When Did Smallville Turn Into Bigville?

One more week until a new epi. We know it's hard. But your patience will be rewarded! We hear "Subterranean" will definitely continue the tradition of heart-stopping episodes so far this season.
But we were thinking. (Yes, we think! Oh, you're so funny haha.) Our kids certainly been growing up lately. Clark finally dealing with his destiny... Lana getting ready for motherhood... Lex becoming the evil man we came to know from the comics and the movies... and so on. To be honest, we sorta miss the kinder, gentler times when the only issues our characters had to deal with were the Freaks of the Week.
We sound like parents longing for the days when their children were young and innocent, don't we?
Do you miss the old days? Or do you like the more mature storylines? Which season or episode do you think was the turning point for the series? Or do you think it's still yet to come?
Comments
I think smallville used to be a great show. However, it seems that each season is the same thing with a twist. Lana and Clark. I am so over Lana. She is irelevant to the show at this point. I think her and clark should have got together a long time ago, so he could have dumped her by now. Lets face it Lana is always playing the victim and everybody is always coming to her aid like she is a princess. They make her out to be this good person who is just being manipulated. Clark needs to stop being a baby and grow up. I have to say that if the show continues being about Clarks obsession with LANA LANG, I will no longer watch. It is OLD ALREADY.

Lana and Clark belong together, but clark is too dumb to see it. Of course in the Clark ends up with Lois and Lana ends up with Pete so im ready to see what's happened

When Clark will get a more deepful and mature personality, the serie will get better.

i think that clark needs to go crazy like do something completly wack and have to pay the price and that it should lead to lois and clark getting together i just cant wait till hydro it should be awsome and really funny to watch i have seen some pics from it and it looks awesome

Reckoning ended the emotional connection between the series and their viewers. What is the point of watching the show to see what? the ending of the Clark and Lana relationship and the death of Pa Kent. People tuned in week after week because of the strong appeal of the Clark/Lana relationship and the special bond between Clark and his parents. We supported the show for over five years...and for what? to watch a sorry episode like Hypnotic. No one wants to see Lex with Lana or Lois doing anything other than get off the screen. We were avid Smallville fans before...but no more.

Smallville is meant to be a show about a young Clark Kent as he evolves into the hero that we all know and love. The mythos should be first priority, not the ships, although they do add some entertainment and fun to the show. More episodes
should be centered around Clark's abilities, the formation of the Justice League, and also the Lois-Clark and Lex-Clark relationships. I really like the fact that Lex is becoming more "evil" in Season 6, because that's how he was meant to be. I'm still waiting for more Clois. "Hydro" should be an exciting episode, because there's supposed to be a Clois kiss.
In a way, I feel somewhat bad for Al & Miles. They don't write the most terrific episodes, but the fans are pressuring them into making the show more ship-centered. Less Clana or Chlark means less viewers, and that means bad ratings. It's not really fair, but what can I say? People watch the show for their own reasons. I think that the shippers should learn to accept the fact that Lois and Clark are meant to be together, not Lana and Clark or Chloe and Clark. TPTB should be daring and try to get away from the ship-centered episodes, like "Static". Maybe it'll earn more fans who want to see Superman, not who Clark's dating.
Less Chlimmy, less Lexana, more Superman = better episodes!

Ok, ok, you guys are really putting Smallville down. Have a little faith in the show. It's a great show, and a great season. Every season's a little different from the next, but I'm diggin' it. I can't wait to see today's all new episode. We can on on about this all day. You guys still have your opions, but I truly feel it's a great show.
Try not to think so much, just enjoy it.

Thanks for posting that LanaLKent.
It's right to call that Bullseye. He was on target!
Posted by: Anonymous | December 6, 2006 10:21 AM
I agree that the shipper focus is not the fans fault because they're not the ones writing. Their reaction and what keeps them coming are the bones thrown at them. Genius Al Gough himself claimed creating new relationships and love triangles keep the show fresh, you know....Well, I guess he stumbled upon a hero show but created a soap instead.
I couldn't agree more with this guy:
http://www.411mania.com/movies/columns/48159/The-Bullseye-12.02.06:-Smallville.htm
Clearly not a shipper but someone who respects the Superman story.

Are you kidding me? Smallville is far from getting better. It's worse than before. Smallville had something great but now it lost it's spark
Posted by: Anonymous | December 5, 2006 2:04 PM
I agree that too much shipper concentration spoils the show. And it's not the fans fault..it's not our fault at all. Like someone said before, the writers are always throwing bones at all the shippers. Perhaps they feel that is the only way to keep fans. They feel that EVERY YEAR there MUST be some relationship drama, angst or foreshadowing to get people hyped up..and sometimes they concentrate more on this that the storyline!!!
I rest my case with the season 6 promos: triangles?..who cares about trianlges...give me a solid plot. Remember that Al said that Raya would be Clark's love interest this season?..How far off the mark was that!...The girl was picking out his baby blanket for goodness sake!...but yet, somewhere in the minds of TPTB they thought it would be good to promote Fallout that way.....Why?
I dont think fans should take any blame at all...no matter what ship. TPTB are at fault for throwing us all these patronizing bones, and getting people worked up about ships when the plot is falling behind sadly.
Second I do not agree that Lana and Chloe should be removed from the show to make it progress. The core four were what made this show as is, and not because we have the 3 future DP workers onboard means that everything and everyone else must be tossed aside like used meat. This is a show about Clark Kent/Superman yes, but this show will always concentrate on Clark Kent, not cape wearing Superman. And in one way or another, these 2 helped make Clark Kent what he is now.
They ALL have their place in making an impact on Clark's life whether in the present or future, and should not be discarded so easily. All the PTB need to do to make this story progress is to use their brains and give all characters good plots that have some connection to our resident hero Clark Kent.

