Our 2-year-old, Alexander, figured something out recently: If one parent says no, try the other.
We've tried to hold the line, but there's been at least one crack in the "we're united on discipline" front. I confess that I was to blame for that one. (Sorry!) But it's a fascinating process to watch unfold. He wants to know what buttons to push, and when to push them.
That got me thinking: How does this apply to your household?

we will push buttons until every button has been pushed and every possible outcome has been dealt with and sorted out into different scenarios in our minds.
as for who's in charge? Even in nature, Mom is the one who is really wearing the pants. Wait until Alex hits his more literate years, and begins to yearn for the forbidden fruit. I can almost guarantee you that you will only have one rhetorical response to his inquisitions...
