Supernatural: We're Avoiding Carnivals For Awhile
Ahh! Clowns! Why did it have to be freakin’ clowns? We may never go to the carnival again … although we will admit that it’s nice to have our fears vindicated.
We thought both of the guys totally rocked the acting tonight, with their different approaches to mourning. We totally buy that Sam would try to repair his relationship with his dad retroactively, and we’re guessing that whatever John told Dean last episode, it completely messed with his head. Daddy isn’t who he thought he was, and Dean’s not dealing well. Whatever it was, he’s not telling Sam, even when Sam asks flat-out if John said anything before he died. Curious.
But even with all the DaddyAngst, the guys has such great funny moments. We loved Sam’s discomfort with clowns, and Dean messing with him by making him sit in the clown chair. We liked how Ash broke expectations – genius mullet wearers unite! And finally, we adored Sam’s awkward exit when Jo was ready to hit on Dean. Smooth, man, very smooth.
We have to admit, however, that one of the most shocking moments was when Dean started beating up his beloved metallicar – that boy has some serious grieving to do, and he just doesn’t know how. This should get interesting.

I Love Dean and Jo, Can't wait to see more of them together

Wow!!! I loved this episode; then ending especially had me in shock and tears. Props to Jared and Jensen, they really pull me in to the scenes and I really feel for these characters, their pain and their grief all just seem so real when I'm watching. As for the new characters, I loved Ash, he seemed to have great chemistry with both the boys. I liked Ellen as well and could definely picture her as a mother-figure. I'm still ambivalent about Jo; I wouldn't doubt that she is a good hunter and could hold her own in a fight, but as for her potential as a love interest, particularly for Dean, I really didn't feel any chemistry between them. That said, it could be because Dean's characater isn't in the right place for a relationship right now, so I reserve final judgement until later.

Great episode. I liked Jo! I really did! I think she'll be great for the show! *nods* I said it... please don't stone me!
Sam with tears, Dean with a tear... I am loving the hurt! haha

Does anybody else think that Jo is John's daughter? Ellen had a strange look when Jo was hitting on Dean.

Hey, where's the props for a kick a episode of Supernatural last night?
Don't the Winchester boys rate a new entry?
Surely Jensen does for his dark and struggling portrayal of Dean last night. I mean, damn, the blood splattering on his face as he cut that "fang"'s head off....yikes.

Man I love this show. It just keeps getting better and better. Just one thing: Dean, dude, I love you but stop lying to your brother. It hurts you more than it does him.
SPN the best thing on the CW right now.

I'm of two minds about this episode. Love the brother interaction. The whole Dean meltdown with the Impala had me by the throat. Jensen is always such a talented actor and the story line really allows him to show his stuff and Jared just seems to me to get better and better. The clown was creepy, but was it just me that thought the story didn't have the punch it needed in killing off the evil clown? As to the new characters...seemed very forced and I was anti Jo the moment they had her be able to get the drop on Dean. I don't see chemistry between the two, but who knows. As to Ash and Ellen I'll just trust they'll get better. So far Bobby is the best re secondary characters, well him and THE DEMON of course.:)

So many Jo-haters. What's up with that? The girl had like maybe five lines. Give her chance why dontcha?

I loved this episode. Oh Dean! Oh Sam! Poor boys. I already miss Daddy Winchester too. Great performances by Jensen and Jared.
Didn't mind the new characters too much. I think all three have potential once they're fleshed out a little. And since I don't have a pathological aversion to a little romance for the brothers, I had no problem with Jo. I loved Dean's aborted knee-jerk response of hitting on a pretty girl. Since he couldn't go through with it, he was actually able to have a couple of "real" moments with her. I think it's sweet that the relationship is starting out with Jo appreciating the real Dean Winchester.
Seriously who wouldn't fall for him?
I'm glad Kripke is taking it slow with the new characters so we can have to time to get used to them.
That's two for two. Great way to start the season.