Must be some conspiracy going on...
I honestly try to be diplomatic about my answers, but to hell with that. The last thing I ever want the show to do is to backtrack. I happen to like the fact that the show is moving along. Sure, I'm enjoying the Lexana because it was what I was rooting for ever since the beginning and throughout that 4.5-year mind-numbing cycle of Clana drama. Neither Clark nor Lana matured during that period. Now that they are on separate trajectories, they have become interesting individuals.
The appeal of the show, to me, happens to be Lex Luthor. It's not everyday you get to see a backstory to one of DC's infamous villains. Clark's story didn't interest me at all, although he is finally growing on me.
So, no, I don't miss the "old days", except for maybe S3.
Posted by: TRP | December 2, 2006 11:28 PM
Smallville has become too much about Clana and Chlark...
-------------------------------
This show has always been predominantly about Clana and Chlark ??? and also Clark and Lex....hence why many here miss the "good old days of Smallville"...
Anyway, I personally don't care about Lois one way or the other....I just miss the good ol' days of Smallville ...those episodes had a different feel to them than they have now...someone here mentioned "heart"...I think that is what it is...
I hate joining in on the bashing parade but I am also not liking this season that much...I really don't like the Lex/Lana storyline. It makes Lana look bad...I REALLY miss the "old" Lana Lang *sigh*
Posted by: Tim | December 2, 2006 2:10 PM
I think that the shippers are killing the show. Why does TPTB think nothing else but to keep throwing bones at shippers? This story is about Clark, not about "Who Clark dates?" Lana and Chloe are past stories, finish their arcs, let the story move on, why keep them in the story in form of Lexanas and Chimmy's. I see niether making an impact on Clark's future.
Be brave, take a bold step with your show before it becomes an irrecoverable disaster. Stop all the shipper crap, give Lana and Chloe respectable closures and bid them goodbye and focus on Clark Kent/Superman please!! That was what the show was about when it started, remember?
Posted by: Smallville | December 2, 2006 11:41 AM
Nope, Smallville shouldnt be about Clana, Chlark or Clois.it should be about Clark Kent...plain and simple.
Posted by: Anonymous | December 2, 2006 8:15 AM
first, I am glad that some fans see that it is not only "Chloe fans' that have an issue with Lois.."Lana fans" do too. I'm not saying it is right, or wrong, or justified or not...i'm just saying that not everyone thinks it is only a Chloe vs Lois thing...
------
Actually it is a shippers vs. Lois thing. Lana and Chloe fans dislike Lois Lane because she ended the possibilities of the story of Smallville ending with Clana or Chlark!
Otherwise, there are no issues with Lois's character, Lana's list of boyfriends is longer than Lois. Episodes like Unsafe and Hypnotic didn't involve Lois, they involved Clark.
What about Lexana sex in Whither or Chimmy makeout in the same episode?
Everyone's sins are forgiven but if Lois wears a backless gown, oh God, she is exposing her skin and luring in male audiences!
Smallville has become too much about Clana and Chlark, which is why there is senseless and biased bashing of Lois all the time, if you guys rise above your shippers you might see that a lot of interesting things from the comics are happening on Smallville and it is a great show.
Smallville is not just all about Clana and Chlark you know!
Posted by: Winchestergirl | December 2, 2006 7:52 AM
Hi Lana fans
Why do you guys dislike Lois and keep saying that she does not belong in Smallville, offcourse, she is a part of this story and so many fans love her, and she is not responsible for Clark and Lana breaking up, then why do you guys keep blaming her?
Look, even though I am a fan of Lois, I still like Lana, why can't Lana fans like Lois too? Just because Clark ends up with Lois in the story doesn't mean everyone who wants Clana to be together has to be so harsh to Lois, please let's be friends, stop all this hate.
Please, Clana fans had five seasons of Clana love, don't we deserve a glimpse of future too, okay, don't show Clois now, but alteast in the end of the series, please, I can wait. Please stop all the hate, please! let's all like everyone on the show....
Some of us love Lana, some love Chloe and some love Lois, so why bash each other's favorite stars? please lets stop this. I am tired of all these bashing posts now.
Please it is a request to everyone, I hope you guys consider it...

I haven't watched the show regularly in a long while, but watched bits of a couple episodes recently, and wondered when Clark's mom decided her son needs to develop a god-complex. The only times she and him are on screen together it seems like she's going on and on about how Clark's the saviour of the world. Yeah, he's a superhero, but it'd be nice if the writers had Clark be in his own show once in a while, being a superhero, instead of moping around the background about whatever soap-opera nonsense is going on. Like, "Oh, no, Lana has moved in with the future evil guy, and Clark has a freaking cold!" Yah. That's rivetting. *eyeroll*
If this series goes another season, I'll be quite shocked.
Posted by: Anonymous | December 2, 2006 3:15 AM
Oh! the envy against Lois!
In comics, all former Clark girls are jealous of Lois, including Lana, what's new?
Erica is great, and definitely the most talked about star on Smallville, funny thing is she gets only half the screentime of what Kristin and Allison get, but still, no one seems to stop talking about her, looks like there is nothing else left in Smallville to talk about!!
Keep up the great work Erica, for you are loved, you are loved more than you'll ever know!

first, I am glad that some fans see that it is not only "Chloe fans' that have an issue with Lois.."Lana fans" do too.

And those issues are "Smallville is about Clana not Clois, so Lois shouldn't be in Smallville"
Wow! Some issues Chloe and Lana fans have with Lois!

first, I am glad that some fans see that it is not only "Chloe fans' that have an issue with Lois.."Lana fans" do too. I'm not saying it is right, or wrong, or justified or not...i'm just saying that not everyone thinks it is only a Chloe vs Lois thing...
but besides that....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Al and Miles....PLEASE redeem your show!!! Do any of you or other PTB read these and other blogs????..do you guys know how much you are screwing fans over???? are you PURPOSEFULLY TRYING TO NOT have a season 7???
How are you gonna dig yourselves out of the Lana pregnancy disaster? Are you going to pull a miracle out of your butt?....if anything, i want to see how u do that! Were you smoking marijuana or drunk off of beer when u thought of that storyline???? did someone say that would be a good idea???
You want your characters to grow and progress, but that does not mean 19 year old's getting pregnant...or more cleavage and sweaty skin...or arching backs..please...mature your characters the intelligent and classy way...dont make your show cheap.

