Gilmore Girls: We're Feeling Some Deja Vu
Where to begin with all that happened on Gilmore last night? Even the most pro-Luke fans out there can't help but feel a little sad for Christopher. He's been wining and dining Lorelai, taking her on fabulous dates, trips to Paris, he uprooted his daughter, got into a brawl, put up numerous flat screen TVs (okay, that was more for him) -- the point is, he's been making an effort. He's into the marriage, and it's clear Lorelai is not. Who do you think is to blame?
In Farewell, My Pet, Chris claims that he's been asking Lorelai to marry him for 20 years. That's not entirely true. He's been blowing in and out of town on his motorcycle for years, and talking about settling down, but when it came down to it, he actually asked another woman to marry him. Lorelai didn't really hear from him again until that marriage went south. Christopher tells Lorelai that he pushed her into marrying him, Lorelai counters that she jumped into it. You can't help but wonder if years ago Christopher had actually proposed to her they might still be married. Back then, think Seasons One and Two, Lorelai had only flirted with Luke. There wasn't as much history between them. Do you think then she and Chris might have had a chance?
And, for longtime fans of the show... Did it strike you as familiar that there was a pet funeral? Or, more so that Lorelai didn't really care about it? In Season One's Cinnamon's Wake, the whole town rallied around Babette when her cat Cinnamon died. Why does Michel get the cold shoulder? Is it because he's Michel? Is just because everybody has a lot more going on? Back then, Lorelai even cancelled her date with Max -- her future fiance, to participate. Also, coincidence (or not?), in that episode, Rory was flustered and tongue-tied around the new guy in town, Dean. Is this déjà vu or what?

Letmeclearmythroat you said it all and very well indeed. The showrunners clearly are out of touch with reality if they think that we as fans can enjoy a story involving a character like Christopher. There were so many other ways of keeping the show interesting. All they have achieved with that storyline was indeed to make us not only loath Christopher but tarnish the character of Lorelai in the process. If the show is to end in its 7th season it is indeed a sad sad way to do it. They simply do not have enough time to redeem the character of Lorelai in the remaining episodes and the way they have tried to salvage some decency in the character of Christopher is most insulting because he is not worth salvaging. One way of doing it would have been to focus on improving his relationship with Rory, not Lorelai. She made her choice at the beginning of the season by not marrying him when she should have for the sake of young Rory, anytime after that was too late, his only relationship should have been with Rory.
A great deal of the blame goes to the Paladinos but D. Rosenthal did not have to take things to such a sordid level.
How can anyone like a character like Christopher is beyond me.

I'm just going to take this time to vent a little bit. I hope you all don't mind.
Christopher was not a victim. He NEVER was a victim. He took advantage of Lorelai when she was at her most vulnerable. She had just broken up with her fiance, and he chose to be 'there' for her by sleeping with her. He's an awful person. He's immature, selfish, cowardice, oh how the list could go on. I keep seeing people writing pro-Chris posts and I would seriously like some solid, mature reasons why Christopher deserves to have such a permanent role in Lorelai's life because I just really don't see it. And, I'm glad that he was AT LEAST man enough to admit a small piece of his fault- that he pushed her. Because he really did. She did not happily progress in any stage of their relationship, and he didn't care b/c all Christopher could see is what Christopher wanted. He had to convince her into a date, then sex, then marriage, then (unsuccessfully) with a baby, then the wedding. I mean, it's not like he was some innocent, oblivious bloak who happened to have cluelessly wandered in on her complicated love life and got caught up. He was there. He even did his part in causing some of the complication. So, while everyone else was feeling so sorry for poor little Chris, I wanted to hit him. He's going around crying and trying to start fights like he's being wronged in some way. He makes me sick.
I get really tired of reading that Luke doesn't deserve Lorelai like Luke is this big, insensitive jerk who intentionally caused her pain. It was nothing like that. He was pig-headed and was blinded by his new circumstances. He made big mistakes, but I hardly think that he doesn't deserve the woman. In all honesty, Christopher is the one who doesn't deserve her. And, I'm not saying that Lorelai is some big prize because she definitely has her issues. Going back to Christopher just proves that she's far from perfect.
The fact that the majority of what could be the final season was spent indulging in such a ridiculous relationship is crazy. I understand Rosenthal had to clean up last season's mess, and he's doing that now, but this is AFTER pouring about 20 gallons of more crap into it. He's now cleaning up his own mess, and it's way bigger than ASP's.
I'm an L/L fan big time, but I'm, more importantly, a GG fan, and speaking from that perspective, this whole season just needs to be redone.
Oh, and why hasn't Luke hooked up with anyone? It's really disturbing to me how if he and Lorelai get back together, she will have had all kinds of action while he would have still only had HER almost a year ago. My romantic side loves that, but everything else in me wants to see her reaction to not knowing that Luke didn't just join a freakin' monastary. One jacked up date? That's all we get? Hmph.
But this is just all my opinion.

