I completely agree with the previous comment. The demon part of Ruby needs to find another host. Heck, have her possess Jo, or Sarah the art girl from season one, and you've got a whole 'nother layer of story and character to play with. I'd love to see Alona Tal playing evil, actually.

Don't have her possess Ellen though, 'coz Ellen would kick her ass.

Note to Kripke: Ruby IS an intriguing character and great addition to Season 3, but I have one suggestion to make after seeing 3 episodes with Katie Cassidy. When the Miss Cassidy has filmed her contract episode minimum, please exorcise Ruby and hire an actress who's creative and experienced and thus can handle this complex role. Honestly, Miss Cassidy is not doing Ruby justice. Her Ruby reminds me of the girl in high school who thinks she's-all-that-and-thensome, but everyone knows she's not. This season so far has been filled with intellect except for Ruby due to Katie's performance. Demons are ancient beings, which is something everyone should keep in mind when reviewing Katie's bratty rendition of Ruby. (Also, the ketchup scene reminded me more of Al Bundy not Sharon Stone or Angelina Jolie)

One other point I want to make: Who Katie is off camera isn't important to me? What matters is her performance which doesn't come close to Nikki Aycox's "Meg".

thank you for your time

Supernatural Fan

I really enjoyed this interview, and I like even more the fact that Ruby likes to play mind games. I cannot wait to see how all this plays out as the season wears on. I've been excited about her addition all summer, and it looks like Kripke is not going to fail us!

First I want to say...Kripke..please put our boys back together. Second, I really like Ruby. I think Katie is doing a great job, and I think the character can lead to very interesting things.

That said...KRIPKE!! FOR THE LOVE OF WHATEVER GOD YOU PRAY TO...PLEASE GIVE US BACK SAM AND DEAN..I like to see the boys figure out things together. I like seeing the boys work as a team to kick some demon ass. I love the brotherly dynamic, it was what the show was based on. Please don't take that from us. Please. *gives you Sams puppy dog eyes*

Thanks. :)

Like the idea of a demon "stalking" Sam but don't think that KC was the right choice, she is so undemonlike and her acting leaves a lot to be desired. And we need more Sam and Dean together without anyone else.

I am finding that I may have been too quick to judge Ms. Cassidy, as I am really enjoying Ruby (afterall, who doesn't like a bada$$ female?) and think that Katie is turning in a fine performance.

Dee, I'm so with you here; those of you who consider yourselves true fans of the show really need to chill and give this season a chance. After all our hard work to promote the show and angsting over a possible third season, I'm disappointed that so many people are ready to write this series off (you know who you are). We need to continue to trust in the Kripke and just know that he has our best interests at heart. (Of course, I do have to admit that I'm missing the screen time between the boys as well! Kripke, are you reading this?!)

Katie Cassidy I am jealous that you get to train with such a cool teacher five days a week! Lucky girl.

I'm enjoying Ruby's character so far. I think she's funny, and her cool demon killing knife fits right in with the show's arsenal o' special weapons: The Winchesters have a special gun in the colt, Bobby gave them special medallions to ward off possession, Sam has a special brain that has visions and can possibly move things (what that totally counts) and Dean's got a decorative and possibly special horned amulet.

I'm excited to see where the writers take this character and how she helps to expand the show's mythology.

I, against all my previous expectations, happen to like Ruby's character.

Okay, not so much the magic knife bit, but the whole demon twist is pretty interesting and makes her at least a little bit less Mary Sue, IMO.

And I kinda like the way Katie plays Ruby, kinda reminds me of Jessica from Heroes.

Ruby just still looks too much like a Barbie to my liking, but I still have faith in Kripke and in Supernatural and I'm liking where the plot is going so far, especially with Sam's storyline.

But it bothers me too that the brothers so far have spent more screen time apart than together. I'm really hoping for this to change, since Kripke swore that the show IS about the brothers and is gonna be kept that way.

I really hope this happens.

Katie's going to be alright. She needs to get a few episodes under her belt, but she'll probably come out a bad ass demon slayer/demon. Don't know how it will work but it should be cool.

Great interview Jason C. Was she cool? You two seemed to get along well.

I am loving season three, and very much enjoyed the twist on Ruby's character that emerged in 3.02. These first episodes are setting up situations to be resolved throughout the season, and are still managing to scare and connect in their own right.