this is SMALLVILLE, the show about CLARK KENT, NOT SUPERMAN.
jeez, is it so hard to understand?
--------------
This is the most ridiculous thing to say, because Clark Kent is Superman and Smallville is about his journey towards becoming Superman. Clark Kent and Superman are not two different people, they are two names of the same man.
Therefore the story will progress towards Clark's future as Superman and Lois Lane is a part of Clark's future. Why is it so hard for Lana and Chloe fans to accept that Lois is as big a part of this story as Clark and her journey is also as important as Clark.
You guys want the story to stay where it was five years ago, just for the sake of 'Clana' or 'Chlark' but you forget that life itself is about progress, Smallville would have ended if it hadn't introduced new storylines and shown the same old recycled stories again and again.
From day one, everyone knew that Clark doesn't end up with Lana, he marries Lois, so she had to be in the story at some point.
Lana fans dislike Lois but there hasn't even been any romance between Clark and Lois yet, Clana didn't end because of Lois, it ended because it had to, whether Lois was in Smallville or not.
Chloe fans also keep critisizing and bashing Lois because they think that her presence took the attention away from Chloe or any chance Chloe had with Clark.
It seems like every Lana and Chloe fan is obsessed with Lois and nothing else on this show.
But ultimately, Smallville will become the story of Clark embracing his destiny and that destiny includes Lois Lane, like it or not!
If anything there is to complain about, it is Lex's characterization that has been destroyed because of Lexana.

Smallville sucks without Clana!

Lana getting pregnant with Lex's kid is not 'mature storyline'. It's disgusting! Lana making 180 degree turns every episode is not 'mature storyline'. It's poor writing.

"When Did Smallville Turn Into Bigville?"
Never :)

See for yourselves how this show has progressed in the last 3 (including the current one):
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/LanaLKent/SVratings.jpg
As your loyal viewers since the pilot ages, of course, they would like to see mature storylines but having a pregnancy storyline does not necessarily equate to mature. On the contrary, it's so juvenile. Smallville has become a soap opera and should change its timeslot to 4 in the afternoon.
I urge you to rethink the direction of this show. During the second half of Season 5 and first half of Season 6, you've only managed to alienate the viewers who got hook because of Seasons 1 and 2. All I'm saying is, make it right between Lana and Clark. I'd really like to see them bond to have a lasting friendship. Tell their story the way it should be told.
Posted by: LanaLKent | December 1, 2006 3:24 PM
Well, what can I say about season 6 of smallville...wait this is about smallville right? For a minute there I thought this was the one tree hill blog. I mean come one with Lana pregnant at 19? Could have fooled me! Season 6 has just been a complete dissapointment for me, it started towards the last arc of season 5. They made the biggest mistake by putting Lex and Lana together.
What they should have done was kept the first run of "reckoning" (Lana finding out Clarks secret ETC) there could have been so many possiblities with that story line, it would have actually made sense and developed the plot and the characters along at a faster pace. whatever. This show is dead to me. I think a better suited name would be Crapville.
Posted by: Michelle | December 1, 2006 2:32 PM
Yes, I miss the days when Lana was the sweet, brave and kind girl who used to love clark and not lex. I miss seeing clark and lana together. This season is just too hard to watch.
Posted by: Flo | December 1, 2006 2:31 PM
Hate the season!!
Hate Lex and Lana together.
Loved lana but she needs to grow up.
and like someone else stated this is about Clark kent not superman so no Clois is suppose to happen yet!
Posted by: debi | December 1, 2006 1:55 PM
I think season 6 has been great so far, but I'm not very picky. If it's entertaining, then I love it.
Posted by: Maria | December 1, 2006 1:07 PM
This season shouldn't be called Smallville. It should be renamed the Green Arrow and Lois show.
Posted by: anonymous | December 1, 2006 12:48 PM
I miss the days when lois wasn't on the show, when it was just clark and lana. Why is lois even in smallville? So that the producers can keep foreshadowing her future connection to clark or so that she could parade in skimpy clothes to draw more male audience?
Posted by: hazel | December 1, 2006 12:46 PM
I just want to say that this season, the producers of Smallville are doing an excellent job of pissing off and alienating many one-time fans who watched the show for Lana and clana. Keep it up. As long as your Lexana and Clois fans are happy, who cares about clana and lana fans, right?
Posted by: karen | December 1, 2006 12:33 PM
I definitely miss the old days of Smallville. The show has lost much of its charm and magic. Lana, whom I used to adore, has turned into someone I don't recognize or even care about anymore. I hardly see Clark even though the show is supposed to be about him.
I see a lot of Green Arrow and Lois but I didn't tune in for them.
Posted by: jess | December 1, 2006 12:15 PM
I can't believe there are people who actually like Lexana. I think it's so revolting and pathetic. It should stop already.
Posted by: anonymous | December 1, 2006 12:00 PM
I think Hypnotic was the turning point for Smallville because after that episode, it was downhill all the way.
Posted by: anonymous | December 1, 2006 11:56 AM
I love and miss the old seasons of Smallville, esp. seasons 1 and 2. Those were the good old days. This season is the worst one of all. I can't even bring myself to watch what is happening to Lana. The storylines sucks. The writers must be running out of ideas to come up with such crap.
Posted by: joe | December 1, 2006 11:52 AM
Why off course it will happen on the series, what is a Superman story without Lois and Clark falling in love?
--------------
Thats just the thing Clois fans dont get, this is SMALLVILLE, the show about CLARK KENT, NOT SUPERMAN.
jeez, is it so hard to understand?
Posted by: Anonymous | December 1, 2006 11:45 AM
There is no question about it...I miss the old days!!! To be honest Lex is the only one in the whole show that is following the storylines. Seriously...Lana never slept with Lex or had anything to do with him. Her one true love was Clark Kent. She was never pregnant with Lex's Child. When she did marry it was Pete Ross and he fathered her child not Lex!!!! She named the child Clark. Later they divorced. Al Gough and Miles Millar are destroying a show that up until the end of Reckoning had much promise and it rating were about to shoot through the roof, but they wanted to add their perverted take on this wonderful show and have alienated most of it's previous fans and anyone who knows the true mythos is APPALLED!!! This has become nothing but soap opera TRASH! Most of the current fans don't know the mythos or they wouldn't continue to watch it either.
To top it off the shows are becoming boring. Static was horrible! Clark has been relegated to the role of being a guest star. Lana has become a slut. This is pure nonsense. Not good television/entertainment.
So yes I do miss the old days when this show had more to offer in the true line of the Mythos. Maybe Gough/Mylar so read a Superman/Superboy comic book, novel or maybe see some of the Superman movies, so they can get a clue. They are not even close to the mythos and their rendition stinks. I can't wait to see how they screw up the new Spiderman. They should be ashamed of themselves. For the record...I have been reading Superman/Superboy comics since 1957...boys I know the Mythos and you are not even close. It's time to put this show out of its MISERY!!!I for one would rather see the show die then see these boys destroy the characters or the mythos any further!!!
Posted by: escout | December 1, 2006 11:24 AM
How can you not miss the old days?
It's an entirely different show. These characters don't even know themselves! At least Lana and Clark don't which is just sad. Lana has so much potential and now she's pregnant at 19. Rediculous. I really wanted her charcter to go somewhere in life and that did not include being Lex Luthor's arm candy.
And Clark! Would you just go after the girl already! You know it's not right! I'm very dissapointed in you! Both charcters are so immature acting. That is not growing up. That is avoidance.
All apeal of the show is gone without Clark and Lana. Can we just have a nice, sweet, simple loft scene?
Posted by: Grace | December 1, 2006 11:23 AM
"Smallville started to suck the day they decided to break up clark and lana and the ratings prove it.."
Rockamaniac, the show is doing just fine and you would agree that it would have been boring to stick to the same storyline forever. Life is about progress, and Superman is an already laid out story, Clark and Lana don't end up together, so sooner or later, that had to happen in the story.
You can still enjoy the show, there are so many other things to like, don't you love the maturing Clark and Lana?
Posted by: Chimmyrocks | December 1, 2006 10:52 AM
Yes,Clois with eventually happen in the future but not now and not on the series.
---
Why off course it will happen on the series, what is a Superman story without Lois and Clark falling in love?
Posted by: Winchestergirl | December 1, 2006 9:42 AM
Um, why can't Lana and Chloe fans do without Lois hate remarks on any blog?
Posted by: Zulu | December 1, 2006 9:38 AM
Smallville has never been better than it is now, yes there are mediocre episodes like Whither and to some extent Static, but still the show rocks.
I stopped watching due to the constant storylines in S3, but came back after Erica Durance joined the cast, now I watch Smallville for Tom and Erica, I just wish they bring her in all episodes.
To me, Lois and Clark are the Elizabeth and Darcy of Smallville, they dislike each other without knowing the actual truth about each other. They are provoked by each other, annoyed by each other, and yet, deep down they have love for each other. It is just like destiny, you can't avoid it.
I would love if Al Miles focus on these two characters and Lex offcourse, for they are the future. Lana was Clark's past, pairing her with Lex is a good way to keep her woven into the story but you could've kept the pregnancy thing away. It is a bit too much!
Anyways, I love Smallville, love Clark, love Lois and love, love, love Clois. I just hope that Hydro starts their journey towards future!

