Update on Office Depot $20 off $75 coupon

I used my $20 off $75 coupon to buy my Epson printer ink and it worked like a charm. (There was a question, since it didn't work on technology, would it work on printer ink.) At first the cashier said no technology, but I told him Office Depot customer service said it would work. I ran that total as close as I could to $75, the percentage of savings is best if you stay right at $75. It was fun seeing the $20 come off the total.

Attention all you eBayers!!! Don't spend all your profits on packing materials, Office Depot packing tape is on clearance, (6) 50m rolls for $7.41. I am scared to buy off-brand tape, you know how it shreds as you're using it? (Don't you hate when cheap tape unwinds in skinny strips and you can't get a whole piece off the roll?) I bought one pack to test it. It's thin, but with a tape dispenser, it's okay. It sure beats the brand name Scotch packing tape that costs almost $5 for one 50m roll.

I've already printed another $20 off $75 coupon for my return trip.

Coupons in Advance: Over $275 in coupons in Sunday's Sun Sentinel (7/5/09)

It's a holiday weekend, as usual for holidays, no Smart Source or Red Plum inserts, but you'll be happy to hear there's a very generous P & G Saver. Lots of $1 and $2 coupons to keep us happy...life's simple pleasures!

P&G has some of the all time favorites this month. $1 off Tide (think travel size) $1 off Cascade, and $1 off Pampers, $0.50 off Pampers wipes. (If you don't need diapers, clip the whole Pampers page and give it to someone, or leave it in the break room at work. Diapers are expensive.)

There are several good Olay coupons. Have a look at the list, and remember, it's double coupons at Kmart this upcoming week. Let us know what you find. There are other coupons scattered thoughout the ValPak, totalling over $275. Toys R Us, Books A Million and more.

Click here to see my list of the P&GbrandSAVER coupons. Can you tell I had to type mine in a hurry when my new co-workers weren't looking? Just ignore the typos. I'm going to a mini-college reunion and I have to pack.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July weekend!!

$20 off $75 at Office Depot

Keep those coupons flying, retailers, we love them. Just got a notice about $20 off $75 at Office Depot. Warning, it's huge, an ink guzzler! Click here to print the monster, good until 7/11.

I was going to use it for a wireless keyboard and mouse, but thanks to Pauline's post below, I won't have to go out in the rain. It's not good for technology products. Bummer. I need some more patience to read the fine print.

The coupon won't work with HP printer ink, but I called Office Depot and they tell me it is good for other brands. Might be a good time to stock up on ink so you can print more money saving (ink guzzling) coupons.

Coupon Chaos: Leave your savings tips and enter to win free coupons

We've had a lot of activity all over the blog lately. I love how it's working, you all are answering each other's questions, and really sharing tips, making this blog work for you. I encourage you to communicate with each other, trade coupons, and share ideas.

We had a little excitement on Sunday, with a lively discussion about using 2 coupons with a BOGO. A few posters were adamantly against using 2 coupons, since the second item is free. I think we will just leave it at that. If you don't believe in it, then by all means, just use one coupon...

Free Starbucks ice cream with coupons

starbucks.jpgFree Starbucks ice cream. "How?" you ask. Get 2 $2 off Starbucks coupons from Sunday's Smart Source coupon insert. You have to get 2 papers, or get the second coupon from a friend, but with $400 in coupons in Sunday's Sun-Sentinel, I'd say the second paper is a good investment.

Starbucks ice cream is BOGO (buy-one-get-one-free) at Publix through Wednesday, so head on over and get two for $3.79, give them two $2 off coupons, one for each ice cream, and actually make a few cents. They don't give you change so get something else while you are there.

Did you know you could use two coupons with a BOGO? If you aren't familiar with this, you are missing some great deals. Do yourself a favor, and register at couponmom.com, download her free eBooks, and read about couponing. You will thank me for this later.

If you didn't get two papers, you can print a coupon for $1.50 off Starbucks here. Use your back button to print two. These coupons don't last forever so print now!

