Gotta love Bristol Palin, abstinence spokeswoman

Is there a parent out there who believes Bristol Palin is a role model?

Somehow, the 18-year-old daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has gotten a job promoting abstinence through the Candie's Foundation, which seeks to prevent teen pregnancies. Bristol has a 5-month-old boy now.

She had previously told Fox News that abstinence wasn't realistic. Now she says: "It's a hard choice, but it's the safest choice and it's the best choice."

What was the Candie's Foundation thinking? I can't imagine any parent saying, "Be like Bristol Palin." Looks like more of a publicity move for this foundation than rational thinking on who would be a good teen role model.

So what, does she take her 5-month-old son as "show and tell," to say: careful, this could happen to you...how very awful for her son! I know it's more complicated than that - as you say, Lois, what was the foundation even thinking? Still, I wonder what the kid will think over time about himself.....

She's no more of a role model than her mother was an 'expert' on Russia because she could see it out her kitchen window....

I was pretty alarmed - and disappointed - to see Bristol on the cover of People magazine in her graduation gown and holding her child. This the message we want to send to young girls? "Get knocked up, be a cover model."

Seriously?? "GOTTA" love her?

How about....NO!

She's no role model, 3 months before she began this charade of a campaign for abstinence she said that abstinence was IMPOSSIBLE for teens!!! Why did she change her tune within a matter of a few months? Could this possibly be to help her mother? hmmmmm.

The broader picture here is what does this say about how she thinks about her son ? It's ludicrous to be a spokeswoman for abstinence AFTER you have a child !

y'all sound like you're dumber than a box of rocks. what the girls are going to see is what they can be doing in nine months if they don't be careful. the only l00% form of birth control is abstinence. if that's impossible, use other methods but they're all subject to failure. i guess y'all check your daughters purses before they go out at night to make sure they're loaded up with bc pills, condoms, morning after pills, plus you keep an abortionist on retainer just in case.

But if it's Britney or Ashlee Simpson or one someone in Entertainment world (read: Liberal), then we'd be hearing Oh leave her alone, let her make her own choices. Crap, if it were up to you Libs, my daughter would be able to have an abortion without me knowing about it.

It's nice of the Candies foundation to give Bristol a good gig and it's nice of People to give her press. I'm assuming they are paying for her time, so she should have made out quite well if she has any sense. (good advice from my first boss- Mike get your money first)

On the other hand, if the object is to help other teens who might be at risk, I think promoting abstinence while showing how well the reverse worked out for Bristol doesn't make any sense. I think the Candies Foundation should support Planned Parenthood. A combination of promoting abstinence and knowledge of birth control methods, STDs is best. Bristol could say, "I didn't know after we had unprotected sex I should have gone on birth control pills." As opposed to "Don't have sex. You don't want to have a kid. They are so demanding. Look at my adorable child."

Read: STUPID. Where does liberal come into it??? I suppose the so called liberal press is also responsible for her being pregnant in the first place. She will be left alone once she stops stepping in the spotlight.

Both Britney & Ashlee Simpson were adults, married and had careers (and money) of their own before they had kids, so I am not sure exactly how they are good examples. If anything, can you imagine the kind of things we would have heard from the right-wing nutjobs if Obama had been running for President, standing on stage with his unwed, pregnant teen daughter?
