88 cent Crunchwrap Supreme at Taco Bell (was $2.50)

crunchwrap_supreme.png

Taco Bell is offering an 88 cent Crunchwrap Supreme through Saturday, March 5. Limit two per person.

The Crunchwrap promotional deal puts the fast-food chain's seasoned beef front and center by saying "Our Seasoned Beef is made with 88% premium beef and 12% signature recipe."

Taco Bell continues to reassure customers about its meat mixture after the chain was accused of false-advertising in a recent lawsuit over how it labels its beef mixture. The promotional page also has a button that offers to give the "Full Story" on its seasoned beef quality.

The chain offered coupons free tacos to fans on Facebook in early February.

JC Penney adds new designer lines

JC Penney's stores in South Florida are now featuring two new designer lines: Barcelona-based MNG from Mango and an exclusive shoe line, Call It Spring, from The ALDO Group.

I'm not surprised: Today at lunch I spied a woman wearing a flattering top and complimented her on it: "It's from JC Penney's," she told me.

Now, the department store is adding these new designer lines, and they are as welcome as spring. I spotted this cute, very South Florida, dress by MNG from Mango on its website for $87. And these Call It Spring wedges, for $39, would go nicely with the dress.

Browse the new collections at JC Penney.

'Project Runway' winner designs for INC at Macy's

IRENA_FOR_INC_2011_Dres%20%2499%20Shoe%20%2498.jpgSpring has sprung at Macy's with designs for INC International Concepts by Irina Shabayeva, "Project Runway’s" Season Six winner.

Shabayeva, who illustrated her mastery of fit and proportion on the hit Lifetime reality show, worked with INC on a new concept in sportswear that evolves out of movement and dance.

The line includes form-fitting dresses and separates, notably tops, skirts, jackets and denim. To finish the look, Irina for INC includes dance inspired footwear that ranges from Ponte slipper platforms and ribbon tied espadrilles.

She incorporates bold color blocking on shifts, dresses, and tunics. Vibrant jersey tops and skirts are paired with army anoraks; black and white body con dresses are embellished with exposed zippers, while flirty lace confectionary designs are embellished with jeweled beading.

The collection is now in 50 Macy’s stores including Town Center at Boca Raton. Aventura Mall, Dadeland Mall and Miami International Mall and on Macys.com.

Tops range in price from $49–$99, pants & denim range from $79–$129, skirts from $89–$119, dresses range from $99–$169 and outerwear from $119–$159. Footwear will be available at $98.

Meet Robonaut 2, NASA's space-flying android

This has nothing to do with shopping, but the cool factor on this was just too difficult to resist. I had to share. I came across this when I was researching the NASA Face in Space program.

The space shuttle Discovery is bringing a special guest to live aboard the International Space Station when it blasts off on its final mission Thursday.

Robonaut 2, aka R2, is a human-looking robot being delivered to give a helping hand (or two) to the crew of the orbiting lab. Think of R2 as sort of a primitive version of Star Trek's Commander Data, minus the legs.

The $2.5 million, 300-pound droid is a head and torso with arms and hands. The steel and aluminum bot is designed to perform dexterous tasks for crew members (I hear he mixes a mean Martian Martini). He's got brains, packed with 38 PowerPC Processors and terrific vision, with five cameras for sound and depth perception, including an infrared in his mouth.

The R2 prototype, a joint project between NASA and General Motors, is being tested to see how well it performs in the weightless space environment. The idea is to develop more sophisticated humanoid robots to help astronauts during spacewalks and other dangerous missions in space and as assistants to workers at GM manufacturing plants on Earth.

This NASA robotic project has so many pop-culture, sci-fi references it's uncanny. The R2's named echos the famed "Star Wars" droid R2D2. He looks a bit like a white Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robot wearing an Iron-Man mask. He's flying aboard Discovery the on-board computer HAL 9000 in "2001: A Space Odyssey" was on the Discovery One spacecraft. (Lucky for the crew, R2 is the strong, silent type. He doesn't talk.)

I wonder if R2 plays chess...

Save up to $8 on gas with new Winn-Dixie fuelperks! reward program

winndixie-fuel-perksblog.jpg

Winn-Dixie stores today introduced a new customer reward program that gives a discount on gas purchased at more than 200 Shell gasoline stations in South Florida. With the program, you could potentially save up to $8 on a 20-gallon fillup.

Winn-Dixie's new fuelperks! program, introduced today at 112 grocery stores in South Florida, offers 5 cents off for every $50 in qualified purchases made when you sign up for a new Customer Reward Card. There is no limit on the amount of discount you can earn on Shell gas. You also get special savings on items in the store with the reward card.