I didn't start watching this show to see another Buffy-wannabe. Kripke you dissapoint me. Dean deserves so much better than a chick who looks like his younger sister. She looks all of 15. Is this a CW choice of casting or Kripke's?
And someone feed her, please. Or are we in for another round of super-powered blonde chicks after all? Currently, all a decent demon would have to do is blow her over.

Jo...bleh. Don't like her. She looks like she's fifteen. I didn't like how quickly the clown thing ended either. It actually reminded me of "Bugs" (ew). Other than those two things, though, I thought the episode was amazing. Love the angst going on there and the role-change that seems to have happened between Dean and Sam. And the last scene with the Impala? Amazingly done by Jensen. He's done an outstanding job with this show. Sam's fear of clowns was also extremely entertaining.
Plus...
"I feel like a friggin soccer mom!"
Priceless.

I would have rathered they spent more time on the clown story and did away with the new characters altogether. The clown stuff wasn't nearly as creepy as I thought it would be and the resolution was pretty damned lame. They rushed through that stuff to give us Jo:/....and Ellen and Ash, who I didn't really have much of a problem with. Yet. We'll see where they go with them.
I, also, didn't like how quickly they trusted these people. I mean, they just handed over a year's worth of their dad's work, their dad who just died I might add, to people they know nothing about. Wuzzah? And, on that note, I don't like that they apparently aren't going to even have to actually hunt the demon now that they have Ash and his trusty computer program to alert them to where demon activity is kicking up.
Ugh, I'm getting a sinking feeling about my favorite show.
The awesome brotherly moments are only going to keep me watching for so long, if the rest of the show turns to shite.
Jo? Meh. She looks way too young and she points empty guns at intruders. All three characters are unoriginal cliches but I can see a point to both Ellen and Ash. Time will tell if they use them wisely or make them completely unbearably predictable. Jo, however, seems to have no real point other than clearly being there for Dean. Again, I say "meh".

Can the next epsiode featuring Jo address her issues with eating? How on earth is a girl *that* shape ever a decent demon hunter or whatever the show is calling her? Buffy had the powers of a Slayer going for her, but Jo looked like she had issues with the gun - she looked like a little girl who needed to be taught a lesson for playing with a dangerous weapon. I cannot for the life of me imagine Dean hooking up with a wisp of a creature that is Jo. He'd, I dunno, break her? She looks like she'd be his Lolita.

Supernatural is my one must-see television show every week because I really care about these characters. Dean and Sam are psychologically rich. Watching them deal with each other, and now trying in their very different ways to deal with the death of John, will keep me returning impatiently every week. This season is shaping up to be even better than season one. Thank you, Eric Kripke and company!

God that last scene with Dean beating the crap out of the Impala just about broke me. Amazing work by Jensen. Also awesome episode all around.

You know, after a long fight with a demon that can possess anyone, they trusted this new batch of complete strangers real quick.
The strangers: Ash is 2-dimensional, but maybe they'll give him some depth as time goes on. Ellen and her bar, meh, stock character, will be interesting to see future personality developments. Jo for a girl who's being hit on constantly, she sure cozies up to Dean quick. If there had been some plot or character development leading up to the connection that's there at the end, it would have been more believable. Except for that, I don't have a problem with Jo. She's competant, but not uber-competant.
I kind of wished the clown storyline would go away so they could stop rushing through the character development. It was like "clowns? what? yeah whatever, get back to the real story!" even though I was so hoping we'd get to see Dean throwing knives, because we know Jensen can. The writers are such teases!
The different ways of grieving and Dean with the secret he can't tell Sam curdling him inside were all awesomely acted. Jensen and Jared are fantastic.
The end of the episode shocked me, badly, with Dean beating on the car. Jensen made that very real. That scared me way more than the clown.

The clown part bored me. The rest was great.
Didn't mind Ellen and Ash but could do without Jo. She was pretty bland, in the small amount of time we saw her, but I don't see that changing anytime soon. I think Jensen/Dean had more chemistry with the reaper last week.

Oh the pain, the pain. Poor broken brothers - they need each other more than ever and they can't comfort each other. . not yet...maybe soon.
The ending - surprising and so heartachy - great job all around
