McDonald's Moms
Like my fellow transPARENT blogger Brittany Wallman, I haven't been to a McDonald's in a long time. It's definitely not on my radar when I'm thinking about where to take the kids to eat.
But after hearing about McDonald's campaign to work with mothers to improve the chain's fast food, I'm thinking of giving it a try.
The company is set to start a Moms blog today. They sought women from all over the country who wanted to write about their fast-food experiences. They apparently are listening to the women and modifying their menu accordingly.
When I went on the Web site, I was shocked to see nutrition advice from Dr. Dean Ornish, a famous vegetarian. I checked out what McDonald's has been serving and saw an assortment of salads I had no idea they were offering.
Still, if you bring your family to McDonald's, the kids are going to want a burger and fries.
What do you do when you go to a fast-food joint? Do you make your kids eat as healthy as possible, or do you just say "I give up. Order what you want!"?

I ban fries 95 percent of the time. Mickey D's has apple dippers -- nutrition friendly and pretty tasty. Most Fast Food places now give parents some sort of fruit side option. I concede that the main course, if you can call it that at FF, still tends to be the chicken tenders and burgers. I try to lean toward all-white meat choices, and I don't think a Happy Meal-type burger is the worst thing if eaten in moderation. For us, that's once every couple of weeks on average. Hey, it's easy and you can't beat the "free" movie-tie in toys, can you? (I guess you can, but I've been a loyal McDonald's customer for three-plus decades and I'm not planning to stop.)