Suemey, honey, I think I love you. If that is not EVERYTHING that I have been thinking, I don't know what is. You put that so beautifully. And it is so so true!

Luke made a mistake, but i think Lorelai wasn't being open enough about her feelings, and then she just kind of blew up in his face that one night they broke up. i think he's one of those guys where you have to be blunt- he can't take hints. but even though he was a jerk to her, i think he realizes his mistake and is trying to change things for the better (unlike Logan, but he's another matter).

omg!!! I hate it that Lane is pregant and Rory doesn't seem to care. And no one feels the same way about it except me!!!!! It doesn't make sense that Lorelai doesn't have a stable relationship with any man yet.I mean come on,it's the 7th season!! I really don't want this show to cancel so make something exciting hapen, so it doesn't go right down the drain like Friends did.

I'm glad that Lorelai and Chris broke up. I think that even though they had a lot of history together they weren't right for each other. I also think it's terrible how he refused to answer his cell phone when Lorelai needed him most.
Also, does anyone know what kind of cell phone Lorelai has?

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
Lorelai HAS to get back together with Luke. They are perfect for each other.
Posted by: Olivia | February 28, 2007 6:27 PM
I was soooo disappointed that Lorelai and Chris split up. Lorelai has apparently forgotten all her history with Christopher. Before he found out he got whats her face pregnant they were going to be together and she was sooo excited. But since he decided to do the right thing that time they couldn't be together. Luke doesn't deserve to have Lorelai back. Luke treated Lorelai like dirt all the time not just once. He was always insensitive to her feelings. I hope that she ends up realizing her mistake and goes back to Christopher.

I'm glad that the next episode rory put herself together and throws a shower for lane. I was beggining to wonder wth!!! why those two never talked again

I did not find this “parting of ways” between Lorelai and Christopher moving or heartbreaking in anyway. Lorelai views him in a totally different light than we the viewers/fans obviously. Lorelai has let him down way too easy and has yet again given him a pass.
When it comes to Christopher Lorelai is a fool. Luke messed up once (big time mind you) and instead of talking about it with him she decides to punish him by running straight to Christopher after a crazed ultimatum. Since we now know that she and Chris slept together that night as consenting adults that was a sure way to shut the door on a future with Luke.
Christopher always left me indifferent until that night when he clearly took advantage of a very distraught woman. He finally admitted that much in their parting conversation. He was not thinking of her well-being, her happiness nor the consequences of his actions, just about the prize he always wanted for himself. How can anyone respect such a man.
That makes him an opportunistic low life unscrupulous selfish individual and I now have great disdain for him.
I found the ending of this marriage rather rushed and contrived. For sure the new showrunner had to clean up the mess left by the Palladinos but a lot of us could have done without having Chris in our faces for 14 episodes. It was such a pleasing experience to watch episode 15 the first Chris-free in a long time. So the “parting” scene did not bring me to tears, just a great sigh of relief. I will never watch any show with that actor because I will always see the face of Christopher.

Does anyone know who does the background music for gilmore girls. The whole la la la stuff. I have an idea but would like another opinion. If not how could i find out?

I'm glade Lorelai and Chris are split up. She belongs with Luke. He's been in her life more than Chris. On one of Luke and Lorelai dates, Luke had a note in his wallet that Lorelai gave him when she came to town. She was 16 years old.

Thanks goodness that lorelai and chris have broken up i cant stand him. Please let lor and luke be together now its long overdue.

I think Lorelai needs to choose what she is going to do with her life. She needs to find somebody that she can truly love her and she also needs to learn things about love. Patience and decesion making would help her a lot.

