Amy Sherman-Palladino Won't Watch Gilmore Girls

Amy Sherman-Palladino, the chatty, no-holds-barred creator of Gilmore Girls, dished to TVGuide.com about her new FOX comedy.

Of course, what we really wanted to know was what Ms. S-P thinks of Gilmore's Season 7. Certainly she'd have an opinion on Lorelai and Christopher: The Wedding. But she claims she's not watching! We find it hard to believe. How could she resist seeing what the new crew did to her baby?

Regardless of whether or not Amy's tuning in, we found her good-riddance-to-Gilmore comments to Ausiello a little disrespectful to the show (comments like "All those suckers can bite my ass, ladies and gentlemen.") . Hello -- it's not like the series is over. There are still fans watching, and to us, the characters are still real, alive and well. Show a lil' respect, Amy!

Do y'all agree?

i really think that dave rosenthal did all he could to make the show better.

I actually liked the seventh season and the finale was nice.. it's not palladino but it's still a great ending.. i loved the episode with the rocket (: and rory and lorelai doing sports for the first time!

i love the show and i think that even though palladino left it continues being beautiful.. rory grew up to become the journalist she wished to be and lorelai and luke got back together!!

i also think that amy should be more respectful to the people who are sticking for the show and to the network (even though they treated her badly) it's business, and the rumors say that also the actor couldn't do the show for more years :S so even if the network had said yes the actors would've said no.

In her place i would've wanted to finish what i started, that's why i'm a little disappointed in her.. even though you don't get to finish it at the pace you wanted it, i would've liked to see my name in that last episode as in the first one ):

I love Gilmore Girls, but I just didn't feel it for the 7th season. I think that Rory and Jess should've ended up together and there was so many other things left hanging... like did Lorelai and Luke ever get married? ...The show isn't the same without the Palladinos! :-(

People apparently didn’t like the ending of the six season of GG. However I think Amy was going in a different direction that the new writers took. By the way I think the last season was horrible. Luke and Lore’s weren’t supposed to be together. Rory and Logan weren’t going to end up together ether.

No one knows what happened between the network and Amy, but the majority of the actors sided with Amy so that specs volumes of the situation. Hell all the actors are on board for a GG movie but only if Amy writes it. So take that into consideration.

p.s. The only ending that would make cense to me is the only constant factor in the show since season two, Rory’s constant encounters with Jess. Jess becomes a big time writer, Rory a good reporter, and in the end the perfect couple. There’s your wedding and Luke finally forgives Lorelai at the wedding. Hell it took him 6 years to forgive Rachel, what makes Lorelai so special. What she did was way worst than any thing Rachel did. So there you go.

Dammit, the seventh season was so bad confronted to the others that I WISH I dind't watched it too!!

The 7th season was terrible. It was poorly written & I've read so many terrible reviews.

In regards to Amy & Dan--what happened w/them leaving is between the network and them. Viewers can't possibly know everything that happened behind the scenes.

Quite personally, I don't care...I think Amy can say whatever she pleases because 1, She's not envolved anymore and 2, She still freaking rocks.

I agree with the post that said the lighting on the current show looks cheap. And Lorelei used to look stunning. Now, her hair looks greasy and unkempt and her wardrobe bargain basement and ill-fitting. In short, the overall production values are low-budget.

I love Amy Sherman Palladino's work, she's amazing. I love Gilmore Girls and its wit and humor, it makes any day better. I think Palladino should of stayed for the 7th season to end it out, i would of loved to get her ending of the show!

I want the original writers back on the Gilmore Girls. She was sassy and snappy and made the show fatastic. Now its kind of blah.

The show is what it is now because of Amy not because of the new writers.

Amy wanted the show to end with season seven but wanted another year to produce other shows. When the network wouldn't give her an extended contract she decided to screw up the end of the season with Lorelai and Christopher. David Rosenthal and team had to pick up the mess that she left.

What were they supposed to do?

