Veronica Mars: Don't Say Sayonara Just Yet

Veronica Mars

Veronica Mars fans, we have some good news for you: TVGuide.com reports that your favorite show might return after all!

Why? Sources point to the end of Gilmore Girls as one reason. Also, a renewal is contingent on some revisions. Creator Rob Thomas has shot a new trailer featuring Ms. Mars as an FBI agent. A title change and some cast shuffling may also take place.

It sounds to us they might as well stick Kristen Bell in a new show altogether... Would you welcome back your favorite show for a fourth season, even if it meant that almost everything you loved about the show might change drastically?

I am crazy about Veronica Mars, I already own the Season 1&2 dvd sets and I can't wait for Season. South Africa luvs you Veronica Mars !!

I am addicted to this show. The thought of it being cancelled might kill me. I refuse, REFUSE to believe that this is the end!!! Time to write letters and yell a little louder!!!!

If VM lost fans it is probably because the station stopped showing new episodes mid season. I thought it was over. I wondered what happened because I hadn't read the episode where Lam died was the season finale. I was delighted when it returned, but disheartened to hear this might be the last season. I enjoy this show and hope it returns in the fall. GO Veronica!

i'm down for more of vm as long as piz is there if hes not............. fine if u insist ill watch it

anybody notice piz on the new greys anatomy spin-off aired the other week during the regular show that was extended two hours for the additional footage, the guy at the front desk who surfs. very interesting..

*sighs* I can't believe this network is this stupid. Let me spell it out for ya'll.

Veronica Mars high school years: ratings were horrible

Veronica Mars college year: ratings are still horrible

Veronica Mars potential FBI season (midseason or regular season): will probably still be HORRIBLE!!! *gah* Just get somebody in charge up there that knows what they're doing.

Hey I'm all for another season of VM as long as LOGAN is in it!!!

I'd welcome Veronica Mars: FBI as long as Chris Lowell(Piz) and Enrico Colantoni are along for the ride!

For the love of all that is holy, can we at least keep Logan?

I adore Veronica Mars and I think that any continuation of the show is needed. You can't end a show like that. Kristen Bell is a great actress and she really makes the show. I don't know what she's doing with the whole Piz 'thing' or 'fling' might be more appropriate. But I look forward to my VM every Tuesday. I started watching on the 3rd season and it got me hooked. I bought the first two seasons and yet I still enjoy the 3rd season. A lot of people are saying "end it now" and -shrug- just DON'T watch it if it bugs you that much. If you have such strong opinions on it then you obviously still care about what happens to the characters. Either move on, or stop complaining.

All I ask for is another season!

I'm all for a 4th season. Just as long as the writers dont lose any of the wonderful cast members, and make veronica the way she was in the first/second season!!
But.. If the writers or whomever they are decide to change the name of the show?... that is just.. ridiculous! That's basically making a new show altogether!

Anna: A monkey could do a better job than Dawn Ostroff.

The Logan Show! Whoever suggested that, you rock. Preferably with Weevil, because those two play off of each other wonderfully, but to be honest, I'd watch Jason Dohring in anything. The only sad thing about Veronica Mars being cancelled is that I won't get to see Logan/Jason Dohring anymore.

>>I vote no on the FBI retooling. Let the show die with dignity.<<
Agreed, but sadly, I think it's a few years too late for that.

the reason this show deserves another season is because unlike the beautiful-braindead-teen shows, this one was selected by the American Film Institute, many critics, Stephen King, Kevin Smith, etc, as a GREAT smart brilliantly written show.

That was two years ago. Unfortunately, Veronica Mars is far from a brilliantly written show this season. I'm female, and I don't hate the Veronica character. I hate the insipid, mopey Veronica/Logan angst that has bogged down the show this season--VM won't be making any top ten lists this year. You've seen the last couple of episodes? They were awful. I vote no on the FBI retooling. Let the show die with dignity.

"I guess a lot of women would prefer yet another female character who only thinks about designer shoes and boys?"

Uh, no, Mr. DeWitt. I, for one, would prefer the Veronica of Season 1: a driven, compassionate, strong woman instead of the spoiled princess with pretty hair that she is today. You claim not to want the girl who thinks only about designer shoes and boys, but... isn't that exactly who she's become?

This network won't last for 5 years at the rate they're going!

yikes it's amazing to see how many women in this thread hate Veronica, well here's a man who finds her to be the best female character on TV: strong, funny, sexy, smart and an unshakable moral compass. I guess a lot of women would prefer yet another female character who only thinks about designer shoes and boys?

the only thing that needs to be changed is the way the show is marketed, now that the Gabmore Girls are finally off maybe the CW will start letting people know this is not just another whiny-teen blabfest.