Smallville started to suck the day they decided to break up clark and lana and the ratings prove it.. i've lost all interest in smallville.. everyone knows its not the show they fell in love with.. a new management/producing team is needed to restore the balance.. ALMILES should quit already they speak from their butts.
Posted by: ROCKAMANIAC | December 1, 2006 9:24 AM
why is this show called smallville anymore? they should just admit that the show is old and empasize the superman storylines. why stay in smallville when you can move to metropolis?
--------
Logically ang technically, you are right, but I think 'Smallville' is this show's identity, it is the title that made the show a huge hit, so changing that would be like giving up your identity.
However, we do know that this is a Superman show and sooner or later, it shifts entirely to Metropolis, so the show can do that, and still be called Smallville, from where it began.
Posted by: Hammad Ali | December 1, 2006 8:43 AM
S1 was by far, the best season on SV. It was IMO the only time when this show really felt like a young Clark kent trying to find his place in the world, as his journey is suppose to be (from the mytho's). Clark's relationships/friendships seemed more REALISTIC and BEAUTIFUL back then as well. He and Lana actually talked; encouraged and confided in each other; he and Chloe were also very close and Clark seemed to be more involved in investigating things with her *without her always saving the day* back then. Clark's family interaction with the Kents were the best parts of the show and of course...the Clex and Lex/Lionel scenes were awesome and full of humor and intelligence (the best quotes and phrases on the series). I also liked S2 and 3, because life became darker for Clark; Lex and Lana as well as the other characters (Chloe;Martha;Lionel and Jonathan) and just like Jor-el said "the lessons we learn from pain, are the ones that make us the strongest" << so true. However, S4 completely screwed up the flow of the show. It shifted from Smallville to Metropolis when they introduced Lois Lane (and even Jason Teague). I enjoyed her GUEST APPEARANCE in S4 (and even a few of the episodes in S4 in general), but keeping her on the show was a HUGE mistake by Al/Miles IMHO. As wonderful as her character is, it is damn near IMPOSSIPLE to have 2 LEADING LADIES in Superman's life on one show every week. No other Superman version has EVER done this, BECAUSE they KNOW it DOESN'T WORK. The leading Lady in this chapter of Clarks life is suppose to be Lana Lang(according to all version of the sup's story), yet with Lois around...Lana's portrayal and even depiction and GROWTH on screen has been overlooked and rather tainted BECAUSE of Miss Lane and the forshadowing of her future at the DP and with the future Superman.(did you hear that she's being corrupted by Lex;knocked up by Lex and getting married to him this season?). Chloe sullivan has also been afftected by her presence on the show. In order to accomidate Miss Lane, the writers decided back in S4 to give Chloe the role that Lana Lang is suppose to have (with Clark) in this version. Now with this change in the story, Lana will no longer have the chance to be as close and influential to Clark (in a POSITIVE WAY) BECAUSE of Chloe's new role and Lois's presence in the seriece which is NOW the journalist aspect that formerly belonged to Chloe Sullivan *only*.
We are in the 6th year of the show with possibly one more season/yr to go and Lana Lang has YET to learn the truth about Clark or even spend ANGST FREE time with him because of all the "Lois is destined to with Clark" talk, day in and day out. Yes,Clois with eventually happen in the future but not now and not on the series. Smallville is the time for the audience to see why Lana Lang and even Chloe Sullivan are EQUALLY as loyal and understanding of Clark/Superman for all the days of his life and we have not seen any signs of that yet. Too much attention is being focused on the future, instead of the HERE and NOW of Clark's journey and how HE GET'S THERE.
This show does not feel the same anymore and it becomes obvious when the star of the show (Tom Welling/Clark)is no more than a guest star on the series. It becomes obvious when the morals and values from S1-3 of this show no longer exist in order to allow Erica Durance (Lois Lane) to practically wear nothing at all when ever you see her on screen while bringing in more skin *with other characters) and gimmicks to attract viewers which is not clever or creative at all. It becomes obvious when the Green Arrow;Lex Luthor and the JLA are the high lights of CLARK'S STORY when HE should be.
Bring back the old days Al/Miles. I don't see why we can't have a mixture of both, with the focus being on the MAIN character and supporting characters that are SUPPOSE to be impacting Clark's journey to BECOMING superman in his past. (ie:Lex;Lana;Chloe;Lionel and Martha) with minimal focus on Lois Lane's journey;Green Arrow's journey and the other FUTURE characters who should only be making APPEARANCES every now and then.
Smallville has so much potential to be great again, if the creators of the show would just follow the recipe that made it so popular to begin with.

