as a thank you for their hospitality.

Look for sales on Garnier Fructis in the coming weeks and be sure to post what you find, there are generous $1+ coupons for a variety of their hair products.

Red Plum has a $7 off Honeybaked bone-in Half Ham just in time for Mother's Day. Or if you want to really spoil Mom, use the other coupon for a $39.99 Boneless Ham dinner for 6 coupon so she doesn't have to fuss in the kitchen on her special day.

This is a good week for coupons, I recommend figuring out a way to get at least two sets of inserts to take advantage of those BOGO deals. Buy two papers, rummage the recyclers, hit up the neighbors, but get two. Click here to preview the list.

Huggies diaper deal at Target this week

All day everyday I get emails from every couponing website out there. You may call this spam, but I call it savings. Thanks to dealseekingmom for telling us about the following diaper deal at Target.

"Jumbo Packs of Huggies are on sale for $8.99 at Target this week. You'll also get a $5 gift card at checkout when you buy three packages. Combined with the $1.50 coupons in the 4/18 SmartSource, you'll get a great deal on Huggies!"

Sun Sentinel readers, don't waste your time looking for these Huggies coupons on 4/18, we didn't have them, but you can pick them up for a minimal service charge on eBay. Or check your printables stash, there was one for $2 off on coupons.com recently.

Not the best diaper deal I've seen, certainly, but one I found current this week. Since I have three toddler grandchildren, I am all ears for better deals. Please post in the comments below.

Chemical-free cleaning: Eco-Me Kits are a great holistic way to take care of your family, pets, home and body without the nasty chemicals. Get 'em at at CVS.com through May 9 and get 20 percent off on all beauty purchases.

Free exterior paint for Broward, Palm Beach county residents

paint.jpg

Seeing as it's Earth Day on Thursday, here's how recycling can pay off: Broward and Palm Beach county residents can get free exterior house paint.

Broward County residents and non-profit organizations can get free high-quality exterior paint through the county’s “Paint it Broward” recycling program. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection program offers residents up to 20 gallons of the re-blended latex paint, which comes in beige, gray, turquoise or terra cotta colors. The paint comes in five-gallon buckets.
This is a great way to save some serious dollars since five-gallon buckets of paint can cost $90 each at the local home improvement store.

Collected through the paint recycling program, Broward County offers the free paint to 26 municipalities whose public works departments in turn distribute paint to residents. Cities offering the paint include Fort Lauderdale, Davie, Coral Springs, Oakland Park, Plantation, Sunrise, Pembroke Pines, Pompano and Deerfield Beach.
Click here for a list of participating cities and phone number to get the paint.

Broward County recycles and distributes an average of 70,000 gallons of latex paint per year to residents, according to the county’s website.

Broward residents can drop off unwanted paint and other hazardous chemicals and goods at two permanent Hazardous Waste Disposal drop-off locations: 2780 N. Powerline Road, Pompano Beach and at 5601 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd, West Park.

Palm Beach County also offers free paint to residents in need through its Solid Waste Authority Recycled Paint Donation Program. Offered in 10 colors (click here to see color swatches) such as beige, off-white, brown, blue and yellow, the Palm Beach County goes a step further and also offers volunteer painters in a program called Paint Your Heart Out. Residents must fill out an application for the paint. The SWA office then calculates the amount needed based on square footage. It typically offers 10 gallons of paint for walls and two gallons for trim for a 1,000-square-foot home, said Joanna Aiken, community services coordinator for the Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority. For information on the program, call 561-697-2700, ext. 4701; or click here.

Also, Palm Beach residents can drop off hazardous waste and paint Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon at the South County Transfer Station,1901 SW 4th Ave., Delray Beach and at the Central County Transfer Station, 1810 Lantana Road, Lantana and at the West Palm Beach Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, 6161 N. Jog Road, West Palm Beach. Click here for locations and times.

Save big at huge kids' consignment sale in Coral Springs

990102680_012_0001.jpgAttention thrifty-minded moms!

Get ready to score some serious bargains on cribs, nursery gear, baby equipment, clothes, books, toys, and more at a massive consignment sale being held Coral Springs on Friday and Saturday.

The sale, put on by the traveling children’s and maternity consignment franchise called Just Between Friends, allows you to sell your stuff or shop for stuff and save. Or both! It’s too late to sell items at this event (darn!), but the organization will be back in the fall if you’re interested in selling your goods. You can learn more about the concept and shop till you drop from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Coral Springs Gymnasium at 2501 Coral Springs Drive.

Here’s how JBF events generally work: If you want to sell your stuff, bring new or gently-used kids and/or maternity wear to the selling venue set up by JBF. You set your own prices, tag your wares, drop them off at the sale site and Just Between Friends does the rest. You earn money (just like at a regular consigment store) on unwanted stuff you had lying around the house and/or you can shop for things you need for your family at super cheap prices. It’s a fantastic idea that helps families make and save bucks in these tough times.

Here’s a link to the sale.

Has anyone out there ever heard of Just Between Friends sales? We'd love to hear what you thought (and bought)!

Foursquare Day: Check-in for savings

If it’s April 16, or rather 4/16 - It’s FourSquare Day, or rather 4sqday.

Bring your phone to this gig. Actually, it’s essential you bring it – it’s your invitation to participate in Foursquare Day, the next big social media party.

