Here’s a great way to wear hot summer fragrances, save some cash and be TSA-ready all at once. (The rules say 3.4 ounce, or 100 ml or smaller containers can go on planes.) Get the latest scents in travel-friendly rollerball applicators, pots of solid perfume and purse-size sprays. The best part? Most cost about $10 and you can throw them in your bag, breeze through security and land smelling like a rose.
Here are our top picks:
Life Is Pink Rollerball Fragrances, $10 , from Victoria’s Secre have real personality, with cute little charms and snappy names: Wish Pink, Live Pink and Hope Pink. We’re partial to Live’s bright and bold blend of passion fruit and raspberry nectar. Breaking news! A rep told the company is launching a fourth scent, Shine Pink, in July so stay tuned.
Try all-natural Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics’ Vanillary Solid Perfume, $7.95, packaged in an awesome recycled aluminum tin about the size of a half-dollar. We like the light vanilla-jasmine scent, but the citrus notes in Olive Branch have us swooning too. There are seven scents all mixed into a base of nourishing jojoba oil and organic cocoa butter in .35-ounce pots.
Carry your favorite scent wherever you go with Sephora’s Refillable Rollerball. This $10 on-the-go metal dispenser comes with a tiny funnel that you use to pour in the fragrance. (Or how about the gorgeous pink Sephora Collection Diamond Handbag Atomizer on sale for $6).
Lavanila’s Healthy Roller Ball Fragrances, $19, will rub you the right way with yummy vanilla-based summer scents and 100 percent natural ingredients. That means they’re free of sulfates, parabens and a whole bunch of other nasty stuff. Best part: They’re infused with so many essential vitamins (C, E, B1, B2 and B6), minerals and amino acids that you might want to drink them. Seriously, they’re designed to nourish and condition your skin — and make you smell great. We like Vanilla Coconut, but Pure Vanilla and Vanilla Grapefruit are nice too.
Spritz on some spicy fabulosity with Coty’s new Baby Phat Dare Me by Kimora Lee Simmons. It comes in a .25-ounce metal spray bottle for $9.99 that we dare any baggage handler to try to destroy. If you’re heading to the shore, try Coty’s beachy Nautica My Voyage. Get them at drugstores.
Or, save even more and make a travel-ready scent yourself. Here's how:
Recipe: Make-It-Yourself Solid Perfume
Make your own travel-ready scent with just a few ingredients from your kitchen. A clean eye-cream jar or pretty pill box works well as a container.
1 small container with tight-fitting lid
1 tablespoon grated unscented beeswax
1 tablespoon jojoba oil or vitamin E oil (available at health stores)
10-15 drops of your favorite perfume or essential oils
Directions: In a small glass bowl, microwave ingredients in 30-second increments until melted, stirring with a craft stick. Let cool slightly and pour into container and let it cool before using.