I think they've done a tremedous job trying to work it all out. It probably wasn't an easy task. Everyone's blaming them for it but Amy should of just stuck by her "baby" sucked it up and finished the job!!

I do miss the old GG ways and the dialogue but I am supportive of the new team and think they deserve much respect for what they are trying to do!

If Amy wants to abandon her baby and do something else, let her! The show (if it continues) will do jsut fine.

I don't blame her for not watching! I would hate to see something that I worked so hard for and poured my heart into go so far down hill so quickly. The magic is gone! I am a huge fan of the show, but it is sad to see it become more like a soap-opera than the funny and amusing show it once was. The wit, the strange pop culture references, and the the magic that made it painful to wait for the next episode are all gone! I don't know if Amy could even salvage the crap that remains!

I think that the show isnt as good without the Palladinos Milo Ventimiglia who plays Jess on the show said that without the Palladinos there ist a agood chance that he will be back on the show and that sucks because JESS + RORY = SOULMATES....the show just isnt the same without him but it is still worth watching just it would be better with Jess

Amy Sherman Palladino can bite my ass. She abandoned a show she created that she claimed was her baby, well then call child services because that kid is better off without her.

I have to agree about the show not being as good without the Palladinos. The actors are still good, but the zing has disappeared from the dialogue, even between Rory and Lorelai. Characters are only as authentic and interesting as their lines allow them to be, so I disagree with whoever said that writers can come and go, it's the characters that count. Also, Rory has gotten kind of boring. I think what would be interesting is if they really pursued the story line that was started in Season 5, where Logan's dad, Mitchum, discourages her from being a journalist. He could have an ulterior motive of not wanting her to be with Logan because he only values aggressive Type A people, and thinks Logan should be with someone more like that. Part of Logan would be repulsed by his father's views, but some part of him needs to be challenged by a strong partner. Both Logan and his father secretly want Rory to stand up and prove Mitchum wrong. That situation would push Rory to discover who she is and if she and Logan are really meant to be together. I like them together, but they need some real-life challenges that might be messy and even painful.

Sometimes life takes crazy turns as Lorelai, Rory, Christopher, Luke, and all the other wonderful characters of the Gilmore Girls have. Love hurts when your heart is broken and it is hard to let go. Amy treats this show like the one she has loved and lost. You will always be bitter, cynical, and critical when it comes down to your past love. Creating this show and characters is like losing a piece of your heart. Should Amy be bitter? Yes. Why you ask? No matter how hard she tries or what she says...she will always be in love with her true love. The Gilmore Girls.

Just to put my two cents in not that anyone care but I'm going to do it anyway... Lorelai is my Mom to down to every sarcastic remark and I have to say I can relate to the characters and the plot lines either way... it's almost like I grew up with Rory... I started watching it when I was in high school and now I'm a Jr in college and even if it's not the same writer you have to consider that people GROW UP... they CHANGE... you can't expect the characters to stay the same... Rory isn't that innocent little girl anymore and you have to expect Lorelai to change... Her daughter went to college, she opened her own in... she's REALLY living by herself for the first time since in practically forever... so to those of you who claim to be REAL Gilmore Girls fans and are complaining because the creator left... Writers come and go... but it's the characters who remain...

As much I love Gilmore Girls I can understand Amy Sherman-Palladino feeling the way she does. This show is her's she uses her life experiences and the people in her life to create this show. You take away Amy and you take away a huge piece of the show. As much as the show is interesting right now it's just doesn't seem like the Gilmore Girls that we all grew to love.

I was just watching some old episodes lately, and I have to say, the show is gone, and it died with Amy. Whether you approve or disapprove of her conduct (or alleged conduct) over leaving the show, I think it's sad that she did end up leaving before the show reached the end of its road.

This season's storylines are so tawdry and shallow compared to the richness the show used to have. It's lost its humour, intelligence and overall charm. The Gilmore Girls without its true voice, that of Amy and Dan Palladino, is no longer the Gilmore Girls. I just wish that Amy would give an interview and tell everyone what the real ending of the show is, regardless of where things end up under the new writers.

