Wii Fit update

My Target in Plantation sold out of their supply of 30 Wii Fits in about 30 minutes. A clerk told me that they had people lined up for the store's 8 a.m. opening and they ran to the electronics department (great way to work in the cardio, guys!). My physical therapy appointment got canceled so I tooled over to Target to see whether there were any left and lo and behold, I got the last one! (I had the clerk double-bag the box so no one could spy my haul).

According to the clerks at GameStop, which opens at 10 a.m. (in most locations), they'll be fulfilling their customers' preorders, then selling whatever they have left to the general public.

For Earth Day: Water bottles we love

Here's a post from our diet and fitness blog The Skinny:

I celebrated the very first Earth Day at my elementary school; I wore tie-dyed pants and carried a "Stop Noise Pollution" sign that I attached to a snow shovel (we lived under an O'Hare Airport landing pattern that made the house rattle).

So in honor of this Earth Day, we at Skinny HQ are letting you know about our favorite reusable water bottles.

rubbermaid%20bottle.jpgI'm a fan of Rubbermaid's chug-top 20- and 32-ounce water bottles, which I buy at the grocery store. (The 20-ounce bottle is at right.) It's a non-leaching No. 5 plastic and both sizes fit in my car cupholder as well as the elliptical at the gym.

Laura likes Rubbermaid's 2-quart MixerMate bottle, which is fridge-door friendly and also No. 5 plastic.

Yahoo's cool new Shine e-mag has an article about water bottles. Check it out HERE. One interesting thing I discovered from reading it was that Camelbak is reformulating all its water bottles to be bisphenol-A free by May 1. Yay!

Got a water bottle that you love?

Mother's Day for Yoga moms

Mother's Day gifts don't have to be boring.

If you know a young mom who loves yoga, here are a few great gifts:
Yoga mats don't have to be Plain Jane. Check out these nature-inspired designs of Gaiam yoga mats with matching bags from Barnes & Noble. The mats are $21.98 and the bags are $19.98.

And if that yoga mom had a baby recently, I found the perfect book that you can buy at the same time. Check out Baby OM: Yoga for Mothers and Babies (Henry Holt & Co., $18) by Laura Staton and Sarah Perron. It includes everything from baby bonding exercises to a discussion of the benefits of yoga for postpartum depression.

Happy shopping.

Gadget Gossip: The latest in MP3 players

bodibeat

You’re out for a run, and you’re doing a good pace because the iPod is jammin’ to some upbeat song. All of a sudden, a slower song comes on causing you, too, to slow down.

Hate it when that happens.

Enter, BODiBEAT, a new product from Yamaha that’s an MP3 player with a twist: it selects and plays songs to match the pace of the user’s work out. How does it work? The unit’s software categorizes each downloaded song by beats per minute (bpm), so that the tempo of the user controls what songs play.

That means if you go from jogging to walking, the song switches to a tune that goes better with the reduced pace.

Talk about literally moving to the beat.

Find it: The BODiBEAT, $299.99, will be available in May at www.bodibeat.com.
