Hidden Palms: A Boozy Benefit... And IMs From The Dead

Johnny and Greta get closer

We definitely preferred last night's episode to the premiere -- way more stuff happened and the ending was sufficiently creepy (we have to admit we jumped a little!). Johnny's IM stalker turned out to be... Eddie. Eddie who we thought was dead! Huh!? Is it his ghost -- or did he never die at all?

Let's rewind. At the beginning of the episode, thanks to Cliff, we found out that Eddie killed himself (not that Cliff seems like the most reliable source!). Like poor Johnny hasn't been through enough! Rehab, his dad's suicide, his mom's too-quick new marriage, a move to Palm Springs... and now he's living in the same BEDROOM where a teen suicide took place? How much bad luck can one guy have?

What bad luck Johnny has had recently is (almost) balanced out by his amazing luck with women. The guy has them crawling out of the woodwork -- and they're all equally into him. There's enigmatic Greta, geeky Liza, and now ex-girlfriend from rehab Nikki. Did you like Nikki?

Nikki's arrival spiced things up immediately. Just by showing up, she brought the tension when a love triangle inadvertently formed between her, Johnny and Greta. And then she took the benefit from black-tie to Beyoncé with her unwelcome drunken dance moves onstage.

While Nikki got completely wasted, Johnny and Greta tightened their bond. She learned about his past in rehab and his dad's suicide, and he found out a little more about Eddie. Greta's really secretive about the whole Eddie thing, and Johnny noticed her tensing up every time Cliff showed up.

Speaking of Cliff, what's his deal? Is he just a smooth talker with a slightly creepy vibe, or could he actually be some kind of psychopath/murderer? Clearly we're not meant to trust him, but we can't figure out just how bad the guy is.

So what'd you guys think? Did you like how the mystery developed? What about Nikki's arrival and Eddie's creepy reveal? Tell us your thoughts!

HIDDEN PALMS IS DA BEST

this show is really great! but i accidently missed it yesterday because i was away and i was hoping i would find the episode on this site. so guess i'm just suggesting to the site that they put the shows online in case someone wants to watch it again!

i totally think that cliff killed Eddie and greta knew about it and never said anything. i think that cliff killed him because he loves greta and didnt want anyone but him to be with her.

Ummm... What does Liza know about Edyy's death it makes no sense!?!?!? And how does she have the viedo of Eddy and why is she pretending to be Eddy?

i'm so confused but i still love this show!!!

Omg I dont know if Cliff killed Eddie or if Greta killed him. Well g2g watch more of Hidden Palms.

Sounds like this program is on it's way out. I came across the following on Pifeedback.

"This "stalking" reminds me of the stalker in One Tree Hill. It seems like a show trying to compete with One Tree Hill using different characters. I did watch the episode and it kept my attention, but it's pretty hard to be OTH."

Yes yes. I AGREE with that. This show needs to have its own unique style. One tree hill so beats this show so it might as well not even try to compete with it. It's fake,k? It's obvious Eddie isnt a ghost. And I already could think of a couple possible ways why Eddie is the stalker. H

I liked it a lot and i cant w8 to see what happens next. About the "stalker" thing i think its Cliff i dont trust him, he def. likes Greta, and u can tell he doesnt want Johnny and Greta together. As for the mystery i LOVE it!!

Doh! You're right. We'll see if Schwartz gets it right in Gossip Girl.

"I did laugh at the deliberately multicultural party scenes -- it seems Josh Schwartz learned something from all the criticism of how unrelentingly white The OC tended to be."

You do know this is a Williamson production and not a Schwartz one right? Josh Schwartz is doing Gossip Girls. This is Kevin Williamson's little baby :)

I liked this episode a lot more than the pilot -- it sort of found its feet, you know?

I actually really liked Nikki -- and felt sorry for her when Johnny kind of abandoned her. I know he wasn't responsible for her, or anything, but he did bring her into a party full of drinking and left her there to pursue Greta, instead of giving her support. That was kinda schmuck-like, Johnny.

Do you think Cliff guessed about the rehab situation, and was purposefully sabotaging her sobriety, or was he just being his standard not-take-no-for-an-answer smarmy self?

Johnny -- you're also an idiot about Cliff. "I think I can hold my own?" Oh, you're in for trouble, dork.

i agree with u on its to predictable.....

Obviously the real "stalker" wouldn't be revealed so soon. When the computer showed a figure in a mask, I thought "Eddie". Then, Johnny noticed he was in the same room as the figure in the video. The figure took off his mask as what do you know...it was Eddie. Johnny's stalker isn't Eddie, though. The stalker just sent him (part of) a video that Eddie made before his "suicide". I think it's Greta. Why? There are only 2 people that we know would have a video of Eddie: Greta and Cliff. (Eddie probably made the video as a special joke for one or both of them.) Greta's going to bring Johnny into "Eddie's World" as a way to tell Johnny what happened to Eddie without having to look him in the eye. It was apparent in the Pilot that she has guilt over what "she and Cliff" did to Eddie which I believe was have sex behind Eddie's back. Cliff had (still has) a thing for Greta, was jealous of Eddie, therefore manipulated Greta into having sex with him. Cliff probably told Eddie hoping to break them up. All three probably argued, then parted and Eddie apparently killed himself. Or did Cliff go back and kill Eddie - intentionally or accidentally - and make it appear like a suicide? Greta blames herself thinking that if she didn't allow Cliff to manipulate her then she wouldn't have hurt Eddie and he would still be alive.

I do think there is a possibility that Eddie is alive somewhere - possibly comatose in a special care facility.

Nikki: don't like the actress (if you can call her one) or the character. Smiling alot is not a bad thing unless it makes you look annoyingly psychotic.

Do I like how the "mystery" is unfolding? Not really, too predictable. IMO: HP would have been better as a movie.