Over $325 in coupons in Sunday's Sun Sentinel

Only one coupon insert this week, a Smart Source, but it's chock full of coupons. $1 off bananas when you buy Cheerios, $5 off Science Diet dog food, $2 off A1 Steak Sauce, $0.75 off Kraft BBQ sauce, $1 off Oreo Cakesters, and more. Click here to see the list.

Did you know, to get the best deals, you should be flexible, you can't be brand loyal. Stock up on items when you can match up coupons with sales and BOGOs (buy one get one free.) Did you know you can use 2 coupons with a BOGO? For example, this week there's a $1 coupon for yummy Oreo Cakesters, when they are buy-one-get-one, one is usually around $4, you get 2 for $4, right? So use two of the $1 coupons, making $8 worth of cookies cost you $2.

Now, isn't this worth getting two papers?

Coupons 101: "Where do you get the coupons," a reader asked

"Where do you get the coupons," a reader asked. To really get into couponing, you must first build a stash of coupons.

Not because I work for a newspaper, but this is the logical place to start. Get as many as you can, but at least two each week. Be creative: some readers get them from recyclers, neighbors, family or friends, and some buy a few papers.

Manufacturer's websites often run coupons, like the wonderful $3 Coppertone coupon we ran last week. Print them when you see them, because, for example, that $3 coupon has become a $1 coupon now. Kraft, Betty Crocker, Huggies, Pampers and others often have coupons. Sign up for mailings on products you use often. You can 'google' a product name with 'printable coupon' and if there's a coupon out there, with a little effort you will find it.

There are coupons websites: we run links to many in this blog. Check coupons.com, smartsource and redplum periodically as the selections continue to change. Or sign up for our RSS feed and we will notify you when new ones are added. Always print at least two of each, more if possible, if you have access to more than one computer. And print them when you see them, don't hope they will be there later.

Pick up coupons on the tearsheets and displays in the stores...you'll see them in the aisles as you shop. Publix has coupon books in the front of the stores. Take them, but stash them to use them when that item is on sale.

Sign up for emails from your favorite stores. Publix sends mailers, sometimes including a $5 off $30 coupon. Walgreens emails $5 off $25 coupons periodically. Sign up for the CVS Extra Care Program. CVS is very generous with their $3 off $15, $4 off $20 or $5 off $30 coupons. Target's website has coupons that change every week. Who am I forgetting?

Also, look in your daily newspaper for coupons. Friday 6/12, the Sun Sentinel ran a $10 off $50 coupon for Winn Dixie. Expires Sunday 6/14. Of course, we'd prefer you used this in Winn Dixie (they paid for the ad) but Publix takes competitors coupons.

Where else do you find coupons?

Tips for yard sales - for buyers and sellers

YARD.jpgSteven, my favorite 7 year old, and I like go to the library or the park when we hang out, but on Saturday mornings we go to yard sales. I let him ask how much, sellers can't resist a 7 year old yard sale junkie. He's gotten some of his favorite toys, books and movies for under $1.

I used to start at the crack of dawn, the dreaded lurker, while sellers are still setting up. That was when I was living on a teacher's salary and trying to set up a household. I've relaxed now, but still enjoy the treasure hunt. I'm sure I miss the best stuff, but I get some really great deals when folks are hot and tired and ready to clean up. Maybe I'll wind up on Antiques Roadshow with that long lost Renoir, who knows? What cool stuff have you found at yard sales?

I still find the best yard sale ads in the Sun Sentinel, not because I work here, but just because I like that they are organized by location, and I can carry the page with me. If the streets have names I mapquest the night before. I also check craigslist. Read some tips for yard sale buyers and sellers, both, at the Nesting Place.

-Does not include Kmart Store Coupons -Does not include Kmart Pharmacy Store Coupons -Does not include copies of manufacturer coupons -Limit 10 total coupons per customer per day - Doubled up to current retail price of a single item

Now, 'listen' carefully: If you are new to couponing, make sure you do your homework on this one. The old pros have learned this with experience...Kmart's prices are high, so sometimes even with double coupons, you can do better elsewhere.