This is so ridiculous. Even ignoring how unspeakably bad Season Three has been-- in the real world, Veronica's application to the FBI would be denied in a red hot second. They don't hire loose cannons with criminal connections to work for the FBI.

But Rob Thomas doesn't care about the facts! He just wants to keep telling the world how AWESOME Veronica is, even though she is the absolute worst thing about her own show. Vomit.

Like Anna mentioned. The ratings were pathetic - under 2mil. Remember Runaway? That's what the ratings were like and the reason the CW cancelled it. VM is losing viewers. So was GG. SV has seen a 25% decline in viewership this season as well.

The CW is on it's way to failure. They need to fire Dawn Ostroff and bring in someone who knows how to run a network.

I would watch this show regardless of the direction it goes. Rob Thomas is a great writer and if he chooses to take Veronica 4 years later and in the FBI then I say do it. Dont let this show die, almost nothing on TV is worth watching except for Veronica Mars. It is the only show I make a point of catching on a weekly basis.
DONT LET IT DIE!!!!!

The ratings for last nights episodes were pathetic! How can people take this network seriously if you keep any of these low rated shows around? It's not working. It's time to admit that and move on. Geez, even I think I could run a network better.

I was a huge supporter of VM for the first two seasons. The mysteries worked well and tuning in to see the beautiful Kristen Bell always made my day.

Unfortunately whatever this show did in season 1 and 2 has not continued in season 3. I didn't mind the rape mystery at the starting of season 3 but whatever they are doing now makes no sense to me. We go from Logan, to Piz, to Leo again? You know there has to be some kind of web for Veronica with respect to guys and since Piz is leaving at the end of the season Leo will be the guy coming back now.

In the end the show had a great first two seasons but season three has been painful to watch at times. I still love Kristen, she is my ultimate girl of whom I would love to spend one day with but the show seems to have gone in a direction I am not too impressed with.

No. I wouldn't watch a show that has no character from the original series besides Veronica. Despite the title, Veronica Mars is, or was, an ensemble show that was made more interesting by the characters and relationships in Veronica's life. If she comes back without her father, her best friend or her friend/boyfriend Logan, then it's just another FBI show.

Kristen Bell hasn't been on her game since season one. She's made Veronica someone I don't even like, much less a character I can root for. The only reason I've continued to watch is due to the supporting cast and the hopes that Rob Thomas would wake up and realize that it's not just about Veronica and that being a "bitch" does not equate to being a strong, empowered woman.

The Kristen Bell Show? No way.

The only reason I've continued to watch Veronica Mars since season 1 has been because of other characters like Logan, Weevil and Mac.

Absolutely not. Whether they use the FBI format or not, I will not be watching next season. Considering the fact that I used to be rabid about this show, it's a big deal for me to let it go, but it's got to the point where I have to unless I want to keep being depressed every week.

If they love Kristen Bell so much they should just give her a new project (though please, no) - giving her a new setting, a title change and god knows what else is basically a slap in the fact for the amazing supporting cast. In essence they're just being told "we want to continue the show, just not with you".

FYI, it's the supporting cast that have kept me watching for so long. If it weren't for them, the judgemental, bitchy, overly smug character with a false sense of superiority and righteousness that Veronica has turned into would have sent me running months ago.

Please, CW, just let it die.

I'd watch another season. The writers have created a lot of great characters and interesting stories, why shouldn't we think they can create more?

I also like the idea of advancing the show a few years. Three more years of college mysteries could get old.
Plus there's plenty of opportunity for 09-ers to make guest appearances. If they're anything like their parents they'll get in trouble with the feds.

Think of the emotional turmoil if the "unsolved" kidnapping of Meg's baby crosses Veronica's desk.

Imagine the entertainment if FBI agent Veronica is sent to Neptune and has jurisdictional conflicts with the local sheriff, aka Dad.

There's plenty of possibilities for another year or more.

Please, I've already stopped watching the show this season because of how bad it is, there's no way I'd even consider watching it next season. As far as I'm concerned everything I loved about the show has already changed drastically. Goodbye Veronica.

A season four with loads of the ensemble cast actually utilised that's a product of great writing as opposed to a last ditch attempt at resurrecting this show which has pretty much fizzled out? Sure. And the show's re-use of plot points and subtle misogyny would have to go, too.

A trite FBI series starring Kristen Bell and a slew of newbies wouldn't be Veronica Mars to me, and if this was the case I'd prefer if Kristen Bell was given a completely new pilot. (Or, a better scenario, give Jason Dohring something to stick his teeth into as he acts her socks off. I can't imagine any former fans sticking around if Logan wasn't about in some form.)