So many people leapt to judgment before this season began and decided ahead of time to hate any female characters that were introduced, and I think that is just sad. The show is brilliantly on its game, and the boys are better than ever. Ruby's turned out to be interesting, and as for her claiming to be able to help save Dean - well, there's this little thing about how demons lie. If you wanted to get close to Sam and try to get him to trust you, what would you offer? Exactly what Ruby has ... This will get interesting.

And I'm very curious to see what interesting twists we get with Bela as well.

I trust The Kripke ...

Not working for me - feel sorry Kripke employed someone so green. We've see amazing stuff from J and J, Ruby is not up to snuff. Get the boys back together pronto. I like other characters like Sara and Meg and Bobby and Ellen and Andy and Ava, but not starlets shoved down my throat.

I've been saving my judgement of Ruby for two episodes, and to be honest, I'm not impressed. I don't think that Katie Cassidy can carry the part and I find the knife an irritating piece of deus ex machina - it makes things too easy.

However, I'm probably more disappointed that Dean and Sam have been separated more often than together in the episodes we've seen so far, and will probably continue to be, judging from the sides/spoilers of upcoming episodes.

What made this show special was the chemistry between Jared and Jensen, and the contrast between the Winchester's lives, the things they hunted and the rest of world. Supernatural felt grounded in reality, you could suspend disbelief and believe that it might really happen somewhere. I liked the gritty realism and the dark sets, and the whatdunnit episode structure really made for a scary and intriguing ride. To me, those were Supernatural's strengths. These cast additions and the demon-war mytharc they've got lined up for this season seem to detract from the core concepts and the strengths that carried Supernatural through the days of clunky dialogue, bad guest stars and the occasional predictable plot. I miss seeing that onscreen - instead I am stuck with the clunky dialogue, a dumbed down Dean as comic relief, cutesy plots with baby-daddies and rabbit's feet, characters I don't care about, a plot that's losing it's grounding in reality and bad actresses.

It really seems as though Supernatural's destined to become an ensemble. Other shows have tried to stretch a twosome into a moresome in the past and ultimately tanked. I just really don't want that to happen to Supernatural.

i think that ruby does have to step her game up..she's not doing enough but im sure it will get better.I cant waite for the other actress (bella)to join i hope she bring some of the old supernatrul back.I kind miss sam and dean being in sceans together

I personally think it's way to soon to judge the new characters. I think that Ruby could be a great twist to the story line of the show. I wasn't sure that I'd like Katie Cassidy but so far, so good. In my opinion, the show doesn't need hot chicks to get better ratings but I think they could do something for the plot.

As far as being Sam's love interest, she's way too blunt for him. She seems more like Dean's type. But I'll guess we'll see when Bela's introduced. And she's got an accent, that should be interesting.

I know a lot of people think Katie is a barbie, and yes she does seem like it. But give her more than two episodes to judge her on, give the girl time.

*And cue the girl with the magic knife to kill all the demons*

Watched Charmed, the way the show went out was with new characters who were brought in to "boost" ratings, and potions were used to vanquish all the demons. Now the same thing is happening on Supernatural. Just now it's a magic knife.

I'm sure the character Ruby would work fine if there wasn't too much information about her was given out about her over the summer. And I would probally enjoy Ruby more had she not burst in with a mystic magical knife and saved the day. I figured I'd wait to judge Ruby after seeing her for more than five minutes, and Katie doesn't seem to have the connection, IMO, Eric was hoping for between Sam and Ruby. And she seems really bad. Thought the samething about Jo, didn't like the character and believed it was Alnoa's acting, but it was the writers. With Ruby, I think the character can work, but Katie isn't doing the character justice.

And Sharon Stone was an inspiration? Good god, what about Meg, Dean from Skin, or Sam from BUABS. Or even John for that matter from DT, or the various guys playing the YED? Ava in AHBL part 2? All were evil at some point and worked.

Oh my god, I never thought I'd be calling fellow Supernatural fans immature, but that's what you guys are acting like! This season is different? So what? It's still amazing!! Ruby's an interesting character, Kate is obviously pumped to play her, Jensen and Jared are still awsome, and Supernatural is STILL the BEST SHOW ON TV!! Tell me what's the problem here?

I have very mixed feelings about litte miss hunter barbie. I dont like the fact that she has been really snoby and acting all high and mighty the first few times i saw her, buti think it would be really good to have another character sort of like Meg's on the show, I also am all for her helping Sam save Dean which is all that really matters to me.

