Winn-Dixie stores today introduced a new customer reward program that gives a discount on gas purchased at more than 200 Shell gasoline stations in South Florida. With the program, you could potentially save up to $8 on a 20-gallon fillup.

Winn-Dixie's new fuelperks! program, introduced today at 112 grocery stores in South Florida, offers 5 cents off for every $50 in qualified purchases made when you sign up for a new Customer Reward Card. There is no limit on the amount of discount you can earn on Shell gas. You also get special savings on items in the store with the reward card.

The gas discount is cumulative. The more you spend, the more you earn. If you spend $100, you get 10 cents off, etc. You decide when to redeem the discount. Also, you don't have to spend $50 in one transaction. Purchases are tracked on your receipt and each time the $50 threshold is met, another 5 cents per gallon discount on gas is earned.

In addition, you can earn an additional 40 cent gas discount each week with eight bonus items offered. So, if you buy the eight bonus items (this week's items include Aquafina water and Frito Lay chips) and spend $150 on groceries, you could get a 55 cent per gallon discount on your next fillup.

(You can also earn fuelperks! shopping online at 700 stores like JCPenney, Gap, Best Buy and others.) The Winn-Dixie fuelperks! program was first introduced in Panama City, Jacksonville and Louisiana. Since 2008, Winn-Dixie customers have saved $12 million on gas with the program, according to a press release.

The new card, looks like a credit card and replaces the previous reward card.. Sign up for one at the store or at WinnDixie.com and one will be mailed to you.

Rewards are valid for up to 20 gallons of gasoline and may only be used while fueling a single vehicle. Just swip your card at Shell and the rewards are deducted from the price of gas.