do i miss the old days of sv(YES)i haven't watch this show this season(thank god)reading about the episode that have already been air give me enough to continue to stay away, beside after the hypo-crap eipsode(clana breaking up)that was it for me.after all these years that was the clana fans bittersweet ending(GEEZ THANKS)yes i would love to see my old sv back(clark/lana/lex/pakent/chloe/and makent)this show would have never made it this far without them, and now the only thing i read about this days,is the raise of a 70yr old story(lois/clark)i agree with who ever said why bother calling this show smallvile anymore, just rename it metropolis.because smallville i use to know is long gone.

Smallville is much better now, the freak of the week stories had become monotonous. Chloe's constant computer babbling and Lana's whining was unbearable. The focus of the story has shifted to making Clark Superman and enhancing Lois's role on the show and I love S6 because of that. I hope Lexana ends soon because I don't want to see Lex as a Lana boyfriend and nothing else.

First seasons were great, S1 is definitely a classic, but I love Smallville more now. Clana was a sweet relationship but I always knew Clark ends up with Lois and I was very excited when Erica joined the show as Lois, but sadly, the writers haven't shown Clark and Lois as a couple like they are in comics. Fine they are friends but I want them to be more than friends.
I love the new storylines like Lois writing for the newspaper and Clark planning to go for the training. Jimmy is very cute, I love him so much, and Chloe looks very nice with him. I love Chloe's wardrobe this season.
Lex is not evil as he used to be in S4, i want him to be like that.
I have loved Smallville's every season, now even more, the things I wait for is that Clark and Lois join Daily Planet and start dating.

While I have enjoyed certain aspects of matuation process for some of the characters, overall I can't help but think this show has lost a lot of its heart along the way. No matter what was going on in seasons 1-4. No matter how dark. There was a sense of heart there. Family, friends, community. Just...heart. Can't think of a better word. Aside from occasionally capturing that in a Clark/Martha scene, the show really doesn't have that anymore. Instead a cohesive show centered on Clark, it now seems more segmented. Random scenes, stories going on all over the place, characters having absolutely no connection with other characters. I don't enjoy it as much.
What has been good is the development of Clark, though I don't believe him acception his heritage and destiny should have to go hand-in-hand with him being alone and miserable all the time.
I enjoy seeing Lois on a journalistic career path, and I can't wait to see Chloe attack the Level 33.1 story.
Oliver? Eh, I don't watch this show for GreenArrowVille.
On the down side, Lex's character desperately needs to be ramped up. This romance with Lana has positively sapped this character of charisma. He's cringeworthy as he expresses his devotion to Lana endlessly. Drop the romantic schmoopy stuff, and give us some Evil Mastermind Lex. And for Petes Sakes, stop having him throw Lana in Clark's face like an adolescent teenage girl. And it would be nice if he remembered that he was obsessed with finding out Clark's secret. God, Lexana has made him dumb.
Lana? Yeah, her whole storyline has been one disaster after another. It just feels like no one knows what to do with her, so they keep giving her a new love interest and reinventing the wheel. Maybe its time for Lana to make a graceful exit from the show?

I Hate this season! It's been the worst.
lexana needs to breakup and interact with other people.
Lex needs to be evil and not lovey dovey.
LANA NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO BE ALONE.
Clark and Lana needs to interact more!!!

I haven't been watching but i've read what's going on and Lana pregnant? wow!! now that's nasty writting. If they want a mature season there are other ways to pull it off than a pregnancy storyline.
when the show stops focusing on Lex luther and start's focusing on Clark Kent i'll start rooting for the show again and maybe actually watch again.
They need to get Lana away from that psyco Lex and Lois needs to go on somewhere prefarably somewhere far away from smallville! for another five more years she's not needed in smallville.

