Top Model: Anti-Fur Means You Hate Fur, Kathleen
It's only been one episode, and we're already more invested in Cycle 8 than we ever were in Cycle 7. The season started off with a trip to Jay-and-Miss-Jay-led model boot camp, complete with waist measurements and forced marches (in platform high heels, natch). From there, Tyra made her first appearance, steppin' and stompin' her way onto the screen. Ty whittled down the bunch to thirteen, and what a group they are! Lots of characters, and some villains already. Who's already getting on your nerves?
Plus-size (Whitney and Diana), Latina (Jaslene), half-black and Jewish (Jael)... we're loving the variety this season. But just because they're beautiful doesn't mean they know how to model. The first "controversial" photo shoot (political statements, from vegan to pro-choice) disappointed Tyra, who said that hardly anyone had a standout photo.
Kathleen, we totally wanted to like you, but what part of "anti-fur" didn't you understand? After Jay and Nigel spelled it out and you still stood there blank-faced when you could've been throwing paint and screaming, we kind of gave up. And so did Tyra. So long, Kathleen and Kathleen's killer accent ("Nigel's so tawwwwl!")
Tyra appears to be a big fan of Jaslene, and we do admire the Jas's return to Top Model after being eliminated early in Cycle 7. But there's something about her face that's hard to like. Tyra loved Jaslene's photo, but it reminded us of a mug shot in all its scary stone-facedness. And she's SO skinny, in a way that's practically worrisome. Still, she's got that, er, spicy Latina flavor (hey, she said it; we didn't). And that walk. Can a girl become Top Model based on sassy walk alone? We're about to find out.
Renee, you annoy. A lot. As you sobbed your way through the episode and told us how much you miss your husband and son, we couldn't help but wonder... why are you here? No one's forcing you to model, and if you're that miserable -- stay home and stop bothering everyone! Another reason Renee bugs? Because she's already had a kid and her stomach is still way flatter than our never-been-preggers bellies. Okay, that's superficial. But we're allowed to be superficial --they're competing to be models, remember?
Every season, someone always gets sick and has trouble meeting her full potential. And every season, Tyra rips her a new one: "You have to work through it!" At least Jael didn't make excuses (we all know how Tyra feels about excuses). We haven't decided how we feel about Jael yet. On one hand, she seems cool in that semi-stoned wants-to-be-everyone's friend kind of way. But her voice! And the fact that she goes from feeling flulike to hula hooping in ten seconds flat! She's hard to pin down...
We adore Whitney. In fact, we kind of want to be Whitney. She's gorgeous and has the brains to back it up -- she's an Ivy Leaguer! How refreshing to see beauty, brains and a seemingly nice personality in one package on this show. Usually, we're lucky to get two out of three. We hope Whitney sticks around.
We wouldn't mind hanging out with Diana, either. She's beautiful in a completely normal way, as opposed to Natasha, who's beautiful in a kind of intimidating way.
Speaking of Natasha, she definitely has model looks. Heck, she's also got the model 'tude, if you consider Naomi and Kate your role models. When she's glammed up, we see traces of Scarlett Johansson and even Angelina Jolie in her face. Oh, and we love her backstory -- at 18, she married a 40-year-old American who brought her to the states. And she spoke two sentences of English! If that isn't love, what is?
Sarah, we love your look, but we can't stand your sense of pretentious entitlement. That's going to get old, fast. In fact, it already did -- about the second time you brought up how you know everything about modeling because of all your experience. Not going to make you any friends, and not going to earn you any points with us (and after all, it's all about earning points with us).
The jury's still out on the other girls, who didn't really get enough airtime for us to give them a fair assessment. Fortunately, we have a whole season of catwalks, backstabbing, and Tyra lunacy ahead... and we can't wait.

Ok so Jasleen won right?? Can you understand a word she says?? I sure can't. A few cycles back I clearly remember a girl named Danielle. Tyra said that she had to learn to speak more eloquently. Well why did she have to take voice lessons while Jasleen doesn't? I can better understand Danielle to Jasleen. Seriously be fair Tyra!!!!!