I hate the turn the show is taking. Its just bland no one is evolving, nothings happening - Lorelai should have finally began to create a new life - it's dumb to think that after 7 season's she's still not married and doesn't have stability. Rory has more of a grasp on what she wants than Lorelai.

I am so tier of the Luke and Lorelie, he treated her like crap last season, I think is time to let that romance go…and she should be with Chris, they belong together. Its getting kind of boring all the break ups and the getting back together, I love the show but I think is time to end it, before it hits rock bottom. They should to like “Friends” did, get out while is good and unlike “Seven Heaven” which I don’t understand what it still doing on the air.

well, lorelai and chris can't be over just yet think about this .... there could be a new baby on the way who knows ..
Posted by: a. natale | February 20, 2007 10:08 AM
Um, wrong wrong and wrong. When we first met Christopher he proposed to Lorelai. Remember? He had been staying with them and then he proposed, she said no, and as he was leaving Rory had to communicate messages between them. So even though she may not have been as into Luke back then, her and chris would never have happened.
Posted by: Mark | February 20, 2007 12:29 AM
Yeah i don't think that either! He treated her like garbage last season, she was totally into their relationship and he blew it... But this lorelai character is a good person and quite emotional so i guess shes going to open up to him (luke

I think that Luke and Lorelai should get back togethter and i don't feel sorry at all for Chris b/c he deserves this for abandoning Lorelai in season one and now he just want her b/c he feels lonely. What goes around comes around and it's about time Chris learned that!
Posted by: Margo | February 17, 2007 10:43 AM
OHM i hate chris and she should be with luke and thats all there is. Chris is the safe choice.
BUT PLEASE would someone feel the same way as me. I miss rory and lane, besides that character is preggers and rory doesnt seem to care. I have no one to talk this things but with other fans, all my family and boyfriend hate this series so please someone give me their insides on ths matter
Posted by: suemey | February 15, 2007 11:08 PM
I really hope they bring luke and lorelai back togather!

"Even the most pro-Luke fans out there can't help but feel a little sad for Christopher."
Not me - I can't stand Christopher, I hate that he and Lorelai ever got together. He took advantage of her when she was having trouble with Luke. He deserves to be ousted. Just go away Christopher. Lorelai belongs with Luke.
Posted by: Erika | February 15, 2007 6:57 AM
I hate the fact that lane and rory don't talk anymore. What type of character is that rory if the writers don't put some worry or happinnes on her at the mere notion of her friend having twins. Does anyone feels the same way. I want to see some rory-lane time at least for the birth
Posted by: suemey | February 15, 2007 12:36 AM
I think that Christopher is way over reacting! i think it was totally ok for Lorelai to give that reference for Luke!
Even though she still has feelings for Luke Chris should still know that Lorelai would never do anything to purposely hurt Chris! I think that Lorelai and Chris should have never got back together in the first place but if Chris and Lorelai do break up then i hope that Lorelai and Luke get Back together for good this time!
Posted by: Gabbi | February 14, 2007 6:38 PM
I agree with Sara.
I thought i might be okay with Chris, but it's obvious that Lor is supposed to be with Luke.
Posted by: Jenny | February 14, 2007 2:44 PM
Lets really think about this. Christopher isn't just some great guy who is getting left behind by Lorelai. He is childish and jealous. He always has been and he always will be. They had one little fight and he left without word, turned his cell phone off and pouted for days. That is something usually seen in High School, and definately not something someone "all in" a marriage would do. Both Lor and Chris got caught up in the magic of Paris, and we all knew from that moment that this is where it was headed. This season has been unbelieveably predictable. Also, the difference between the cat funeral in season 1 and the dog funeral last night are massive...Lor is currently tangled up in her own problems, a marriage that should never have happened complete with a childish husband who runs at the first chance, a father who is in the hospital....it isnt exactly the bright and sunny same as season 1 where she forgot about a date to support a friend...

I felt SO SORRY for Chris. He tried so hard with Lorelai, and she was too selfish to see what a great man she had right in front of her. She always wants what she can't have. I can tell that the writers are moving towards a Lorelai/Luke reunion, but honestly, I don't think he deserves her.