Let's work together on this one. As you find good double coupon Kmart deals, add them in the comments below. Thanks Andrea for sharing this thread from hotcouponworld with ideas for savings.

Printable coupon: $1 off Keeblers Pecan Sandies

keebler.jpgYou can save $1 on Keeblers Pecan Sandies using this printable coupon. You can print 2 from each computer...use the back button.

There's a sweet deal this week at Walgreens, if you have access to another computer, and can print 2 more coupons. The cookies are 4 for $10 with a $3 Register Reward when you buy 4. Honestly, it worked like a charm...I got 4 packages of Sandies (regularly $4.29 each at retail) used 4 coupons and paid $3 in total for all 4 packs.

While you're in coupons.com, print the $1.50 off Starbucks coffee if you haven't already done so. Coffee and cookies....yummy!

Printable coupon: $1.50 off Starbucks coffee in your grocery store

starbucks.gifI don't know about you...but coffee just doesn't taste the same when I make it at home. My theory is that my little plastic Braun drip coffee maker just can't get hot enough.

There just isn't enough time in the day...so I suffer through my own homemade coffee, lukewarm as it is. Can I say this in a Starbucks post...I've been buying the 4 bag special for $19.99 at Dunkin Donuts. (That's okay, this is a shopping blog, not a Starbucks ad!)

You can save $1.50 on Starbucks brand by using this printable coupon. Coupon is not good in a Starbucks, just in your grocery store.

Look out for steals on eBay in this economy

jar.JPGAfter months of discussing shopping deals on this blog, do I dare bring up one of my favorite haunts...eBay? There's not a day that goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars that I live in the Internet Age.

In my teaching days (love those summers), I spent many a summer in London, antiquing at Portobello Road, Bermundsey Market, etc. Found some great sterling and crystal vanity jars and amassed quite a collection before the prices went sky high in the 1990s.

The timing is right if you can buy in this economy. Savvy sellers start their eBay auctions high, but occasionally you'll find the seller who tries to psyche you into bidding with a low starting price. Look out for these, there are deals to be had. A friend recently bought more jars than she meant to because she placed some lowball bids and won!

Other items to watch, if you still enjoy your sterling flatware, this could be a good time to add to your set. Or old crystal stemware patterns. No hurry, just type in the eBay search bar your pattern name, and look for a good deal every now and then. Don't think of it as taking advantage of someone suffering from the bad economy, think of it as helping someone get through the hard times.

Have you bought or sold anything on eBay recently? What good deals have you seen?

Visit Borders bookstore for Mothers Day with this coupon for 30% off

Reader Robin commented on my last Borders post that she heard rumors that Borders was closing. Rather than answer in the comments I will post it here. You are right, Robin, Borders is in trouble.

The Borders chain has been having financial difficulties, as you may imagine, due to the faltering economy and Internet competition. I hate to imagine life without my favorite hangout, the Borders on Sunrise Blvd, nestled so comfortably on the river, just west of the Galleria.

Borders has closed some of it's stores, and the rest of the chain is for sale. To read the Huffington Post article click here.

I am probably as frugal as the rest of you...have been a good shopper all my life. But when it comes to buying books, I support my local Borders! There are good deals online, but not the ambience, and you can't touch and feel all the beautiful books. The home and design picture books are my faves!

The Coupon Queen gets $66 in groceries for $12 in Publix

I'm getting anxious because a lot of my coupons are expiring on 4/30. So I went shopping! Have I truly lost it?

The grandkids love Crustables, the frozen PB&J sandwiches, usually $2.79 a box, on sale at Publix for $2, the .55 coupon expires 4/30. Now, I know, I'm nuts to pay even $1.50 for 4 PB&Js, but for some reason they like them better than the ones we make. Go figure!

Thanks to Andrea's reminder, I bought 4 of the StarKist SeaSations, frozen fish entrees, which are BOGO thru Wednesday, and with 4 $3 off coupons, FREE! Has anyone tried them...are they edible? There were 4 flavors, is one better than the others?