OMG I HATE NATASHA! SHE IS SO UGLY. I cannot see how all the judges think she's gorgeous! She stands around with her mouth hanging open and when she smiles it looks like she's trying to fart!

I knew that Jasleen was going to win for the same reason that I knew Caridee was going to win. Although I can't quite put my finger on it, Caridee and Jasleen just seemed very similar to me in personality and overall appeal. Also, when it comes down to Melrose and Natasha, I also think the judges rejected both of these girls on their pretentiousness and lack of spirit; they may have known what they are doing, but I think that the judges want a girl they can mold, not one who thinks she knows it all. I could not be happier that Renee did not win. She was in this competition for all the wrong reasons. First of all, if you're in a modeling competition for the sole purpose of winning money for your family, something is wrong. She reminds me of one of those girl-next-door types who is told they are pretty and, based on that, think they can make it in modeling. Her life story would make an excellent Lifetime movie, would it not? Second, if she was that concerned about money for her family, maybe she should get a job to support her son like the rest of the moms in the United States and around the world instead of blowing her time in a competition. Also, I agree with the judges: there is nothing fresh or new about her face and, yes, although pretty, it is "old" looking. Goal for next cycle: I WANNA SEE A PLUS-GAL REALLY MAKE IT!!!!

I think that renee is going to win because she is not doing this just for her own good but also to her family I tottally argee that she talks about her son and the stomach is way to thin but I want her to win and love her, she is just great at taking pictures and the camera loves her she totally should win and be Americas Next Top Modle.

Anyone who likes Renee must like people who are two-faced. Why did they all gang up on Natasha at her request - - she must be scared of some real competition. Who would want her to be America's Next Top Model, she has no class!!! Ever since the show started she's being going from one person to the next talking about them, even people that were suppose to be her friend. She stopped for a second after her cry-baby moment and then she's right back at it again. Can you imagine her at a show, talking about the sponsors and the other models to the promoters!!

I can't stand Renee either. She's really using back-stabbing tactics to win. If she thought she was as good as she thinks she wouldn't have needed to talk the other girls into ganging up on Natasha. And wasn't Natasha her friend. She's back to her same old "two-faced" way she was in the beginning and I can't believe Dionne got in with Renee when she chewed her out about being fake and two-faced a few eposides ago. Hum, so who else is fake. And anyway, Renee's features are two hard - - she looks like a man!!! I'm routing for Natasha and Jaslene.

Kathleen was the best thing that happened to ANTM we watched Kathleen for 2 hours and her personality was crazy. Ya know ya couldn't get enough of her. Kathleen was the realest girl in the house.

I love this season i think its great....and it was definetly hard 2 pick the girls but u guys pick the best 13....ok i'm sad bout kathleen haven 2 go really lik her...but kathleen i think u could hav done a little better i mean u hate fur whats so hard...well jasleen is definetly mii fav she's pretty and has all the potential 2 win...don't forget she got tat spicy latina flavorr!!!...and for her first photo she did good comparing 2 sum girls....natasha also has what it takes she's pretty and didn't do so good in her pic but i think she could mak it far...she also has a crazy background story but thats wat makes her special 2 all the other girls...ok well this season its going 2 b great!!!!!

Renee, I think, has already set herself up to be the Girl To Hate. To visibly react to Jael's placement in the bottom two and then again when Jael made it through showed that she has no class. Go home to your husband and kid, lady.

Okay I love Jael and Sarah. I miss Kathleen, she was cool. OMG I HATE NATASHA AND RENEE . I am sick of hearing about how Natasha is married to a 40yr old man and how she was telling Sarah what she did and didn't wear at a fashion show. And, Renee: What exactly are you doing for you baby? Winning a contract with Cover Girl so you can go and leave him for another chunk of time??

I do not like Renee at all..It was like shut up already! She keeps calling it a war and she gets mad at other ppl for having fun. If you want to be all intense and cometitive go ahead but don't try to make ppl be like you. Also when they told her that her photo wasn't that great she went on about missing her son. What does that have to do with anything!? I like Natasha's look and she just comes from a different culture and was brought up differently.I don't think ppl should be so hard on her.
