Supernatural: We're Still Laughing
Hahahahahahaowowowowow! You’ll have to excuse us, but our sides still hurt from laughing so much. That was the most fun we’d had watching TV in a long time. It was light, it was fluffy, it was hysterically funny, it was angst-free… it was just what we needed. Revisit some of the funniest quotes!
We loved the Trickster’s poetic (or limerick, as Dean said) justice: The horny “ethics” professor who got tossed out the window by an undead woman scorned; the overenthusiastic frat boy hazer who was not only probed, but forced to slow dance; the animal researcher who got chewed up by an alligator. It was ridiculous and over-the-top and just like headlines we’ve seen in the Weekly World News. Nicely done.
Have we mentioned how much we love Bobby? Because we seriously want to marry him and have his little bearded, trucker-cap-wearing babies. Those are some genes that need to be propagated right there. Everything he did and said was just perfect. We salute you, Bobby. Vote on your favorite Bobby moment?
Everyone obviously had a fantastic time making this episode, from the actors to the editors to the procurers of severed-limb special effects. How fantastic were the boys when they were portraying themselves through their brothers’ eyes? Sam being all bitchy and then over-the-top, feel-your-pain emo? Dean stuffing his face, and getting sloppy drunk and hitting on the sluttiest girl in the bar? Priceless. We even liked their own versions of their actions – Dean got all James-Bond suave and mission-focused in his version of the bar story, while Sam always saw himself as the sober, rational counterpart to his boorish brother.
And the bickering! That was so well done. They were such brothers in those scenes, from Dean deliberately annoying Sam by turning up the radio to Sam’s eye-rolling huffiness whenever Dean talked. It brought up the repressed memories of far too many long car trips with our siblings – “Mooooooom! She’s touching me!”
But even when they were being supernaturally prompted to get on each others’ nerves, the guys still did a stellar job stopping the bad guy. Yes, Bobby had to kick their butts to make them see what was going on, but after he did, the guys were just on. They totally faked us out with their final argument before Dean went to confront the Trickster. The way they worked together to stake the bad guy was a beauty to behold. We were sorry to see the Trickster go… and glad that he had a few more tricks up his sleeve. Well done all around. Read a full recap!
Other things to note: Did you catch the winner of the MySpace music contest playing in the bar when Sam described the drunken Dean scene? You can check it out without the distraction of Dean’s booze-fueled hijinks -- watch it on their site. And were we the only ones who thought there were a bunch of shout-outs to Plastic!Winchester Theater? The limerick reference, the Barry White, Sam flailing… we loved it all.
We’ve got reruns for a month (wah!) until the Tricia Helfer episode (yay!), so we’ll be bringing back the fan-art features. Send us links to your favorite fanvids, art, comics, interviews, commentary and all the rest to us at cwsource@gmail.com.
What did you think? What was your favorite moment from the show? Do you worship at the altar of Bobby like we do? Do you want to see the Trickster again? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Great ep. I have missed the lightheartedness of some of the first season episodes. It's nice to see again.

I just loved the self-deprecating humour of this episode, and crusty old Bobby Singer is the best supporting character ever!
I was impressed by Jared and Jensen's range in their exaggerated portrayals of the brothers, and thought the premise was very clever.

I loved this episode. It was such a nice break from the hard-hitting, get to your gut stuff that we normally see, and the boys were great! They have so much talent, a lot more than they get credit for and I loved seeing this side to them. I was crying, I was laughing so hard.

Fantastic episode!
A little weird but that's why this show is so great, because it's never boring and has always interesting stories and awesome acting.
I loved Jared and Jensen in this one, they can do angst and funny and they always rock!
Also loved Bobby and the slow dance with the alien.
Thanks for the idea of sending fanarts, that's great!