Local businesses, mostly eateries and bars, will cash in on the next personal global positioning trend , 4sqday, or Four Square Day.

initiated by a cell phone application of the same name, it allows people to communicate through texts mapping, on where to meet or dine –at a store, a mall, restaurant or a bar – with an event tie-in or just to hang with friends. And like a moving target – the group can move en-mass or simply co-mingle and move about to other venues. People who visit venues repeatedly and more than others in t heir group get designated as “mayors”

However you write it, it spells a trend in face-to-face gatherings. Last year’s Foursquare drew fewer than a million participants. But with people using Twitter and Facebook to detail their every move and activity, 4sqday is expected to grow in venue and consumer participation.

It’s kind of like good-old-fashioned bar-hopping. Except now, the businesses aren’t just passively standing by. They can actively promote their products and services though the same application consumers are using to gather. They can broadcast their 2-4-1 drink deals, freebies or discounts.

Read this article about how Nathan Bonilla-Warford, a Tampa optometrist who is geeky over numbers, came up with the idea of designating 4/16 as 4sqday.

Check out real-time activity and local participating businesses by searching @4sqday #4sqday #4sqdaymiami or #4sqdaysfl on Twitter.com.

Normally, you can spend it on most anything in the store, but if you use it toward more of the same product, you won't get another Register Reward. So when we say rolling Reward, it means you can turn around and buy more Biore with it, and still get another RR.

Gap%20shirt.jpgToday is the last day to get 25% off online on sale items at Gap.com.

This can be a good opportunity to stock up on everyday T-shirts and other casual wear to freshen your wardrobe this spring and summer.

This classic stretchy T is available for only $7.50 in navy with the 25% discount (code is GAPSALE25 at checkout). But add on the $7 in shipping and you've paid double for it. $1 coupon for Scotch Brite sponges: Tell us where they are free!

Thanks to Money Saving Mom for the heads up on the Scotch Brite $1 off coupon. It's a PDF so you can print multiples, we love those kind of coupons, don't we?

If you are new to couponing, when you get deal like this, you buy enough sponges to last you until the next good deal. This is a good time to stock up, so you don't wind up paying straight retail for a new sponge after the kids wash the car with your pot scrubber.

Click here to print, on the Money Saving Mom post.

Single sponges are often less than a dollar at stores. Let us know where you find freebies, please!

Rebates are a just click away

ebates.jpgIf you make a lot of online purchases, you should check out the cash-back online website EBates.com.

The free service rebates a percentage of your purchases at more than 1,200 online stores and collects your savings into an account and then sends you a "Big Fat Check" in the mail. It's super convenient and easy. After using the site for several purchases, I got a check for $52.75 for buying things I was going to buy anyway.

Here's how it works: Register with an e-mail address, browse the 1,200 online retailers (like iTunes, Orbits, Sears, Barnes & Noble, Target, QVC). When you make a purchase, a percentage of it is posted into your EBates account after you pay for the item. After the money collects, you decided when to request a check. The site also offers deals of the day and coupons and sometimes can be combined with the rebate offered.

I recently was interested in buying an 80-hour iPhone battery for $79.95 from Brookstone.com. First, I logged into EBates, clicked on Brookstone, made the buy and received 6 percent cash back on the purchase. $4.79 was deposited into my account. Plus shipping was free.

There are more ways to get bucks, too. If you refer friends, Ebates.com gives you and your friends $5. There also are “Featured Coupons.” Today, Shoes.com offers 15 percent of your entire order and 8 percent cash back on your purchase. (As if I needed a reason to buy more shoes!)

Swoozie's closeout sale: 10-30% off

I always liked Swoozie's, the upscale stationary and party store in Boca Raton, but I also wondered how it stayed in business.

Mystery solved: the store's closing, according to sale signs in its windows. So far the biggest savings is on Christmas cards and stationery: 50% off. Other items range from 10% off cards to 30 percent off party-themed items -- gotta a family member's birthday coming up?

It's a good place, too, to pick up anything initialed: "M" cards, for moi, for example.

Swoozie's is in the shopping center on Glades Road across from Florida Atlantic University. There's also a Swoozie's at Downtown at the Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens.

Free XBox 360 "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2"

Free Xbox 360 -- bet that got your attention.

Here's how to get it: Join SwapTree.com. It's a cool new way to save bucks on the latest movies, books, music and video games.

This unique website takes your used stuff and matches it with something you want for the price of shipping, a cost of $2.79 (the site provides the shipping label). It's sort of like e-bay without the bidding. Best part: No PayPal!

Here's how it works: First, take "8 seconds to join. Next you add items your "have list" by inputting ISNB and UPC codes on the back of your unwanted books, DVDs, video games and CDs.

Once you create your "have list" (you must list the condition of the item) you can create your "want list" and the site sets up a trade for something specific you'd like to have or it lets you browse a list of thousands of titles you can choose to receive in exchange. Swaptree recommends you put at least 10 items on each list.

I recently offered to trade the popular XBox 360 title "Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2." In return, I was offered "COD 4: Modern Warfare" or "Halo 3: ODST" or a choice of 137,638 other items. After I entered the "COD" game, the site let me know what I entered was valuable: "This is a high value item. To be fair, you will only be offered trades where you are receiving a high value item in return." A new game lists for $59.99.

This is a great way to keep up with the latest titles for pocket change. Plus if you use your Facebook and e-mail address books to tell your friends about SwapTree, the site offers free shipping in return.

Some of the titles offered in books: "Push" by Sapphire and, Harlan Coben's "Caught", DVD films "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" and "The Blind Side" as well as CDs like Taylor Swift's "Fearless" and Owl City's "Ocean Eyes."

See you around at the virtual swap meet. -- Doreen Christensen