Fresh Express Salad Mixes are on sale for $2.50, and there's a $1 off coupon in the yellow Publix flyer at the front of the store.

My favorite Ocean Spray Cranberry 100% Juice, is BOGO use two $1 coupons. I know we've had reports of folks having trouble with this coupon. Sorry. I used it tonight again. I find if you just buy a few they will take it. The day I tried to buy 8 bottles at one time, they wouldn't.

So, in a nutshell, I got $66 worth of groceries for $12. When I checked out, the sweet cashier said, "You are the Coupon Queen of the night." If she only knew!

This weekend my husband, Carter, and I went to BBB in Delray Beach with a fistfull of coupons. We bought two bathroom rugs and a new shower head and saved $29!

What is great about the folks at BBB is the following:

The salesclerk will figure out which of your coupons -- 20 percent off, $10 off or $5 off -- gives you the best deal.

They will accept out-of-date coupons.

And, if you buy more stuff than coupons, you can bring the sales recipet and the coupon back and you will get the discount.

Over $350 in coupons will be in Sunday's 4/19 Sun-Sentinel, see the list inside

Here it is. A list in advance...which coupons will be in Sunday's Sun-Sentinel. We hope it will give you a heads up as to how many papers you need to scrounge up this week. Call your neighbors, cruise the recyclers in your local coffee shop, or if you are going to save $50, then you might just buy a few extra papers.

Remember, a strategic shopper uses two coupons with a buy-one-get-one-free offer, or finds a good sale to combine with a coupon. I honestly can't remember the last time I paid $4 for a box of cereal! Can you?

This week April 19th, there are two coupon inserts, Smart Source and Red Plum. Click here for the lists. I may have missed a few, I have to catch a flight in a few hours, I'm typing as fast as I can!!

Double coupons at some Kmarts the week of April 19th

Thanks to Andrea for this tip. Kmart will be doubling coupons, up to $2, at some stores this week.

I'm leaving for my niece's wedding in Ohio in the morning, I should be packing and getting some sleep, but I couldn't let this date get by without sharing with you.

Double coupons are the biggest news in the couponing community, and it's a rare occasion. I don't have time to follow up, because I have an early morning flight, so you will have to do your homework, to see if your store, or which stores, are participating.

Go to Kmart.com and type in your zipcode.

$9 off Huggies diapers at Costco with purchase of Huggies wipes

huggies.jpgI told my daughter if she went back to school, I'd help her with groceries, hence my coupon-mania. With two toddlers, the expensive diapers are breaking me!!!

That wonderful Huggies $5 coupon / Walgreens Reward deal was huge, but sadly it's over. When there are no deals out there, I get them at Costco, where they cost 23 cents each. Stopped in today to stock up, and the nice cashier told me about the Costco $9 diaper coupon in the Costco savings book. You had to buy both Huggies diapers and wipes to get $9 off the total purchase.

1000 wipes, $23.99 and 176 diapers, $40.49. Minus the $9. Okay folks, this is where you should join in and tell us where to get a better deal. Anyone?

If you need diapers in a hurry, or are not a Costco member, click here for a $1.50 off Huggies coupon.

Printable coupons for Huggies, Colgate Total & more

In case you haven't noticed, I'm the grocery coupon freak of the Shop-O-Matic bloggers. Last week I spent $50 at Publix and saved $77. I know some of you are even better, one of our readers said her friend got $112 worth of groceries for a few dollars. We need to use Shop-O-Matic to share our savings ideas.

We found some printable coupons to share with you. Click here for $1 off Colgate Total and $1.50 off Huggies, and more. The first time you use this coupon site, you have to download a coupon printer. It's best to just select one coupon, go to print it, and you will be walked through downloading the printer. You may have to restart your computer after the download to get the printer to work.

A strategic shopper does not use the coupon on a retail item. There's more to it than that, wait until there is a BOGO (buy-one-get-one-free) use two coupons and get the toothpaste for free. CVS has a BOGO on Colgate Total this week, not exactly this one though. We'll keep looking.