Re: the trickster
I wrote this on my yahoo group a few days ago:
>>Was its being alive at the end just a classic open ending or was it left alive for a reason by the writers? Do they already have its return planned?
Since the trickster could conjure up corporeal beings, could he conjure up a
daddy Win to mess with the boys? Granted, that would be kind of a lame use of JDM if they used that as a way to bring him back. I'd rather it be tied in with the main mytharc and/or the yellow eyed demon. And, I'm not really familiar with the mythology but would the trickster even be able to know about John and their relationship? I mean, he clearly knew some things about his victims but was that just from his observance of them or was it something more? Plus, Bobby said that they targeted the high and mighty. So, would it really go after the boys? Even if they did try to kill it?
It could conjure up anything. Objects, food, people and it would all feel real.
Ooo, how about the trickster messing with the boys by "tricking" them into hell, where they'd see John. lol.
Ok, this is all incredibly farfetched. If nothing else, it might make for a
good fanfic.>Ok, as I said there, the "hell" part is pretty far-fetched but I really want to see a Supernatural version of hell. lol. I have ever since Dean oh so convincingly stated that he'd march into hell and kill "all you son's of b's", in "Devil's Trap". (I soooo want to see that. You hear me, Kripke? lol)
I also got to thinking (don't be afraid. Well, maybe you should be. lol) and wondering if the yellow eyed demon could possess a trickster. I mean, it was able to possess a reaper (Tessa). Too far-fetched again? lol. Probably, but that could solve my problem of them "wasting" (for lack of a better word) bringing John back as just some tool for a trickster to get back at the boys.<<
Anyway, those were my thoughts on the trickster coming back.

I loved this episode! OMG! "Too precious for this world." I thought I'd die on that one. And the whole classy chick making the comment about looking into the sunlight (according to Dean's memory). I was rolling. As someone else said, these moments will mean even more when the stuff hits the fan in the future because really... have there ever been two brothers who love each other more?
Dean, Sam, and Bobby...They rock my world!

TT was a wonderfully funny and entertaining episode - a perfect way to give viewers a break from the angstfest that has been going on. The acting in this episode was superb - JA and JP were just over the top enough to make the episode hilarious without making it completely ridiculous and the addition of Jim Beaver as Bobby was the icing on the cake. The episode is definately a series classic and one that I will not mind watching over and over again!!!

I'm with fangirl...I too would like to see the trickester come back.

I LOVED this epiosde!! It was brilliantly done and acted! I dont think i have ever laughed that much in my whole life as i did for that 1 hour!
Aliens and slow dancing?? I will never listen to Lady in Red the same way again!
This episode was awesome! And the editing was excellent!
Good job SN guys!!

Great episode. Man did I laugh or what? The humor was tops, Jensen Ackles's expressions and faces was awesome, Jared's emo persona going overboard? Priceless. It was all good, loved the Trickster and loved Bobby. Chipmonk cheeks Dean will always be my favorite, still has me laughing, the boys fighting over the money clip, the fight with the Trickster's fembots, it was just so funny. Loved it. Great job to all involved.

Sam's "give it" while they were wrestling on the bed really set me off because that was sooo my line when I was a kid. I was the second to the youngest of seven kids. I was such a brat and tattletale. lol.
Anyway, certain kinds of humor aren't for everyone. I like inane. I like witty/clever. I like to laugh, in short, but I have to agree that they went for pretty easy laughs here. The chipmunk cheeks. The face in the bosom, etc.. It's not for everyone, obviously, and if you're a viewer that doesn't have siblings then maybe you just wouldn't "get" the humor here, but they did put some real thought into it. Like when they were sitting at the table and Bobby had finally had enough and he told Sam that Dean didn't take his computer. Sam, in a very younger bratty brother sort of way tried to argue and when Bobby told Dean that Sam didn't let the air out of his tires he calmly listened. Little touches like that, that show a consistency within the sibling pecking order really sells it.
But, as I said in my other post, the MOTW part kind of fell flat for me. It kind of petered out at the end but it was what it was. It was indeed a filler episode and a nice break from the intense stuff that's been building up.