It's just all very sad...

Amy must of watched the last few episodes, it would explain her pissed off interview. I would be pissed off too if somebody took a great show I made and turned it into meaningless banality. Uh oh! Sookie is pregnant again! Uh oh! A train derailed and dumped pickles all over Star Hollow! Uh oh! What are we going to do to create conflict this week? How about another pregnancy or perhaps we'll give somebody a heart attack.

What a shame.

My interest in weatching "Gilmore" is waning to say the least. It's like Gilmore on valium. Everything that was charming and original about the show is gone-the witty banter, the background music, the twn characters,,,alll gone. Loreli looks just lost-she has to be to be with Chris-it just is so out of charactere and so well...repulsive. It's boring at best. Even the cinematography has changes-the sets are badly lit and somehow Stars Hollow doesn't look like stars hollow anymore. I predict this will be the last season if the writing and plotline don't improve fast. Sad way to go. As a single mom, it was, up until now, the cool single mom show with intelligent characters who were real.

I think that Amy's writing fit the show better than this new crew of butt face miscreants because she came up with it and she has more snappy comebacks and better commentary so the new arrogant conceited butt face miscreants are ruining Amy's original ideas as for the comments that she supposedly left i don't think that they are real the new crew has turned gilmore against itself.

i personally think that the show is great without her, yeah, it was kinda sad at first but it is coming back and they are fixing their mistakes. they see where the hearts of the fans are and chris is out, so as for s-p, she can go wherever, they dont need her, gg is coming back and will end happily.

I am a loyal Gilmore Girls fan and will always watch it. I think what Amy did was disrespectful, the show will get it together

Yes it's true that Amy left the show in a shambles, but a true fan is in it for the long haul! You just have to wait and hope that SOMEONE who's still left finally figures it out, or that they come to their senses and get Amy to come back, so we can have those wonderful witticisms and crazy sense of humor back in the characters!

I am glad that S-P sounds so bitter in that interview! I'm just a lousy old fan, and I'm damn near livid about what happened -- the soul and intelligence of the show is gone, all the characters have gone stale and begun to blend together into one humorless blob, and the plot lines just get dumber by the minute! If I'm this disgusted, then the creater had BETTER be bitter, because it shows she actually cared about being a part of a quality show and is disappointed by GG's unhappy end.

Ms. S-P comments are childish and show her lack of class. I re-iterate my stance from last year...good ridance! I know that I and none of my fam/friends will watch ANYTHING she does in the future b/c of her lack of professionalism and lack of respect for the fans that kept her in a job.

I think the season is going great!! Its not exactly the same as before but its still a great show to watch. And I hope it never ends!!!!!

I totally agree. The show hasn't gone how I would like it to, and I think a lot of stuff that they have been doing with the main characters doesn't fit there characters, but at the same time there has been some really good stuff and I will definately continue to watch and buy the seasons no matter who the creator is, as long as there is some aspect of the show that I like, I'm gonna stay tuned and hope for things to be perfect :)

I haven’t been here in ages. Saw a link on my local station’s website that reminded me.

Amy Sherman-Palladino hurt this show so badly, I’m glad she’s gone. It’s just sad that Rosenthal was enough of a coward to follow in her footsteps.

Maybe he was forced because she signed up David Sutcliff before she left.

It’s sickening how they’ve destroyed Lorelai. I used to love her character and now I can’t bear to look at her. I made a mistake and watched the last episode – and got that horrible long scene of her in bed with Christopher. Ugh.

Next week says they’ll show a late, ‘cosy family Christmas’? With Christopher. No way! I’m out for good. That’s such an insult. Won’t bother to try again to see if it’s suddenly got better, like it used to be.

I don’t see why they keep showing abominations and try to destroy it, all our memories, even our hopes - so many people hoped that one year we'd see a Stars Hollow Christmas.

