Supernatural: Merry Christmas from The Winchesters?
In an interview with SciFi Wire about the upcoming season of Supernatural, Eric Kripke lobbed out an interesting idea for a holiday special. We have no idea whether it will actually be filmed, but we couldn’t help but wonder about it.
"We'll never run out [of material] as long as they keep us on the air," Kripke said. "I just found a urban legend about the anti-Claus, an evil Santa Claus, the one who doesn't come to give you gifts, the one who comes to punish you when you're naughty. It's called the Belsnickel in Maryland. And we were like, 'Great. The Supernatural Christmas episode.' So there's sort of no limit to those episodes."
Like we said, no clue if Kripke is serious about the idea, but it sounds like it could be a great antidote to the “Very special holiday episodes” most other shows run at that time of year – the ones that talk about love and togetherness and trust of ones fellow man. We can see it now: “This is for all the damn underwear I got in my Christmas stocking, you evil bastard! I asked for a Nintendo, not y-fronts!”
Kripke also says the overarching mythology of Season Three will be a lot easy to grasp than that of Season Two: "I feel the mythology was great in season one. I think the stand-alones were great in season two. But I think the mythology of season two was just okay. It was too complicated. It wasn't as visceral as 'find dad.' And in season three we're back to a really visceral mythology, which is 'It's war, what do we do?' And so we're really excited about that mythology, and we feel, again, it's going to be the most exciting season yet.”
Kripke says we can expect plenty of stand-alone goodness coming up as well. Which do you prefer, mythology episodes, like All Hell Breaks Loose and Born Under a Bad Sign, or stand-alones, like Folsom Prison Blues or Tall Tales? And would you want to see a holiday special? Tell us what you think!

I personally like the stick to the story eps, the ones that be continue back to back. Dont get me wrong the stand alones are fun but I prefer sticking to the plot(THE WAR). But myself would love another WEREWOLF ep useing a true beast. Please think about it Eric, Thank you

The stand alones are good but the mytholoyg episodes are the best because they go back to what the show is about & what it started on; however, a creepy christmas episode would be super cool especially one about a killer Santa!

I think that both seasons have been really awesome. I agree some of the standalones in Season 1 weren't my favorites but in Season 2 they were all amazing. I don't agree that the mythology in Season 2 was all that confusing, but I am glad he decided to clear the slate for Season 3, it makes it more interesting and that move is one of the many things that makes Supernatural one of the most original shows on TV!
As to a Christmas episode I say bring it on! I too have been waiting for them to do one and it sounds like they've got a great idea, so why not? And looking down the list of comments so far I think Kripke would have a lot of fan support if he decided to go ahead with the idea!

Truthfully, I like a nice, healthy mix of the two. I think that is what makes the show interesting. You have this long arc but then you have mini-stories. And I also love how they throw in a completely funny one every once in awhile.
The Christmas episode sounds good, and so very Supernatural-esque. Then Anti-Christmas episode. Hee!

I love the idea of a SN Xmas, I hope they go ahead with it.
As far as the different eps go, I just love them all, LOL. The standalones are great as a distraction from the main story, but I love the mythogical eps because it continues their story. BRING ON SEASON 3 & 4 & 5 & 6........well, you get the idea. LOL.

The SN Christmas special sounds great!! After all, we're tired of all the love and "good will towards men" by mid-Dec.! Eric Kripke--bring it on!! That's why we love SN so much--the layers upon layers of plot and character development has brought TV to a whole new level!! Thank you EK and everyone at SN!!

I don't understand what Kripke means about the mythology in Season 2, I loved it! It's that's too difficult to understand then I worry that (with the addition of the unwanted girls) he's trying to dumb the show down or he doesn't think much of the viewers that enjoyed it. I can't stand that he just dismissed it out of hand - like he was 'bored' or sick of it, when it was great TV.
I loved Season 1 too and although it was different to Season 2 I don't feel the need to diss it.
I'm not gonna like 'the war' if it's just an excuse to get Ruby and Bela in the stories. Yuk.
I like standalones, but mainly I want Season 3 to be about Sam saving Dean and Dean realising he has to leave Sam to fight alone - that's what's important.

I like both the stand alone episodes, and mythology ones.
As for a Christmas episode. I've been wanting one of those, since season one. Do it Kripke! Please.