I totally forgot to mention that I really, really want the trickster to come back. Friend or foe, doesn't matter just so long as he comes back at some point.
Posted by: fangirl | February 17, 2007 7:24 PM
Fantastic, witty episode. Smarter than you might think at first glance. True, there were alligators, horny aliens and tricksters, oh my, but this episode nailed sibling behavior. Someone put a camera in my baby brothers' room. They must have. The snarkiness was so true to life. If you can't laugh at true to life humor like this, you need a tissue for that nosebleed.
Nobody's "above" this sort of humor. You've lost your sense of humor completely if you are. Bravo, writers. This was a refreshing change of pace. All hail Bobby and the trickster. The angst and the mytharc will return soon enough. I love them, but I need to laugh once in a while as well. Bravo!

Went for easy laughs but not a particularly smart episode. I guess I prefer humor that takes a little more effort.
Oh, well. I guess everyone just needs a break sometimes.
There's nothing wrong with an occasional break just to laugh at all the brouhaha and relax if there isn't a steady diet of it. Have we gotten past a point where we can appreciate the *very* true to life representation of two brothers gettting on each others' frigging nerves, albeit in supernatural circumstances? Anyone with a sibling can tell you the humor was spot on.
Posted by: GA | February 17, 2007 2:44 PM
That sheer WACKINESS of the humor had me howling with laughter for the full hour....I bet shooting some of these scenes COMPLETELY cracked EVERYBODY up...actors and crew! I'd love to have been there to see it...
And from what I've read...the last month or so is going to be pretty well devoid of laughs! Guess everyone needed to blow of some steam.
Posted by: bev | February 17, 2007 1:28 PM
Okay I was laughing from beginning to END! It was soo funny, I really enjoyed this episode. It reminded me so much of my sister and I, we're always having those fights like how Sam and Dean do, except we're the girl version.
Sam was being sooo funny when he was portrayed by Dean in the bar. "Blah blah blah blah blah" He totally made that really funny.
Bobby, I donno what it is about him..but i love the guy. He's great!
Dean..ur adorable, end of story.
Great show, keep up the good work. Hey, maybe i'll go audition to be on the next episode..haha

Hysterical. The guys had so much fun with this one. Must have been a huge breath of fresh air after the heavy angst of the season so far.
I just cannot pick a favorite scene, but Dean's version of the bar scene cracked me up as did the chipmonk cheeks and the Captain Emo hug to end all hugs.
And of course Bobby rocked.
Outstanding all around.

Loved this episode! Nice change of pace from all the drama of the past few weeks and Deans chipmunk cheeks and Sams blah blah blah will never fail to amuse me! Can't believe we have to wait 4 weeks for all new episodes! I love this show!!!
Posted by: rachael | February 16, 2007 6:38 PM
All I can say is I can not wait for the DVD to come out! It is going to be so painful knowing that we won't get to see the bloopers for this episode until September at the earliest *whimpers* Hopefully we'll get an audio commentary from the guys on how in the world they got through filming for this ep!

This was HILARIOUS! OHMYGAWD, I cracked up through the entire thing and haven't had this much fun watching TV in AGES!!!!!! Watching the guys through each other's eyes was brilliant - and JA and JP were sooo on with their comedy in this. And BOBBY RULES!
Posted by: Mab | February 16, 2007 5:53 PM
This episode was alot of hilarious frosting; nothing really going on with the story (which still sort of fall apart at the end) but some great comedic moments from our boys. I'm pretty sure that I loved it; Dean stuffing his face was amazing and holy hell how did he unhinge his jaw like that?
Also, the writers of this blog have got to be from TWoP. Bobby's bearded-trucker-cap-wearing-babies? Priceless.
Posted by: Michelle | February 16, 2007 3:35 PM
Loved this lightheared and fun eppy. I have no idea how they finished filming this episode. All the actors had to be laughing their asses off.
Bobby was absolutely awesome: from his expressions regarding the childish banter between Dean and Sam, to his witty comments, to the way he took control of the hunt. Hope Kripke and Co. don't kill him off. Jim has some good chemistry with JA & JP.
The different and exaggerated version of events through the eyes of Dean and Sam were hilarious. Dean drinking purple nurples is humorous no matter which way you slice it. (He's a wiskey and beer guy.) Sam's "touchy feely self-help yoga crap" on the unsuspecting student was just...lol...Priceless.
Can't wait to see how and when the trickster will resurface. He wasn't the typical evil specimen. He was sly, suave and had a great sense of humor.
4 weeks...I'll be patient. At least the CW is rerunning some SN episodes during this hiatus instead of BTB SV episodes.

