Land of the Free: Veterans Day freebies around South Florida

On Veterans Day, we honor those who have so honored us with their service and sacrifice to keep America strong and free.

Hundreds of retailers and restaurants also salute the military, offering discounts to veterans, active duty and retired U.S. military, National Guard and reservists on Sunday and Monday. In some cases, spouses and families members are included, too.

Many military discounts aren’t publicized, so be sure to ask if one available before making a purchase or dining and have your military identification so you can take advantage of the deal.

Free admission to SeaWorld, Busch Gardens for military families

Anheuser-Busch salutes our troops by offering free admission year round to SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Sesame Place and Water County USA theme parks to members of the U.S. military and their families with a valid ID.

The “Here’s to the Heroes” program is good for all active-duty military personnel in all service branches, active members of a reserve or National Guard unit and up to three direct dependents. Just register and get free single-day admissions to SeaWorld Orlando, San Diego or San Antonio; Busch Gardens Tampa Bay or Williamsburg, Sesame Place in Pennsylvania, Adventure Island in Tampa and Water Country USA in Virginia. Family members can get in free without their service member.

There are some restrictions and the deal is valid for one admission per person, per year.

The popular Rovio video game, which lets you use slingshots to launch mad birds at dumb pigs, arrived on the social networking scene.

For Veterans Day, Central and South Florida business are showing their appreciation for veterans by serving up freebies and deals through Monday.

We've rounded up a massive list of more than 30 freebies -- from meals to entertainment and attractions to goods, services and shopping discounts -- in our "Land of the Free" list.

To get the goods, there are two rules of engagement: Bring along your valid military ID and enjoy yourself.

We've also found a few offers for civilians, too, such as penny deals at McDonald's on friday, free entrance to Everglades National Park and Canaveral National Seashore on Friday-Monday. Free Bloomin' Onion and Coke at Outback for veterans through Nov. 11

Veterans and active military can get a free Bloomin' Onion and a Coke product at Outback Steakhouse starting Monday through Friday, Nov. 11, as a thank you for service to our country.

The freebie is open to active and former military personnel with valid I.D. (U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), Veterans Organization Card (American Legion and VFW), DD214 Certificate or Veteran Identification Card (VIC). Or, wear your uniform to the restaurant or show a photo in uniform.

Since 2009, the restaurant chain has donated $2 million to the non-profit Operation Homefront, which provides emergency support for active troops, wounded warriors and their families.