YES!!!!!!! I definately miss the old days of Smallville...to be honest, I am mainly watching the 'good old days of Smallville' in the form of repeats that air on HDTV network...I haven't seen many of the new episodes of this season (and I don't think I ever want to)...It just feels and looks like a completely different show...Smallville used to be "FUN" now it is too depressing and quite sad. I agree with many, that I absolutely HATE what they have done to Lana's character...making her be pregnant with the evil villain's child...ugh disgusting!! She is my favorite character and it is quite depressing seeing how she is being depicted now...especially when I look back at the earlier seasons of Smallville...VERY SAD!!

I definitely miss Clark and Lana. It does not necessarily have to be the romanticism of the relationship but the comfort and chemistry on screen. There's just too little screentime between Tom and Kristin. Also, the storylines and consistency have been very disappointing. Don't pat yourselves on the back thinking that Lana's motherhood is a great thing. She's just finished highschool and not even through college yet. What kind of example are you showing to your young viewers? You think that your main viewers are mature people who grew up with Superman? Think again, these people who grew up with Superman were the first ones who got turned off when the direction of the show has swerved too far off from the mythology. Just read the threads of your blog and message boards and see the demographics of your viewers. A lot with immature comments on Lana and Lexana being such a great thing. So, think again, what kind of example you're giving to your young and sometimes not-so-mature viewers? I'm not even a parent yet I feel indignant with Lana's storyline, which I think is the worst of all the seasons.

I like where the show is going. The charecters are not the same as they were in the earlier days because when the show began, they were in their mid-teens, and you really can't go back to that. They are adults now, and your wants, needs and how you deal with situations as a person in your late teens and early twenties is much different then your wants, needs, and how you deal with situations when you were a young teenager. I can understand missing the old days and wanting to go back to them in the show, but if you go back to that, you are taking away from the entire progression of the charecters that you have created in this show.

I miss Clark and Lana. That sweet, gentle relationship is gone. Now we have a lot more apathy and disappointment.
Posted by: L Murasaki | November 30, 2006 5:46 PM
This season is HORRIBLE. The Lex/Lana storyle is the most degrading thing they could ever do to Lanas character, and they just are the worst couple I've ever seen on TV. The fundation for that relationship is non-existent and I despise it.
I miss the old Smallville, and most of all I miss the show when there was no Super-Chloe! thinking for Clark, No Clark/Lois foreshadowing, or the prospect of them being a couple, Im sorry but GAG to that relationship, It has absolutely nothing to do with Smallville.
And most of all, I miss Clark and Lana. Theyre the heart of the show, and the reason I started watching. The chemistry between Tom and Kristin is going to waste, and its SUCH an amazing chemistry, they light up the screen when theyre together.
I miss Clana A LOT, they need to get them back together asap. Without them really, there isnt anything I look forward to every Thursday.
Season 2 still to this day it's the best season of Smallville.

P.S. I loved episodes: Pilot, Red, Rosetta, Calling, Exodus, Exile, Phoenix, Crusade, commencement, Arrival, Mortal, Hidden, Solitude...and thats it. A lot of the episodes in the first 2 seasons...and a few episodes in the last 3 seasons.

I do miss the old days, but I would want more mature storylines.
I like that Clark is moving towards his destiny. He's growing up, but I really dont like Lans storyline. Lana getting ready for mother hood is defenelty not a mature storyline for her character. If anything it makes her look like, an idiot who got pregnant with the villian's baby. I see everyone but Lan moving towards their destinies. Clark Lois, and Lex. But Lana?..Nope.
In the beginning of this season, I was reallt enjoying Lana's role. She had her own agenda. Now shes...Lex's arm candy. Its sickening. I dont care if shes with Clark or any other guy. ALthought, I would like it to be Clark....I just want her relationship with Lex, to end. It makes her look anything but mature. She's needy...and pregnant.
So, far, Im liking that Clark's growing up,Lex is...well, I guees his becoming more of a villian. but Im TIRED of "poor wooby Lex" episodes. No one should feel sorry for him anymore. Is he evil or not?...Lois, is also taking a step towards the future..and thats it. Three of the iconic characters of this stiry are doing alright. The fourth one,Lana needs to end her relationship with Lex, ASAP. Preparing for motherhood, with the villian's baby noless, does not suit her.

Earlier seasons rocked waaaayyyy more than this season. Its disapointing the type of storylines being followed this season.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 30, 2006 2:04 PM
My favourite seasons are still 1 through 3, I also loved the latter part of season 4 from Sacred onwards and early season 5 up until Lockdown. IMO the show hasn't been as must-see or entertaining for me since Reckoning.
This season hasn't thrilled me, there's been hardly any heart-stopping moments but I have enjoyed a few things. I really like the relationships between Chloe and Jimmy and Lois and Oliver. I am again liking the scenes between Clark and Martha, I just love the mother-son chemistry between Annette and Tom. I have really loved the episodes, Zod, Fallout and Rage but there have been some stinkers, Static and Wither immediately come to mind.
I will say that although Clark may be accepting his destiny i'm not seeing the Lex from the comics or movies on my screen. Unless that Lex was a love-sick fool who only seems to enjoy rubbing his relationship with Lana in Clark's face. As well as telling her he wuvs her so much. He is pathetic right now and I can't take his role as villain seriously because he's not acting like a villian. I'm sure in Justice he'll be the Lex from the comics but I want to see more bad Lex for an extended period of time.
Lana's character is a mess. I can't take anything she says seriously because the following episode she's doing a 180 and contradicting what she said the episode before. She's been written badly in seasons past but this season takes the cake.
Character development has been at its weakest this season. Lex isn't as evil as he should be, Lana makes no sense but at least Clark is less of the relentless hero of season's past. So i'll give the writers props because at least he has acknowledged that he has to accept his destiny. Its just too bad he's taken a back seat to Lexanaville and Greenarrowville this season.
If this stupid baby and probable engagement storyline wasn't happening i'd actually be looking forward to the second half of the season more. The Lexana soap opera is incredibly boring and does nothing for either character. The sooner that relationship ends the better.
I miss how this this show used to be, I miss how well the characters used to be written. This season has had way too much Lexana, too little focus on Clark, the Green Arrow storyline hogging most of the episodes he's in and the show becomes more like a soap opera each week. It doesn't compare to my favourite season which is season 2 or the great start of season 5.

