Reality star Jade Goody dies: Her boys deal with death in the spotlight
I didn’t come to know about Jade Goody until she became the symbol of cervical cancer as the young mother of two little boys. I didn’t watch her on Big Brother U.K. And I didn’t watch her on yet another reality series as she got the news that she was dying of the disease.
But her story has captivated me since she chose to die on television, selling exclusive rights to filming her final days of life. Goody died over the weekend.
As a mother, I can’t stop thinking about her little boys. What they must be going through. And that they had to go through this very tragic time in the spotlight of television cameras. In a flash, those little boys were forced to grow up and deal with a painful reality many adults have yet to experience.
I’ve wondered if given the chance, would I make the decision Goody made to die in front of the cameras. I’m glad I don’t have to make that choice. Goody’s decision was apparently a financial one: The money she received in exchange for her access would go a long way in providing for her children and paying for their education long after she was gone.
But at what cost to the children? I guess the millions could also go toward paying for the kids’ counseling, as well, because they’ll surely need it.

she what she did as a mother you have no right to question her actions and make catty remarks about her boys needing counseling. as you put it you are lucky not to have had to make such a decision

I can't stop crying for all of them, her her boys and her husband.I have a 4 year old son myself and constantly worry about his life without me should something happen,I am a single mom, with not much family.I would do the same as she did to ensure my sons future, the hell with the public, she is and was very brave and responsible.God bless her.

Nobody knows what they would do when faced such a terrible situation. Not only to face your death at such a young age, but the fact that your children will be left without a mother so young. Jane Goody did what most mothers would do, try to ensure her boys future by whatever means she could. A brave and gutsy woman.

Jade Goody was so brave to be able to cope with all that she had to go through.

We were Americans working in the UK at the time when Jade was on Big Brother. We watched her outlandish behaviour only once, and called off watching any more British exploitation on these kids. What has been remarkable was Jade's growth into a courageous woman, who, after finding out she had cancer, faced it with such grace. In fact, her turn to Christian values put her on the radar for her critics, who were fortunately silenced by her search for joy in the midst of a terminal disease. We watched her find joy in her boys and looking forward to her wedding. Some criticized her for the £ amount she spent on her wedding, but with only weeks left in her life, who can fault her? She died with dignity-even calling her loved ones to her bedside to watch the glorious Springtime out her window. Was it a coincidance that she died on Mothering Sunday or was it a glorious, heavenly tribute paid to her by the One she found her peace with. What an exit of great grace!