Coupon Chaos Tuesday: Enter to win free coupons from Shop-O-Matic

coupons1.JPGWelcome to Coupon Chaos Tuesday. If you share your best money saving shopping tips in this post, which starts new each Tuesday, you are entered to win free coupons from Shop-O-Matic.

Couponing is a real science, it's not just 30 cents off an item. It's combining 2 coupons with a buy-one-get-one-free deal, and getting the $4 item for $1. Or if you are really good at it, free!

We had some good tips last week. Our winner is Holly, with her great tips from Albertsons. I am a spoiled couponer...I rely so much on the shopping websites with their sale lists and coupon match-ups. I haven't learned a good site for our Florida Albertsons yet. Anyone know of one? Let's make Coupon Chaos the go-to place to learn of these deals!

We had a great post last week from Andrea, suggesting we have a coupon meet-up to share ideas and trade coupons. What do you think? We'd love to meet our readers.

Let's hear your weekly shopping tips. Where are the best deals?

Free 60-day shopping pass to BJ's Wholesale Club

I've been a member of Costco for years, and enjoy the benefits of shopping at a wholesale club. I used to drive out there when I was in the mood for flowers, they have beautiful roses, but I haven't done that since I've been saving for my hurricane windows. Don't you just hate budgeting?!

Now that I have embraced couponing, I am considering switching to BJ's. BJ's accepts all manufacturer's coupons, Costco does not. With this free 60-day shopping pass, you can be sure I'm going to give it a try! Pass must be activated by July 6, 2009. Click here to print pass.

Let's get a discussion going: BJ's, Sam's or Costco? Discuss the pros and cons, we'd love to hear what you think? Where are the best deals? Are they worth the membership fee?

Get SanDisk 1GB media card for $5 at Walgreens

I recently took a picture of blogging buddy 'Bargain Hunter Marcia' for her Facebook and Twitter accounts. We found a spot with good light so I said let's just keep shooting until we get a good one.

Well, her camera was loaded with precious pictures of her trip to Europe with her son, as well as other sentimental journeys. She had to find some to delete so we could keep shooting.

Here it is Marcia! A 1GB card, at Walgreens, of all places, for $10, but get $5 in Register Rewards, like cash at Walgreens, making the card $5. Offer good all week, through April 18th.

Only one to a customer, but of course, you can just stop at the next Walgreens and buy another one. Don't try to roll your Register Rewards on a second card, you won't get the rewards if you pay with rewards...there's a lot to learn in Walgreens 101.

Walgreens deals of the week April 12-18th

Strategic shoppers are going to have a big week in Walgreens this week. If you are into using your manufacturer's coupons when things are on sale, you can save big.

There are so many websites that help us strategic shop, it's almost mindless these days. No more fumbling around with little clippings. Just print your sale list (one for each retail store) from your favorite strategic shipping website and clip the coupons from your files, which should be carefully put away by publication date. I use couponmom.com for my lists, but I also scope out others for saving scenarios.

I made a quick stop yesterday on my way home from dinner at Mom's. Not a big shopping spree, just stocked up on a few buy-one-get-one free Lysol cleaning products. Combined with coupons, they were soooo cheap!

Check out the Walgreens deals on MoneySavingMom. com.

Macy's: $10 coupon off $25 purchase

You can't say stores aren't trying to entice us to buy.

Macy's is offering a $10 coupon if you spend $25 on regular, sale or even clearance merchandise. That can add up to great savings for savvy shoppers.

Of course, you have to read the fine print for the exceptions -- such as cosmetics, fragrances, watches, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein. All the usual suspects....You recognize them if you have used these kind of coupons before.

Better hurry. It's only valid today or tomorrow until 1 p.m. Click here for coupon.

Save $30 off first order at Bluefly

This purple ruched jersey one shoulder dress by Envi is so hot it sears the blog. Who could resist you in this?