It is difficult to pick out one favorite season of Smallville, I love every episode (Well offcourse, you can cross Craving, Reaper, Dichotic, Magnetic, Scare, Blank, Ageless, Thirst and the recent Whither) but I've loved Smallville after Clark starting responding to Jor-El instead of running away. Like for example in Sacred, Commencement, Arrival and Zod, etc.
Also I love the fact that he is more and more becoming Superman like, i loved his decision in Static when he went to save the people who were dying because of the Zoner.
Lex is becoming weak, I don't mind Lexana but is Lana the only thing in Lex's life? I want him to be like Kevin Spacey's mean Lex Luthor, but I know he will be.
And I want Lois to act more like the Teri Hatcher Lois as Teri is my favorite Lois of all times, I love Erica Durance no doubt, and Tom and Erica have wonderful chemistry, but sometimes, Lois gets too stubborn, now I know she is supposed to be like that, but the writers should show her vulnerable side too.
I would love to see Clark, Lois and Lex moving towards the future and how long will Clark stay single? Make him happy forever by bringing Clark and Lois together, they'd look so cute, she will help him become more confident and Clark will help Lois become more subtle and show her caring side, which she keeps hidden due to her stormy relation with her father and sister.
I haven't been a great fan of Lana though, but I love Chloe and I am so glad that she is with Jimmy Olsen this season, she finally has a cute boyfriend and she loves him instead of lamenting over Clark. I wish her character in comics is shown to be with Jimmy too, or with some superhero, like Bruce Wayne or Oliver Queen.
I was a great fan of Chlo-Lo in S4 and S5 but now it seems to be missing, I so wish it comes back, I want the cousins to write a story together. Let them work on Level 33.1 together, that would be great!

The only thing I miss from the old days is Chlex interaction but besides that... the show is so much better now, especially with Lois around.
And I'm excepting to see more friendship and of course some jealous between Clark towards to Lois and more scenes about their futures:
Lois became a DP reporter, Clark became the superhero and Lex became the evil criminal mind. m:)

Definitely Clark has come a long way since the first episode aired, he has bravely faced so many hardships, the most painful offcourse, loosing his father, yet, all these tests have made him more stronger.
From the shy high school boy and the protected son, he has turned into a young man who now makes very complex decisions about life and his journey has been excellently shown.
Smallville is the most beautiful incarnation of Superman according to me.
I love Clark this season, his father's death has definitely made him grave, but other than that, he has become a strong and mature young man.
I have loved Lois since day one, in season 6, I love her more. She has finally stepped into journalism and I love the way she struggles for her stories.
Letting her begin her career from Inquisitor was very realistic, I can't wait to see how she journeys from this to join the Daily Planet and become the famous journalist.
Season 6 has been great so far, and the spoilers are very promising.
I'd love if the focus of the second season is on developing Clark/Lex rift. I think Level 33.1 might be a great twist. I would also love to see how Lois gets involved in this and the comic book trio of Clark/Lois/Lex forms.
Also, bringing Perry White in S3, and now Jimmy Olsen have been so much fun. I can't wait to see how Lois takes Jimmy's help for her GA story.
I am eagerly waiting for Clark's reaction to Lana's pregnancy, because it will be a great turn in his life, not to mention kissing his future wife Lois Lane for the first time.
I hope these scenes play out as well as we expect them to.
Last but not the least, S6 has been great because of Oliver Queen too.

I don't really miss the way the show used to be. Although, I don't think it's completely changed from what it used to be. I just think it's just grown and developed over the years. And that's a good thing. Who wants to watch a stagnant show that's completely repetative? In fact, I stopped watching in season 3, because the show hadn't really moved beyond the first 2 seasons & it was getting boring to watch the same plots every week.
Season 4 changed that. I decided to try it out again when they said they were bringing Lois Lane into the show & it became must-see TV for me again. There are, of course, still some weak episodes here & there. But every show on TV has that issue.
For the most part, I've loved the changes that have taken place since season 4. Chloe finding out Clark's secret (and him finding out she knew) really opened up their relationship and dynamic on the show. Lex and Lana getting together has really made me appreciate Lana a lot more. I think that the addition of Oliver to the cast has been great & helped keep the show fresh and entertaining. And, of course, I've felt that Lois's character has been a breath of fresh air since the first episode she appeared in. She's my favorite part of the show.
I would say that there are only one thing I want back from the earlier seasons: it was a mistake to kill off Jonathan. I miss him. I felt that he grounded Clark quite a bit & I didn't think his death was really necessary here. In fact, the whole Mionel thing is quite creepy & I feel that it's really out of character for Martha.
So, that would be the only thing that makes me miss the old seasons. Jonathan Kent's presence in "SV".
Posted by: sana | November 30, 2006 9:13 AM
"Subterranean" will definitely continue the tradition of heart-stopping episodes so far this season.
Whoa, did I miss something? When were those?
Well, my heart almost stopped from laughter when Kristin Kreuk was desperately trying to emote on 6.08 Static, but I don't think that we can count that.
The focus of the Chlark vs. Lexana dynamic is one of the things that has really excited me about the show. It's been set up since S1 and it's been fun to see it develop, no matter how messy or complicated it might get :)
YES! Oh, I have to agree with this! With the spoilers for the latter half of the season, I'm trying to be optimistic about the storylines *especially* with Chlark versus Lexana. That would be worth tuning in for every week. Especially since Lana is completely with Lex now.
CHlark vs Lexana? I get the Lexana part, but... CHlark??? Versus Lexana?
There were spoilers about that?? Did I miss something? How will Chloe be involved in that? She's Lana's friend and if you're talking about romantic Chlark, then I'm sure there have been no spoiler indicating anything related to that.
If you say CLARK vs Lexana then it would make more sense but still, even then there's not much going on uptil now. And I'm glad. I'm just afraid that the whole baby and marriage story will get Clark involved and I just hope it has the opposite affect on him. He needs to get over Lana and move on to more important things.
And I loved the earlier seasons. Especially 2 and 3. Four had some great stuff with Lois Lane in the mix and Clark's journey to find the stones. I'm glad that Smallville is moving forward and although I loved for example, how they handled the season 3 story line, I'm enjoying the development of the later seasons. I do have my complaints but on the whole, I'm happy and I'm looking forward to the rest of this season and a 7th season after it.
Posted by: B2b_I | November 30, 2006 7:05 AM
Every season of Smallville is a classic no doubt, yes we do have our issues with scripts or characters, but hey, that is what makes our show fun, to talk about it, to comment on it!
Smallville is Clark's journey about maturing and embracing future, so I like his growing up and accepting his destiny, I like that Lex is becoming an evil man and Lois Lane is also on the show, and moving towards her future.
I love SV more now than I ever did!
Posted by: Lillie | November 30, 2006 2:56 AM
S4-S6 are definitely my favorites, Smallville was never this vibrant and wonderful without Lois Lane...
But Hothead, Tempest, Red, Exile, Pheonex, Covenant, Memoria, Talisman, Prodigal, Relic all are my personal favorites.
I think Clark's growing up with his childhood sweetheart Lana and his best friends Lex and Chloe laid wonderful foundation for this story. I loved the Clark/Lex friendship, even knowing it won't last forever. Chloe-Clark friendship I still adore.
I think, now when Clark's relationship with Lois will be shown, the fans would be able to diffrentiate between the two relationships to see why Clark ended up with Lois and why things never worked with Lana. Also by showing Lexana, S6 showed the complexity that Lana and Lex have and why even though they suit each other, might not end up being together forever.
I am excited about the Lois/Jimmy working together spoilers. It is great, Lois worked with Jimmy in Daily Planet, I feel this is a setup to bring her to Daily Planet.
Can't wait for more Smallville!

