Think twice about your actions. Your kids are watching.

I saw this on a friend's Facebook page yesterday and it gave me goosebumps.

I like to think that I set a good example. My daughter will scold strangers who litter (always puts a smile on my face), but it is easy to get caught up in our daily routines and forget how closely our kids are watching.

Please pass this on and share it with other parents. Very powerful message.

That little girl should have disposed of her cigarette in a proper receptacle, not on the ground! That's littering!

But seriously, there is a difference between doing something in front of your kids that you don't want them to see and something that a person just should not do.

For example, while I personally do not smoke, if you smoke in front of your kids they are going to think its ok to smoke. And also, I think exposing children to cigarette smoke is irresponsible. Or, you might not want to get into an argument with someone in front of your child because you don't want your child to see you like that. So, a responsible parent might want to think twice before doing those things in front of their kids.

But that video was also filled with a-holes who are doing things that should NEVER be done - whether it is in front of their kids or not! I have no respect for some of the people depicted in the video (like the people who abuse animals, who think nothing of throwing a piece of garbage on the ground or hurl it out of their car window while they are driving, or who just act like a-holes to other people in general). Unfortunately, South Florida seems to have more than our fair share of these types of people. When I travel outside of the state it is amazing how much more friendly, courteous and helpful people are.

Speaking of helpful, with regard the part of the video that showed the mother trying to take her stroller up/down a flight of stairs and the father and son passing by her without helping... sure, it would have been nice for the father to help the woman with the stroller, but she had no business trying to take a stroller up/down stairs in the first place. Today with the Americans with Disabilities Act, there are no public places that do not have elevators or ramps to provide access to wheelchairs and strollers.

Thanks for the comment, Joe. I agree that many of the behaviors are much more than irresponsible and are flat out inhuman. Regarding the woman on the stairs, I think the issue was that he pushed past her and knocked her bags off of her shoulder and then just kept walking. That and the spot is from Australia, so don't think the ADA applies :)