The retail value is supposely $164, but it is $98 at Bluefly.com -- a great price for a fab look. I looked for shoes to go with, but they were too pricey.

But if you are a first time customer and spend $150, you can save $30, according to dealhack.com. Use the coupon code AFF30 before April 30.

Sun Sentinel Sunday coupons in advance - April 5th

coupons1.JPGHey there, strategic shoppers! You'll be happy to know there's a P&G brand SAVER in Sunday's coupon stash, so there will be three inserts this weekend.

(Added Sunday: There was an extra Smart Source in my paper this morning that I wasn't told about in advance. So there were 4 inserts in the paper, Sunday April 5th. Great news for our readers.)

From now on....check Shop-O-Matic on Fridays to see which coupons will be in Sunday's paper. By the way, there won't be any coupons next weekend, so don't look for our list next week. And let me know if this will be useful to you, please. It took lots of my precious time, so you'd better let me know it's worthwhile.

I'd hog the whole Shop-O-Matic space listing them out front, there are a lot this week, so click on the links to see the lists. The biggest news in Smart Source is the repeat performance of the $5 off Science Diet, for all you dog lovers. Then there's the old favorites: Pampers, Olay, Gillette. Which coupons do you look forward to?

Click here for Smart Source. Here for Red Plum, and here for P&G.

Remember that a strategic shopper waits to use a coupon with a sale or BOGO (buy-one-get-one) offer, when you can use two. Ask a neighbor for their inserts, or get two Sunday papers, so you will be ready for the deals!

Added Friday: Sorry folks, I read the fine print about not good in Kansas City stores, but my tired old eyes couldn't even see the fine fine print listing the states. I just spoke to the FL Honeybaked folks, instead of a ham coupon, they lowered the price from $6.99/lb to $5.99 for the holiday. Here's a coupon good in Florida. Printable Coupon: Arm & Hammer laundry detergent~Deal at Albertsons today

arm.jpg
If you missed the BOGO deals on Arm & Hammer laundry detergent at Walgreens and CVS in the last few weeks there's an even better deal at Albertsons which ends today, March 31st.

Arm & Hammer laundry detergent is on sale at Albertsons for $2.99 this week, but I just caught it this morning, last day. Still, some of you might be able to take advantage. Use the $1 off printable coupon with this sale, and it's even better than the BOGO deals.

You might have to register to print these coupons. You can print 2 off each computer, good until 4/22/09. I've always been a Tide gal myself, but now that we're strategic shopping, we can't be brand loyal.

Publix coupons: Which coupons will they accept?

The Shop-o-matic bloggers were all astounded when Publix accepted Kathy's CVS coupon. It sounded almost too good to be true. Fact is: It was. Our Kathy was lucky, because Publix does not redeem CVS coupons. She thought she would pass the info on because it was the store manager who cashed it in for her.

According to Publix spokeswomn Kim Jaeger, Publix will accept coupons from its traditional supermarket competitors such as: Albertson’s, Food Town, Fresh Market, Presidente, Sedanos Super Markets, Tropical, Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets and Winn-Dixie.

Publix will not accept coupons from: BJ’s Wholesale Club, Costco, CVS, K-Mart, Meat or produce markets, Sam’s Club, SuperTarget, Walgreens, Wal-Mart SuperCenter, Whole Foods and Wild Oats.

Our advice: Print out this list and keep it with your coupons.

Publix BOGOs for the week of March 26th to April 1st

I always love the day Publix announces their new BOGO (buy-one-get-one-free) items. Life's simple pleasures.

This week there's an interesting assortment: Doritos, Lysol cleaner, Kelloggs Frosted Mini Wheats, Gatorade, Pepperidge Farm Goldfish, Oscar Meyer hot dogs, Post Cereal, Q-tips. See all at the Publix website.

A real strategic shopper will combine these items with manufacturers coupons and take full advantage of the savings. The cool thing is you can use one coupon for each item, even the free one. Every once in a while you get a grumpy cashier who won't allow it, but most do. We learn who the grumpy cashiers are, fast, and avoid their lines.
