This May Hurt: The O.C. Not Coming to The CW
Earlier we speculated that The O.C. might come to The CW. It made sense: die-hard fans wanted to show to go on, The CW could have used more loyal viewers and everyone involved would have been happy. But it wasn't meant to be. The Big Green is not picking up the beloved nighttime soap.
Hey, if we had it our way, we'd keep it on the air. But we wish the cast (especially Peter Gallagher and Ben McKenzie - we heart you guys!) well in its future endeavors.

That's totally the wrong choice, I loved it, but I guess some of the cast might have not wanted to do it any more. Any extra info about why would be great.

I am really upset that they haven't decided to pick it up. I definately agree on the part that the fans that are left are really serious about watching this show, and that we're not going to be leave it hanging for another show. I think they should have ordered maybe a short season like season 4, to see how it goes on their network. As I understand it, the shows on The CW aren't exactly of Fox's popularity anyway. That's why I don't really understand it. I don't think the ratings would really go lower on their network, but maybe simply attract viewers that don't have access to the FOX network.
For those that are saying that the CW needs to concentrate on more adult shows, I don't think that most adults spend as much time and as much dedication in making sure they catch their shows all the time. The teens are usually the ones that obsess about the shows. Especially since The O.C. already has developed a reputation from their hardcore fans, then at least they don't have to go around promoting something new that's similar, seeing as many viewers have sworn off watching a new show that is in any way close to this show.

To the person that wrote that the CW needed to focus on more adult shows, then what do you think about the Gossip Girls that they OC creator Josh Schwartz is writing? Do you think that is for the "older audience." And what about one of the MAIN reasons why the OC was not picked up by the CW network, Hidden Palms. It is an OC-Like show drama and everything even though they people have said that it has a different "feel" than the OC, it still will have some of the same storylines (Lost boy meets hot girl) Let's face it, CW screwed up. The OC would have much better ratings than this Hidden Palms. I think the CW is trying to aim for the teenage demographic and not adult, so it absolutely makes NO SENSE that they DIDN'T PICK UP THE OC. It could have been the highest rated show on CW because I'm sure they would have promoted the HELL out of it. You screwed up CW but I will still watch your shows, you aren't the reason the OC was cancelled...it was fucking FOX.

I am so happy. The CW is for Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill, and Supernatural.

I'll never be okay with the loss of our dear departed O.C...this season is by far the best since season 1. I'll be able to be okay with it if they just allow it to end well. Within the last few episodes, they need to stop this whole "i love you, but i'm too messed up to love you" bullshit with Taylor towards Ryan. Ryan needs someone to love him. And if it can't be me, then Taylor needs to step the fuck up. And remember, there's always a chance for a series to be picked up by some other network or by FOX once again. Remember, fox has cancelled ALOT of shows, and it has resulted in, essentially, a ratings slum. They cancelled Family Guy a few years ago, and now it's one of their highest rated shows. Just keep the hope. The O.C Will never Rest in Peace. <3

Almost every single week of this season, The OC has been listed as must-see TV on websites and in magazines. “Must See”, “Best Bet”, “Catching Up With Your Favorites” … I don’t understand how a show that gets that kind of positive attention can be cancelled. The OC IS the best show ever.

No.. This totally sucks! The CW would have had an extra 4 million viewers, too bad for them now.
The OC is the best show ever and is too underrated!!

Good. The last thing this network needs is more teen fare like the OC. You want CW to succeed? The CW desperately needs something on the air in the spring besides teenaged shows.
Teen viewers watch American Idol. They actually think the auditions are important. This is the demographic that watches the OC. The CW needs adult skewing shows. The OC didn't even get a significant boost when it had Idol as a lead in on those few occasions. It's too expensive; it's had its run. It doesn't have enough viewers. It would have less viewers on the CW because the CW has less affiliates than FOX.
It's *not* a good fit. Not for a network that's thinking long term. Not for a network that's strapped for cash. Good for the suits for not picking it up.

Ugh that sux! After we poured our heart out on these boards they don't pick it up. Oh well, I'm not mad at the CW, I hate FOX though.

Good. Screw the OC. Focus on the awesome shows you already don't give enough attention to.

I'm 48 and know a LOT of other people around my age who are diehard OC fans.

I'm 47 not 30-34 and I think you're wrong, it would've brought the Network alot more viewers, as it is now they're going to lose some.

I can't believe this. The CW need to give us more of an explanation as to their reasons for turning their backs on this show or they are going to suffer some backlash from the decision.
The OC fans out there are staunch and loyal. Many have already sworn off ever watching anything on Fox again and had admitted their preparedness to support the CW's programming wherever and whenever possible in return for them picking up their favourite show. BUT NO the CW were only teasing and let me warn you it's likely to come back to bite.
Their are 4 million OC fans out there bleeding. Just be careful you don't end up with some of it on you.

I hate to see The OC die, too, but it's an expensive show, and i doubt the CW could afford it. As for the blog posting being "bogus" -- it was speculation, labeled as a rumor, and they never said "Dudes, we're getting the OC!" It was a "What if" post, and I don't think they were trying to fool anyone.
Posted by: Jerslix | January 24, 2007 12:06 PM
That Sucks! I hate to see The O.C. end. The CW doesn't make much sense if you ask me, It would be great for the CW to get die hard fans like The O.C. has always had, Too start watching their network!! If One Tree Hill wasn't my Fav show then I wouldn't watch The CW no more, because That sucks that they wouldn't pick up the VERY good OC. Fox and CW SUCKS!!!!!
Posted by: Andrew | January 23, 2007 11:58 PM
You don't pick up shows that only earned 4 million viewers or so on a network like FOX that has 100 percent national coverage. CW doesn't have that. That translates to even less viewers. Plus, the O.C. is expensive. The CW has got to start launching successful scripted shows of its own or it won't survive long term. Picking up the OC would have been a mistake. I'm glad they exercised the good judgment not to pick it up. The last thing it needs is *more* teen angst. The teens will abandon it as soon as Idol comes along, as One Tree Hill's ratings being sliced nearly in half last Wednesday proved.
The CW needs to realize there are 30-34 year olds in the 18-34 demographic, and it needs to start catering to 18-49 demos as well.

I thought the CW Network had more sense than the Fox Network but apparently I was wrong and I feel used by the CW Network for posting a bogus blog. They never had any intention of picking it up by the time the blog was posted. Now the CW Network ranks right up there with the Fox Network. I've banned Fox from my house once the OC ends, I used to watch One Tree Hill and Smallville, but now I won't watch the CW Network either. If Dawn should see fit to change her mind that would be a different story. What both networks fail to understand is that the fans that are left, are diehard, can't shake us with a stick. Since I can't get any satisfaction from the networks, I'll have to have my say the only way I can, abandon all ships.

I don't understand why The CW decided against it. Like you said, die-hard fans wanted the show to go on, and The CW could have used more loyal viewers! Everyone involved would have benefitted and been happy! Sounds like a win-win to me, and I don't get why The CW decided no. I just wish someone would explain to us why. There are about 4 million *households* of people out here who are truly heartbroken.

Claire, glad to meet another Ben/Peter fan! Do you know why the CW isn't going to pick up The OC? Some of us out here are DEVASTATED and wish there was something, ANYTHING we could do!
