Pillows, bedspreads and do-dads

The Linen Store, off Linton Boulevard near Target in Delray Beach, is usually too pricey for me.

But in August, they're having a summer sale. Lots of items including comforters, coverlets, pillow, bath towels and decor are 30 to 50 percent off.

I found something I've been looking for forever -- a toothbrush holder for only $3.99. It's a gold Croscill that holds four brushes. I like it because it doesn't have a container at the bottom. Those tend to become laden with toothpaste and are hard to clean.

I also noticed some cute linen towels embroidered with fanciful scenes of cities: Las Vegas, Rome and Miami.

Nice stuff for a bit less than the rest of the year. Check it out. -- Marcia "Bargain Hunter" Pounds

On safari at Marshall's

I stopped by Marshall's on my lunch hour and was amazed to hear a saleswoman hawking a new selection of purses from Italy. "Don't miss these ladies," she called out to women shoppiing the purse aisle.

You never know what treasures -- or junk -- you might at find Marshall's, and that's the fun of it for the real shopper. Today I found an Anne Klein dress marked down to $20.

I purused the Italian purses, from Francesco Biasia, but they were too expensive for my taste at $99 to $120. Most be older models because they don't look like any purses on Francesco Biasia

As I was checking out, I noticed Dooney & Bourke large-sized bags behind the counter for $250. Is Marshall's going upscale?

Other finds were more down to earth or back to school: Cayman or Earl & Wilson cotton quilts in either a blue or red patterns for $39.99, plus matching sheets and pillows available. Also kids' school uniforms, lunch boxes and clothes for that almost here first day of school. Happy hunting. -- Marcia "Bargain Hunter" Pounds

Three Linens 'n Things stores to close

Time to stock up on household goodies.

Linens 'n Things in Delray Beach, Wellington and Davie join the list of its South Florida stores slated to close. Those extra discount coupons probably are already in your mailbox.

The stores to close are: The Plaza of Delray Beach off Linton Boulevard and Federal Highway; The Mall at Wellington Green; and Tower Shops in Davie.

The chain filed for bankruptcy reorganization in May. Now, 57 underperforming stores nationwide are closing. That's actually fewer than the 87 planned, which is good news for employees and our household guests who like fresh towels. -- Marcia "Bargain Hunter" Pounds

Pottery Barn: Summer sale

candel.jpeg

vaes2.jpeg

Pottery Barn always has some cool things to revamp your home, especially accessories.

Now, when many of us don't have the extra bucks to totally redecorate our homes, it's time to take advantage of deals like Pottery Barn's summer sale. Take note that those items ending in .99 are final sale and cannot be returned,

Here are two great items that I found at www.potterybarn.com:

I love the Crown Pillar Candles that are painted white and distressed to make them look like they belonged to your grandma. They are handcarved and have a metal disc to catch the drips. They were $39 and are now $29.

My next fave, the Ceramic Sealife Vase, is a great buy, The pieces are very sculptural with ceramic shells and seaweed applied by hand, THey were $59-$149 and are on sale for $39-$99.

Happy shopping....Treat yourself and see the others at www.potterybarn.com.

New sheets make bedmaking easy

Anyone who has ever struggled changing a bed with fitted sheets will get a hoot out of this funny video.

GiGi Stetler has introduced two new sheet designs that take the chore out of bed making. Stetler knows what she is talking about because she owns an RV dealership in Fort Lauderdale. And apparently changing sheets on an RV bed is the ultimate challenge.

But you don't have to own an RV to use her new sheets. She claims they create a quick-and-easy “perfect fit” on mattresses of all sizes, including non-standard sizes. They reduce the time it takes to create a bed with smooth, wrinkle-free sheets that will stay that way all night.

The sheets are available in two styles. “The Perfect Elastic Fit” design features elastic bands at each corner that keep the sheets smooth and tightly secured to the mattress. “The Perfect Envelope Fit” is an all-in-one design in which the top and bottom sheets are attached at the bottom. The mattress slides into a zippered opening at the bottom. They come in single, double, queen and king. Or the company will customize them. Prices range from $219 for a 400 thread count queen set to $299 for a 600 thread count green set.
