"Black Dog Syndrome" leaves dogs unwanted

Can’t get enough news about pets and the animal kingdom?

The Orlando Sentinel, our sister newspaper (in guess where?), also has a great blog called Animal Crazy. It’s written by Deputy Managing Editor Ann Hellmuth, who says she loves nature, animals and cute photos.

Click here to read Ann's post about what some animal welfare groups call “The Big Black Dog Syndrome:” How people are more likely to be afraid of large, dark-coated canines, meaning shelters and rescue groups have more trouble finding homes for those dogs.

It is a shame. I love black dogs they have this wild look which I guess is why they have this trouble adopting them out. It does not have anything to do with their personality so if you do see that black dog give him a break

You know, Anthony -- my first dog as an adult was a coal black Labrador retriever. He was bred as a hunting dog and he was HUGE, with an enormous chest, that gave him a very scary bark. The funny thing is that he wouldn't hurt a fly. My then-husband and I used to joke that if someone broke into our house, Jake would then help them carry everything outside and put it into the getaway car.
Oh, and I am posting now about this really cool black dog Web site that reader TJ tipped me to.
