Anyone that loves animals and considers them to be family members can understand. People wouldn't consider giving up their human family members if they fell on hard times,so why should they give up animal family members?
I think it's a great idea to give pet food to food pantries.

Hey John and all: Just so you know... many Meals on Wheels programs, including our own in Broward County, have offered a Meals for Pets component for years. Seniors and disabled people who get their meals this way also can request a once-monthly delivery of pet food. The organizers started the program because they found their clients were giving part of their meals to their companion animals, sometimes going hungry themselves. It's a great program that runs completely on volunteer delivery people and donations. I'll post a contact phone etc. when I get back in town. But in the meantime, see if you can look up "Broward Meals on Wheels" in the phone book.
