OTH's Nathan: Too Little, Too Late?
We're having trouble sympathizing with One Tree Hill's Nathan. Yeah, he got an awesome scholarship to Duke, and he has every right to be excited about it. But Haley's pregnant, and he can barely muster up a "Congratulations, honey," or "I love you," let alone a "We'll face this together." She told him the news -- and he ran to see RACHEL, of all people. Come on! Then he sees Dan, who of course plants evil ideas in his head, and by the time Nathan finally reconnects with Haley, he's already on the way to a press conference. Yeah, he did shape up at the press conference... but was it too little, too late?
Don't get us wrong -- we love Nathan, and he's stood by Haley during some tough times. But this might be the biggest deal they ever face, and it took him awhile to become the supportive husband Haley needs. What do you think -- was Nathan right to be distant, or does he need to shape up for Haley and their future child? And what's up with Rachel as his new BFF?

I love nathan for being so nice. He was a little late but he still git there. I hate Dan for wanting nathan to go to duke yeah its his dream and Haley chose her dream but if nathan goes then Nathan would end up like Dan and i think theat one dan is enough for Tree hill!!!

I think that what Nathan and haley have is real. She has already screwed it up once and I don't think Nathan will let that happen again. Their dreams may change a little bit, but they still have eachother. And I think some of you are forgetting that Haley left the tour before it was over to come home because she realized Nathan is more important. Also, Dan is a jerk he should just dig a big hole and never come out of it. What is he trying to make Nathan like him? We all know how well he turned out. Nathan a good one though, and I wish I was married to him. HaHa

Nathan was just scared. i mean he got offerd a scholarship and now haley tells him shes pregnant? i dont blame him, but im glad he shaped up just in time. and rachel should LEAVE tree hill and stay away from everyone. and dan, OH PLEASE! i can see right through him, he doesnt wanna be nice to karen and the baby, i bet hes gonna end up hurting her...my advice to karen is she stay the hell away from dan.

FIRST just let me say that this episode was GREAT!!!
Now onto the question:
I think that ANY boy his age would react that way because they're scared..better late than never is what i think...i mean what if he just never came around to the idea and did what dan did to karen..that would have sucked and there would be a good reason to be madd..but he didnt...he stepped up,was a man about it,and accepted it..i think he'll eventually be excited but as of now he has every right to be scared about the idea......I'm still a little iffy on the whole Rachel/Nathan relationship..cuz everyone knows that all she wants is sex...and we also know she almost has more issues than Peyton does...but i'm glad that she told him the truth about not seeing keith...becuz thats the only reason he was talking to her...i was proud of her for that..and come on how many times do you actually here someone say i was proud of rachel..not many...i was also happy that she finally really figured out that NATHAN DOES NOT WANT HER!!!that he'll be her friend..maybe..but nothing more..but like i said i think that nathan's behavior was totally acceptable..i just didnt like dan's..i mean haley goes and ask him to talk to him about it..and he takes advantage of the situation and decides to play mind games with himm...i hope dan gets everything he has coming to himm...even if he is being sweet to karen..which btw is kinda creeping me out but i semi like it...i dunno he has me both ways right now...but naley will figure it out..and they'll be the naley we all know and lovee(sorry for the ramblingg =])

I think Nate would have reacted better if Haley would have told him from the time she found out.. he had a right to be upset at her for keeping it for that long.. but he still did act like an ass.. but in the end he made up for it.. i think haley understood were he was coming from.. I Love Nate.. :)

I love my Nathan and Haley and I do not like it when someone (Rachel or anyone for that matter) is in their Kool-aid. Had a blubberfest at his moving press conference speech. Crying like a baby. I have a question. Rachel said something to Nathan about the baby at the press conference, and he looked like a light bulb just went on; but I didn't catch it because our cable had a glitch. Does anyone know was she said? I love the spiritual overtones of the episodes. And I just have to say Season 4 is rocking my OTH world! Keep up the excellent work!

I agree with Monica wrote in here. Nathan's 17, 18..it's a typical reaction for a boy of that age, Haley should have been honest from the jump with him...at least he came around and totally made up for being an ass, love that boy!

he was just scared and sursprised and Rachel was just trickin him to come over, but he did shape up at the end. He became the loving husband and soon to be loving father that we all kno he is

I can totally see where he was coming from...I mean, she didn't tell him for a few weeks and she should have...it is a lot for him to take in...and the only reason that he ran to Rachel was because he thought that she understood the Keith thing...don't be messing with my Jamesy now!

What Nathan did was expected. He is 17, 18 years old, he already expressed his grievances about not wanting a child before he played basketball in college. I can understand initially him being upset, but if he feels old enough and mature enough to be married he should be well aware of the consequences of sex. He proved his maturity at the press conference and he was really emotional. I think Nathan will make a great father! And I think he will accept his role and NOT want to be anything like Dan. What was disappointing was having to share this milestone and important episode for Nathan and Haley with Peyton's stalker storyline. Nathan and Haley deserved it this episode to focus on them!

Last night's episode was deffinitely the best of the season so far. At first when I saw Nathan's reaction to Haley's pregnancy I was a little worried for their relationship, but when he said what he did at the press conference I thought it was the sweetest thing ever and totally makes up for his earlier reaction. I think Haley and Nathan are going to be fine.

You know what!!! Nathan did the right thing, he didnt run off to Rachel because she lied to Nathan which made him feel better before he knew she lied... and he leaves when she tells him she lied. Also she was being nice to Nathan, shes the one that made him have a change of heart. Also she waited a couple of weeks to tell himshe was pregnant... HE DEFINITLY SHOULD HAVE WALKED OUT!!! Anyway im definitly for Naley, they are soooo cute.

I admit, for the first half of the episode I was pretty upset at the way Nathan was acting. But then I reminded myself that he's just a 17/18 year old boy and most boys that age would react like that. The press conference did make up for it but I still think that Nathan needs to step up a bit and may Haley lots and lots of attention. The way he's been acting these past few episodes has been a tad bit annoying and I can't wait until we hopefully see Nathan in overprotective mode for wife and his unborn child.

to begin with, the previous eppy was simply amazing! no words can barely describe how i felt about the whole eppy. and what make the whole eppy great was that there's no connection of all the major characters together. probably one or two, but one can observe the distinct individuality of each part of the whole storyline. what make it even better is how the writers managed to connect it from the past (lucas's thoughts of nathan being not his father and etc) to the present. of course, a drama will always be a drama.. but i have to say this - hats off to the group of people who made this show great. keep up the good work!
lastly, in order to response to the posting - it should not have been about nathan's reaction. it should have been about the audience's reaction towards the whole plot style. it is simply brilliant. :)

Last nights episode was great!! Don't be busting on Nathan. Yes, he didn't react right at first. But, he did step up to the plate at the press conf. That's more then what Dan did. Nathan will be O.K. He'll stand by Haley for the long haul!! They will get everything they want out of life as long as they stick together!!!! There dreams and there happy family!!!!! Great job last night!!!
