Parents: Where do you eat out with the kiddies?
I got some interesting comments to my recent post about good restaurants for kids. But I need more. SunSentinel.com will feature these recommendations with a short description of the eatery.
Remember that we don’t necessarily mean places with flashy lights or playgrounds outside – although those places are fine, too. Just tell us where you go on those Friday nights when you can’t possibly bear cooking macaroni and cheese one more time, let alone face another stack of dishes. Restaurants down here run the gamut; it’s not just a question of fancy or fast food. We get to choose between the tiki bar or the hotel lounge. It’s a hard life, as we all know.
So where do you go? Where do you feel comfortable bringing kids?

Well, my wife and I walk a fine line when picking places to take the kids to eat. My kids are ages 4 and 2 and there are certain places that we enjoy dining that just are not suitable for kids. There are also many places I think of as being "kid friendly" restaurants that we go to once in a while, but my wife and I don't particular care for them.
These are the places my wife and I go to often with the kids:
1. Landlubbers in Sunrise. (Food is always great and they have a good choices on the kids menu).
2. La Bamba in Sunrise. (Ok, they really don't have a kids menu so we wind up ordering them chicken fingers off the regular menu, but the food is so good we go there anyway).
3. Sushi Hibachi Palace in Coral Springs. (Again, there is no kids menu but my wife and I love this place so we go anyway. The kids like the "show" put on by the chef. We usually order a side of noodles for the kids for $1 or $2 extra and give the kids some of our steak and/or chicken since they give you so much food).
4. Cheesecake Factory.
5. Ruby Tuesday.
6. Bru's Room.
As much as my wife and I love Thai and Chinese food, we have found it very difficult to eat out at many Asian restaurants because of the lack of a kids menu and because no kids' cup. One restaurant game my 2 year old her drink in a large GLASS. (Now we know that if we go out to an Asian restaurant we take a sippy cup for our 2 year old.)
This past weekend we were at the Breakers hotel visiting my parents who were celebrating their 50th anniversary there and there was a nice Italian restaurant there that was extremely kid friendly. (I think it was actually called "the Italian Restaurant." Part of the restaurant had separate play and activity areas for kids of all ages. One area was for toddlers that was semi-supervised (they issue a wrist bracelet to kids over 3 who play in the area themselves, but if they leave the area a bell goes off to alert the staff). Another area had arts and crafts. Another area had X-Box games. Another area had a mini-theater. And then there was a game room with arcade games. The prices at the restaurant are kinda steep (it is the Breakers after all) but it was very nice.

We love The Dubliner in Boca at Mizner Park. Kid and dog friendly. We eat outside in the courtyard away from the street so our little one can get down from the table when she gets antsy.....they provide chalk and have slate tables so the kids love to draw directly on the tables. The food is amazing....always go for the fish specials when they have them....and they have a kids portion of fish and chips that is perfect for our 3 year old. Enjoy and say Hi to Shawn (one of the owners) for us!

BRIO Tuscan Grille Shops at Pembroke Gardens -- amazing and extensive full sized kid menu. Will even give the kid's pizza dough to play with and then fire it up for them. Great atmosphere -- not too quiet.

PF Changs! My son loves the wonton soup, sans the wontons (just the broth). And he actually enjoys their fried calamari. As for the main course, the honey chicken dish, with the honey on the side.
My husband and I can enjoy some nice food and ambience and -- a plus -- we can go shopping at the Galleria right afterwards, if we so choose.

We love taking the kids to Pizza Fusion in Weston or Ft. Laud. Our youngest is allergic to milk, and one of our other sons is Autistic... Pizza Fusion has GFCF menu items so we can all go out to eat like a family without worrying about their diet restrictions! It's great! Plus they are all 100% organic (even the delivery cars are hybrids) and the Spinach Artichoke pizza is to die for!

Holy cow, do you people ever feed your kids anything healthy? Donuts, noodles, pancakes, fried food. Geez, no wonder childhood obesity is out of control. Why don't you just trussle them up at the feeding line at the Golden Corral, and pick them up in 4 hours.

What, youve never given your child a treat before?

I don't have kids, I'm too young still. But...a treat is one thing. I'm just wondering if this is how these kids eat all the time.
