Vexed by this vaccine

gardasil.jpg

My three girls will not be appearing in any of Merck's commercials for the Gardasil vaccine for cervical cancer. (See photo at left.)

I am thrilled that several state Legislatures, including Florida's, have stopped jumping on the Gardasil bandwagon. At least 20 states were considering making the cervical cancer vaccine mandatory for 11- and 12-year-old girls. Although the shot prevents sexually transmitted diseases, I am skeptical because of the intensive lobbying effort by Merck, which funded groups that were promoting the vaccine.

This vaccine has not been around long enough for us to know if there are long-term negative effects (Remember Vioxx?) or how long the immunity even lasts. I'm glad everyone has come to their senses and is taking a step back to see if this shot is all it's cracked up to be.

The worst thing is people still misspeak about this vaccine.

IT DOES NOT STOP GENETAL WARTS> All it does is prevent cervical cancer. That is all. It stops cancer caused by genetal warts. Most cases of genetal warts do not lead to cervical cancer. The vaccine is only at BEST 70% effective. The vaccine own litterature states that sometimes the vaccine does not fully work.

There was a fine print that parents CAN refuse the vaccine. Even if there was not, over my dead body!

I am just up in arms that people just blantently give up there freedoms and allow a pharacutical companie to make money.

Each time I heard that commercial or any refference it makes me sick.

Hi,
So true what you said...
Selling vaccines is a big business these days. Yes, there was a lot of ads on TV about HPV vaccine and how it's going to prevent cervical cancer. In reality HPV is linked to cancer but have never been proven to cause it. They linked it because in about 30% of women with cervical cancer, HPV was present. Please... Now they want to make this "vaccine" mandatory for all little school girls? I can see $ signs in someone's eyes. So sad...