Oh, I love all SV seasons equally, but I like the mature S6 storylines more. I love nothing more than the addition of Erica Durance to the story. Now, when I see the first three seasons, I feel somthing is missing. I look at various scenes and try to visualize what they would've looked like if Lois Lane were here.
The spoilers for S6 later half are very encouraging, specially the Hydro spoiler which might trigger some sparks between Superman and his future leading lady, Ms. Lane.
I equally love the shy highschool Clark Kent. I was never a fan of Clana but I did enjoy their dynamics, specially in season 2. Season 3 became more angst filled.
I am loving Smallville this season, specially with the introduction of Oliver, his interactions with Clark, Lois and Lex, and offcourse, our very own Jimmy Olsen.
I wasn't too optimistic about Lexana though, but now I like it too. And not to mention that Chimmy rocks!
Posted by: ClarkSuperman | November 30, 2006 2:44 AM
Definitely first and second seasons rocked, but the later seasons are no less entertaining than the previous ones.
I think Lois Lane's introduction which is offcourse an essential part of the mythos, has brought so much more quality to the show.
I was a fan of Clark and Chloe, the way they worked together was cute in high school, but I must say, I have enjoyed Clark/Lois dynamics more than any other relation on the show.
What makes them more interesting is that we know that they will end up working with each other in DP, yet when they are together in SV, their relationship is so much different and fun to watch.
I think Smallville was always great, but it became the best after season 4!

I definitely have enjoyed the more complex and maturing storylines in S6 and look forward the second half with Level 33.1, Clark getting closer to accepting his destiny, Lex truly embracing his darker self, Lana (I'm assuming) joining in the Luthor ideologies of secrecy and intrigue, while Chloe helps Clark figure things out and investigates Lex.

Season 1 definitely was great. But I think each season has had it's merits. And flaws. I try to take all of it in stride, the good with the bad. This season has a lot of great stuff going for it, and ideally I'd do away with the flaws, but what can you do? Lol. I just try to still enjoy the show. I think the minute you stop enjoying it and it only becomes a task watching it, you should stop watching.

Well yeah I think this should be called already Metropolis...nobody hangs out in Smallville anymore
Posted by: Maria Gabriela | November 29, 2006 4:34 PM
I am yet to be convinced that Season 6 will be better than season 5. Season 5 is still my best. In my opinion, season six has a long way to go for me to believe that it will be better than 5.
I like the more maturing storylines (except for baby stories)...the Freak Of The Week can still make a guest appearance inbetween episodes..but I like the Zoners more. A good mix of FOTW and Zoners works for me.
Nah, I dont want kinder, gentler times. I want more episodes like Reunion where boys get run over by buses, swords fall and stab stupid preppy men...and Static..where gruesome body parts are lying around. Hehee...I love that!
Dont want them to be young and innocent anymore either. They LOOK more mature, and they are..times of innocence and cuteness are done! HOORAY!
When I think more maturing story lines i think:
1)Lex becoming evil..REALLY..and not just fighting with Clark about Lana. I want him to be sinister, malicious, deceitful and downright freaking scary! In fact, I want my dreams to be filled with scary nightmares about evil Lex! :)
2)Clark using all the powers he has some more. I want some situations/villians/Zoners that CHALLENGE him...make him have a good fight where he has to use combinations of his powers to succeed. Also want the return of Jor-El. He has alot to offer and makes a good storyline..
3) Maturing relationships...and I dont mean romance at all. I want this season to ignore who should be with who and concentrate on building solid friendships or developing already existing friendships some more...Clark/Lana, Clark/Chloe, Clark/Lois, Chloe/Lois/Lana....hmmm..i guess I can throw Jimmy in the mix there too! :) Show real, mature friendships that are two sided, and contain more than who is saving who. What do all these characters do in their spare time?
4) As much as Clark matures, I want him to smile some more and loosen up a bit this season too.
I think all these things contribute to a more mature show!
(and to be totally IMMATURE after I have talked about being mature..I want Clark with his shirt off!! PLEASE!!! lol)

why is this show called smallville anymore? they should just admit that the show is old and empasize the superman storylines. why stay in smallville when you can move to metropolis?