This is coming from someone who was crazily obsessed with Veronica Mars up until this season, and used to wait on tenterhooks for every episode. Give me back the gritty, innovative noir feel of the early seasons and give us a proper mystery that personally affects Veronica or her friends/family and I'd definitely give it a shot. Or, better yet, give a 13 episode order to wrap it up once and for all.

Veronica Mars is one of the best shows on TV and Veronica is the most unique character. They shouldn't give up the fight for viewers.

I love the actors and charactors of VM yet have faith in Rob that he can continue to do brilliant things with or without the current supporting cast.

Oh God! VM needs to just go away, and there is NO good reason on why VM should come back next season. The Show has had 3 years to get a BIG fan base, or at least have good ratings and 2million is good to the CW. I wish Dawn would just stop this show, Everyone knows its her Fav Show, but all she is doing making it look more and more Dumb, just stick a fork in already. Thats about the Best Dawn can do for her VM!!

Definitely NOT!

I don't buy the Veronica Mars FBI premise and think they should finally put the nail in VM's coffin.

The show *already* changed, so firing everyone except KB wouldn't even make a difference. I don't even think the CW is stupid enough to give the show it's third chance. The longer it goes on, it ruins the luster of the almost perfect first season.

It's time for the glue factory.

This season has been so freakin' boring. End it now! ugh. Why do they keep these shows on the air long after they've jumped the shark?

So what happened on tonight's episode?? KTLA pre-empted it to cover the fire in Griffith Park.

Not a chance. This show has already become The Veronica Mars Variety Show: Starring Other People. Sometimes.

Why would I tune in for more of that?

No. Veronica as played and written is the least appealing part of the show. I've only continued watching because of my investment in the supporting characters. Without them, I would have no interest in watching whatsoever.

The sooner the cancellation announcement comes, the better as far as I'm concerned.

"Now Logan and Keith have both been reduced to shells of their former selves..."

Ha ha! Well said Lilly. Though I've never once watched VM, when I read this I immediately thought of Smallville. Replace Logan and Keith with Clark and Lex and voila! Season 6 (particularly post Promise) in a nutshell.

Changing to an FBI format is not gonna change the fact that VM is the lowest rated drama on TV. The vast majority doesn't care about this girl, sorry to break it to you.

No. I'm barely watching now. I would watch a season four if Veronica mysteriously disappeared and was only seen in flashbacks ala Lilly. Then we could enjoy the fabulous supporting cast with decent storylines for once.

If they scrap the core supporting cast, namely Logan and Keith, I'm absolutely out. And even if it did continue with them, I would sorely miss anyone else cut. I loved 'Veronica Mars' for it's universe, for Neptune: the town without a middle class. I loved the wonderfully rendered ensemble who's been sorely misused this season. Veronica/Kristen Bell was never the draw for me: it was the feeling, the emotion, the interaction with the fantastic cast of characters that surrounded her. Veronica herself just isn't my cup of tea.

I also hate procedurals. And sexy pantsuits, which is one of the reasons I liked 'Veronica Mars' to begin with. It had violence and corruption and mystery without the stale FBI/Cop show procedural format.

How about a spin-off *without* Kristen Bell, about Logan? (and maybe Wallace and Weevil, as well) Veronica is not a sympathetic character any longer, and she is - in my opinion - a big part of what has gone with this show.

Give Jason Dohring his own show (Logan Echolls-based or otherwise), and I'm totally there. However, even his performance cannot overcome the atrocity that Veronica Mars has become. His character is in ruins, and if Veronica Mars is renewed, I don't see the point in bringing Logan back.

Not that I'll be watching either way.

VM:FBI is not the show I fell in love with and not a show that I want to watch.
Rob Thomas had his shot and I think he's out of ideas for VM as it is now.
If he has an idea for a new show and KB wants to go along, fine, but I will not be watching. I would miss the supporting cast too much.

I was a diehard fan during Season One, converting the vast majority of my friends and family to watch. I bought an extra DVD set for the sole purpose of sharing with my friends to introduce them to the show. To say the least, I was a rabid fan, and I loved Veronica Mars dearly.

Due to changes in the show's format and characterization (and a continued lack of interest and personal investment in the title character on my part), I have not watched the last 4 episodes, and I have no plans to watch the final 3.

The only reason I stuck with this show so long was because of the ensemble cast. I'm one of the few who never identified with Veronica, who never adored Veronica like so many did. I liked her in Season One, and I wanted her to be happy because I loved Logan and Wallace and Keith. They cared about her, so I cared about her by association.