The gas discount is cumulative. The more you spend, the more you earn. If you spend $100, you get 10 cents off, etc. You decide when to redeem the discount. Also, you don't have to spend $50 in one transaction. Purchases are tracked on your receipt and each time the $50 threshold is met, another 5 cents per gallon discount on gas is earned.

In addition, you can earn an additional 40 cent gas discount each week with eight bonus items offered. So, if you buy the eight bonus items (this week's items include Aquafina water and Frito Lay chips) and spend $150 on groceries, you could get a 55 cent per gallon discount on your next fillup.

(You can also earn fuelperks! shopping online at 700 stores like JCPenney, Gap, Best Buy and others.) The Winn-Dixie fuelperks! program was first introduced in Panama City, Jacksonville and Louisiana. Since 2008, Winn-Dixie customers have saved $12 million on gas with the program, according to a press release.

The new card, looks like a credit card and replaces the previous reward card.. Sign up for one at the store or at WinnDixie.com and one will be mailed to you.

Rewards are valid for up to 20 gallons of gasoline and may only be used while fueling a single vehicle. Just swip your card at Shell and the rewards are deducted from the price of gas.

Click here to learn more about the fuelperks! program.

Hot Valentine's Day gifts have South Florida flair

11193_1247587309.jpg

If you’re out and about today looking for a great Valentine’s Day gift, we’re kissing and telling with South Florida flair. Here are a few ideas that will sweeten everyone's day -- and night -- on Feb. 14.

Write a love note and set it in stone with a Signature Brick installed along the Riverwalk on the historic New River in Fort Lauderdale. Pick the spot, craft the message and once engraved and installed (in about a month), take a romantic stroll together to find your message. Bonus: The purchase is tax-deductible.
Available: $50 at GoRiverwalk.com; save $15 with code VAL2011 through Monday, Feb. 14.

When day turns to night, heat things up with Booty Parlor’s three-in-one Skin Honey ($22). This water-based kissable body topping, massage gel and personal lubricant comes in three yummy flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla Chai and Pomegranate. Or, create sparkles and sparks with Lust Me Dust Me Kissable Body Shimmer ($32) in three delish flavors. (Find even more racy play things we can’t mention here at BootyParlor.com.)
Available: GBS The Beauty Stores; find retail locations at GBSBeauty.com

If your BFF doesn’t have a beau, help her celebrate with Lush’s honey-scented It's Raining Men Shower Gel ($24.95) for body and hair, or the Frog Prince Bath Bomb ($4.95), no kissing necessary. Just throw the frog in the tub and he magically turns into a prince.
Available: Lush Handmade Cosmetics at Aventura Mall; LushUSA.com

You know Jimmy Choo for soles, but check out the new scent. You’ll love nuzzling up when she’s wearing the stunning, soft and romantic floral Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum. It has lovely notes of tiger orchid, toffee and patchouli poured into a beautiful amber Murano glass bottle. The collection includes shower gel and lotion.

Give your furry friends an Avanti edible rawhide Valentine’s Day cards ($3.99). Cute options include “Hug Me, Love Me, Kiss Me” and “Be My Furry Valentine.” The plush Electronic Kissing Lips ($2.99) are small but make smooching sounds.

Make love, not war, with Peace, Love & Juicy Couture. It’s one beautiful bouquet in a bottle, with a feminine blend of lemon blossom, wild hyacinth, sweet apple, black currant, jasmine, patchouli and musk. She’ll love the tasseled, gem-laden bottle, too. Add a shower gel, lotion or body cream and score extra points on the love meter.

Pucker up with South Florida-based Tinte Cosmetics’ limited-edition Sealed With a Kiss Flavored Lip Shine Kit. It includes four shines infused with shea butter: Pink Lemonade, Double Bubble, Mynt Kiss and the coconut-vanilla South Beach.

Free Pedometer App for iPhone and Android from Extra Sugarfree Gum

wrigley-extra-pedometer-10-1.jpg

Did you enjoy the guacamole at Sunday's Super Bowl Party? How's that New Year's resolution going anyway?

Well, Wrigley's Extra Sugarfree Gum wants to help get you back on track by offering a free download of the Extra Pedometer App for iPhone and Android along with a coupon for 50 cents off two packs of Extra Dessert Delights Gum. Turn on the app, get moving, have a piece of Key Lime Pie gum instead of the real deal and you could drop a few pounds.

The app keeps track of every step you take and gives a running total by day so you can see how much you move around at the end of the week. I used it for my morning walk on Sunday and logged more than 6,000 steps.

You should aim for 10,000 steps a say, says the non-profit Shape Up America, founded by former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop. With roughly 2,000 steps in a mile, that's about five miles a day, 35 miles a week. The site offers great healthly ideas on eating, exercise and weight loss.
