Wish Miami: 30 to 50 percent discount

necklace.jpg

If you're the kind of person who loves chunky jewelry and designer-style handbags, better hurry to Wish Miami at 2025B Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood.

The store is closing this Friday, but until then you can get 30 to 50 percent off really cool necklaces, sunglasses, wallets and handbags.

The Web site will continue. To see their stuff Click here

One caveat: They look a lot like the designer stuff, but they aren't the real thing. That's why they have prices like $29.95 and $59.95 for handbags and $12.95 for sunglasses and $14.95 necklaces.

EXPO Design Centers Closing in South Florida

expo1.jpg

DesignIMGappliances.jpg

When I learned that The Home Depot was laying off 7,000 workers and closing 40 stores, I never imagined that it would mean they were closing the three Expo Design Centers in South Florida.

Our stores in Boynton Beach, Davie and Miami are among the five closing statewide.

If you have ever shopped or gone to one of the EXPO centers to dream about what your home could look like, you'll agree with me that this is sad news.

The EXPO folks told The Associated Press that the EXPO stores were underperformers even during the housing boom. Now, with the stock market losses hitting the high-end shopper, sales have declined even more.

The only things I ever bought there were throw pillows and ceiling fans, but I loved to dream about how my bathroom or kitchen could look with the best fo everything that they sold. I loved the way it gave average folks access to the best of home furnishings without having to hire a designer and paying the designer fees.

But one thing may have led to its demise. I checked out some plantation shutters and didn't buy them there because they required full payment when the product was ordered. I think a lot of folks were uncomfortable paying it all up front.

Rest in peace, EXPO.