An episode like this really is needed to kind of hit 'reset' on everyone's angst-overload capacitors, and the new episodes after the *whimper* Hiatus will be all the tastier for it. This was a wonderful palate-cleanser, a breather episode between angst and direness, which while awesome can become draining over long periods.
It also refreshed and re-cemented the core brothery-ness of Sam and Dean after all the recent pounding their relationship has taken with the Big (non)Secret and the whole angsty, demonic dark plot-lines and character arcs and shooting/beating the crap out of each other. By re-cementing the brothery bickering and the solid realness of their relationship, when things hit the fan down the road (as I'm sure they will) there will be a greater sense of tension and angst because this episode showed us again how much is at stake, and was probably also a bit of a refresher for the actors as well.
Cute, happy, fluffy episode, that still had plot and a bit of goriness. Well done.

It was funny but not my favorite episode. The trickster was boring and that all fell apart towards the end.
It had a lot of funny moments. Jensen kills me with his facial expressions and the chipmunk cheeks was too much. lol.
Loved Bobby for coming out to help them. They really needed a buffer since they were getting on each other's nerves. Kinda makes you feel sorry for John, seeing what he probably had to deal with when they were growing up.
Loved Dean getting tossed around by the scantily clad women. How many times do you think they had to do that "face in the bosom" shot? lol.
Full of funny moments but, yeah, definitely a throw away episode.
Oh, I am kind of disappointed that Sam's arm was symbol free. I know it would be a pain to add a scar or whatever every day but a little continuity there would have been nice at least. I was hoping he'd still have that symbol (and where Bobby burned him) on his arm. Or at least a bandage from having it removed or something. Yeah, yeah, it's a stand alone but still. I like continuity. Especially after an intense episode like last week. I don't like when they just drop EVERYthing.

It's official: Eric Kripke owns my soul.
That is all.
Posted by: kelsey | February 16, 2007 2:57 PM
It provided the much needed comic relief!
I adore the fact that Jensen and Jared are willing to go there and are not afraid to laugh at themselves.
I agree about Bobby's awesomeness. I'm quite afraid for his life now, since the show kills off the other guest characters I like.
I cannot wait until March 15th. Thank goodness they're showing reruns at the very least. Otherwise, I'll be dying from serious withdrawal symptoms.
This season has been terrific to say the least! Keep up the good work, Kripke & Co.
Posted by: Melanie | February 16, 2007 2:27 PM
Hmmm. I liked it well enough I suppose. It served its purpose with some easy laughs but outside of that there wasn't much to it. Merely filler.
I'm actually kind of disappointed we have to have this episode hold us over until the next new one in March. Once everyone's done guffawing over the inane humor, there's nothing left to discuss.

Great episode!
I loved Bobby and the trickster.
And of course Sam and Dean!
Incredibly funny, every moment.
When Sam hugged that fratboy I couldn't stop laughing!
I loved the end with the boys trying to apologize.

WOW! What a great episode!
I laughed so much!
The boys were incredibly funny, kudos to Jensen and Jared once again.
So many funny lines I can't even remember them all!
And Bobby! Love him!