This year, none of us wanted to look at the DVDs at Christmas.

We bought the DVDs last year thinking we’d always want to rewatch it. Now it makes me sick to just see those boxes with their pictures. It’s a lesson – don’t get into a show until it’s safely over.

Oh – and maybe ASP planned to marry them too. We’ll never know. She seemed to only care about shock value in the end.

I like the idea of chris and lor it has been long coming and i think that once rory graduteates logan should propose to her and if she had stayed chris and lor would have had a wedding when at least rory was there and that logan would have proposed that night when he came back and got rory to come up on the roof

I will always be Gilmore Girl fan untill the end but hate the show right now will let me take that back the only thing I hate about it is that Luke and lorelai are not together!!!!

Amy left the show in shambles if you ask me....she ended it with Lorelai in bed with Chris...what was Rosenthal supposed to do with what she left? She does sound bitter and I can't see how she can't not stick with the show even if it's not going the way the fans want it to.

I still am a GG fan - and just bc some of the writing has gone akwardly doesn't mean I'm giving up on it. Real fans stick with it to the end no matter the story line!!!!

They no longer use references or any other funny stuff since Amys been gone. It has become just another typicall soap opera.

I've completely given up on/lost total interest in Gilmore Girls. We've been waiting years to get Luke and Lorelai and I can honestly tell you that when the ended that relationship, they ruined the show. And I haven't watched, at all, since Lorelai married Christopher. Amy: I completely support you! The show is a mere shell of what it was when you were called the shots!

I am so glad I saw these posts - I can't BELIEVE they let Chris and Lorelai get married! Yuck! Luke was the best! I haven't been able to watch it since the Chris stuff started happening, and at least now I know I'm not alone!

i think the new episodes of gilmore girls are really bad without amy. She brougt the show it's caracter and popularity and i totally agree with her not watching the show. THe new writers totally ruind it. where are all the references it's sucha boring show now that amy's gone. I wouldn't watch the show if the same thing that happend to me as to her.

She is completely forgotten, since a long time, because Rosenthal is as bad as her.
Let's never talk about her again.

gilmore girls will never be the same without her. this season was more then horrible. A complete bore, if you ask me. As a writer myself i can kind of understand what shes going through. But what they did to her was just so wrong. if i had the smarts to make such an incredible show and got kicked out i would seriously sue or something!!!

another thing. i wouldnt watch either. im so mad at where gilmore girls have gone to now. i was mad at last season but she fixed it, then they kicked her out. but this season! omg its terrible. i was the biggest gg fan ever. seen every episode a million times, but this season i have missed the last three episodes and its ok because im so mad. how could lor and chris get married!!! ahhh

i dont agree at all. she has every right to act like that. wb ousted her out of her show! she knew every detail, and how it was gonna end! they didnt even talk to her and ask to change anything. they just ousted her out. now she'll never get to end the show she wanted to! i feel so sorry for her. she got screwed.

She has every right to be bitter. And I agree that it would be hard for her to watch the show now, like she said in the interview about jumping off abuilding. Either way, it's not going to turn out good.
Yes, there are some fans still watching-still, but so many have stopped after Partings. Not all is well in SH.

shes not being harsh; shes being real. I wouldn't watch a show that I made, and had to leave. I don't blame her. Also, they've COMPLETELY changed around everything. She souldn't watch it, if she doesn;t want to.

I think that when she made the @ss biting comment, she was talking about the higher-ups at the WB who didn't give her a fair shake at contract negotiations and didn't fight to keep her on at GG. And, while Season 7 had been adequate, it is missing that S-P punch. So, I think a lot of fans would agree that the people who let her walk away from the show can bite mine as well!

Wow. She seems really abrasive and bitter in that interview. That's quite dismaying.

Good at unemployment? There are millions of people who are unemployed who don't choose it. I'm irked by such insensitivity.

That aside, GG is okay without her. It was falling apart anyway before last season ended. I don't like her idea for her new show. It's shady.