Now Logan and Keith have both been reduced to shells of their former selves, and Wallace hardly ever appears on-screen, except to play the part of the exposition fairy.

The underutilization of the supporting cast is one of the many things that turned me off from the show in the first place. Complete scrapping of the supporting cast, in whom I invested emotionally over the first two seasons, would not make me tune back into this show, not in a million years.

I grieve for the show that once was so excellent, whose first season was so absolutely above the standard of the average television show on the air. I can no longer watch episodes because it makes me angry at all the changes in characterization and the absolute disregard for plot and emotional continuity over the course of the series.

The show changed when Veronica left for college, just as it changed once she solved Lilly's murder. Neither change was for the better, but this past season has been heartbreaking in the ruin its become.

WHat?!!! NO!! I love the other characters! As much as I love Veronica, I continue watching the show other characters especially Logan! It would be a totally different show without them!!

No chance in hell.

Absolutely not. And I used to be a fanatical fan.

"They might as well stick Kristen Bell in a different show" is right. I wish they would stick her somewhere. Her shrill, over-the-top acting (to say nothing of scary make-up) this season is one of several reason this show is getting more and more un-watchable.

Without the rest of the still wonderful but sadly misused core cast it would be downright unbearable. Granted, "Veronica Mars" has not been the same show we fell in love with all year. Still, without Logan, Keith, Wallace (who has been barely there, anyway), Weevil (ditto) and Mac, what's the point? The viewers who loved the real "Veronica Mars" have either already stopped watching or keep coming back for the glimpses of the characters they love. And if the idea is to get new viewers, why even associate it with "Veronica Mars"?

Call it "Kristen Bell Project: Me, Myself, and FBI."

First of all, I can't even begin to realize that the CW would want to bring back a show that rates only half as much as Telemundo!

And why not just ditch the whole show and give Kristen another show? Clearly VM is not working in the ratings. Just put it out of its misery...if it gets renewed, we all know that it won't increase in viewership - by year 4 noless - and that it's just going to be sent off to hiatus after hiatus next year. God almighty....

Why would you make it a whole new show with just Veronica in it? That's... idiotic. You may as well cancel the show altogether if you're going to do that.

Let's not kid ourselves: Even is the show is brought back, which in my opinion is a horror inducing prospect, the show peaked at the end of season 1 and has been on the decline ever since. Parts of season 2 were salvageable but season 3 has been nothing less than a complete farce. To top it off, just when you think things can't get worse RT and company comes up with the most ludicrous idea ever: Veronica Mars FBI Agent Extraordinaire! Forget the fact that Veronica has a complete and notable disregard for authority and bureaucracy, let's magically put her in a highly selective government agency and have her solve federal cases in her early twenties. Another huge problem with this scenario is the fact that the TV show would be have JUST Veronica returning. Without the supporting cast it will not be the same show, period. CW would do just as well coming up with an FBI based show about a whole new character. It would certainly be more interesting and plausible. I think Veronica Mars should accept defeat and realize that continuing the show would just be an insult to the network and the viewers. Let it die with a small modicum of dignity, at least.

No I would not watching, and to tell the truth I have stopped watching. VM has lost it's spark and interest, and has just become Veronica: Pretty Pretty Princess.

Absolutely not. Since I have grown to loath Veronica and watch the show only for the other characters, I definitely would not welcome back the show with just her.

No. This show has had 3 seasons to prove itself and it hasn't. It's time to give the slot to a more deserving series. I like the show, but I feel I have to be honest. And I don't think I'd like it at all if they changed everything about the series. Just cancel it and put it out of its misery.

Absolutely not.

If I wanted to watch a show about agents and procedural stuff, I would watch CSI or The Closer or whatever.

This FBI crap is not what I watch VM for.

And a show with just Kristen Bell? No thank you, she's one of the reasons I'm growing tired of the show.

I also can't imagine VM without Jason Dohring. Lose him, and love me as a viewer. Sorry.

Absolutely not.

I am saddened by the non-renewal of Gilmore Girls. However, the sooner Veronica Mars is permanently gone, the better. What was once, in season 1, a great show has become a superficial, hateful and degrading to women monstrosity. I remember when I would've been proud to let my daughter watch Veronica. That time is long since past.

As long as it's the same characters in the show I'm totaly up for a fourth season! :) I was so upset to hear they might get rid of the show, anything is better than that!

OMG! yay!! I will always love VM, but for it to change drastically? I'm not sure if I'm all for it. Well at least I hope Jason Dohring is still in it.

Of course. Anything that Rob Thomas does is unique and exciting. Every show changes so whatever happens I will watch
