Free teacher appreciation events on Saturday

Central and South Florida stores are having free teacher appreciation events on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Staples: 9 a.m. to noon. The first 100 teachers to visit office supply stores will received free a thank you gift bag filled with goodies and coupons.

Office Depot: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. features breakfast, 20 percent instant discounts of up to $20 and a free tote filled with products. You have to be a Star Teacher Member, which is free to join.

Big Lots: Going on all day, teachers save 10 percent off with ID plus get a coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase valid Aug. 12-25.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store: All day Aug. 11 and 12, teachers save 25 percent off purchases. Plus, the Teacher Rewards Discount Card offers 15 percent off every purchase.

More than 90 percent of teachers spend hundreds of dollars of their own money on classroom materials each year, according to the National Education Association.