I think it was really messed up to separate sam and Dean like that. they were bearly together in the episode. i watch supernatural to watch jense and jared together. i serously do not like the idea that sam and Dean going do things separetly with these two new girls. As for Ruby, i don't really get the strong, Manupulative vive from her character. Meg made a better impression in her first appearence.

I cannot believe they played the race card with a Demon. That's not offensive at all.

Also Cassidy is too much of a lightweight to make Ruby truly intriguing. Maybe she'll get better but snotty does not equate with menacing in my book. Maybe she should watch Jensen in Skin to see how it's done or Jared in BUABS or even the second Crossroads Demon.

Too bad because I was actually looking forward to the new characters. That's strike 1.

The only thing that changed in 3.02 is that Ruby went from Hunter!barbie to glitter!demon. God, I think I'd die if she and Sam hooked up and had little demon babies. *gags*

I miss my SamandDean. They were together for like, 5 minutes of the episode. I didn't like how their storylines branched apart and kept them from interacting with each other.

The whole show is moving too fast. All of the 7 Deadly Sins were conveniently exorcised in one episode, Ruby conveniently had that knife, and now Ruby conveniently has a way to save Dean. Since when are things this convenient on SPN? I don't buy it. I'd rather have Sam find a way by himself.

I was really pissed off about 3.02. I didn't like the Ben storyline, it was so tired and the "Dean-bonds-with-a-child" thing was already done in Dead in the Water AND Something Wicked, remember? And now they threw in Ruby, and then there's "the other girl" being introduced in the next episode. I'm not getting my hopes up.

I really, really want to trust Kripke, but I can't help but feel like this show is going in the wrong direction.

I love her!! She is gonna be a really cool character & I can't wait to see more. Katie, so far you have done an AWSOME job. Two thumbs up!!!

While I think that Ruby's character has potential, I really think that KC is going to need to step up her game. I saw her in tonight's episode and while she didn't make me cringe, a lot of time she came across more as a stuck-up snob over a bad-ass b*tch. She needs to learn to be sublter if she wants me to believe that she can be manipulative and she needs to learn to be darker and harder. IMO, what would do her some good is going back and reviewing some of Nikki Aycox's episodes as Meg and learning to channel her attitude. If she can pull that off, then I think that Ruby is definately a character that won't bother me at all!

Okay, I have given Ruby two episodes to win me over and it's not working. Another actress in this role might have been able to win over the fans and pull off Ruby, but Katie can't.

Kripke, what are you doing to Supernatural? I watch the show for Sam and Dean, not for Amazing Knife Wielding Blonde Girl Who Knows All and Can Kick Butt Better Than the Winchesters. I am not there to see Mary Sue do everything better than our boys.

Please bring back the original premise of SPN - Sam and Dean hunting evil TOGETHER. Separating Jared and Jensen for nearly every scene is not working.

I found her character really annoying in tonight's episode. Did she really just say she watched Basic Instinct for inspiration? Ew.

I'm liking her more and more as we go. Her first interviews over the summer did not endear her to nay fans, but I feel like she proved herself big time in The Kids Are Alright. I like her.

Way to go, Katie. :D

Well. I have nothing to say about the actress, I don't know her at all save for what I've seen here in the interview, and in the show last week, (won't get to see this weeks show till tomorrow night, DRAT!) and I may change my mind as time goes on...

BUT, for now, as an SPN character, I have to say I'm left singin' Peggy Lee... Is that all there is? Long blond hair, a pout and a magic knife?

I'm not against new characters, I'm not against new female characters, heck, I'm not even against a love interest, IF it's done the right way, IF the character sells me....

I actually really liked Cassidy in The Kids Are Alright and even though she wasn't amazing in this interview I've grown to like her. I think if we all step into this with open minds we can appreciate the characters the writers are setting up.
As far as the hunter Barbie thing - I have to agree with you. She doesn't really look the part, now does she?
-sigh-

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT WGN (WB) AND (CW) STAND FOR...I
WATCH & LISTEN TO WGN ALL THE TIME & NEVER HEAR WHAT THESE (?) STAND FOR.

TYVM PAT

I thought this interview with Katie was delightful, and to me Katie came across as genuinely excited about her role. I found her excitement infectious and I am really looking forward to seeing the rest of season three and what new twists and turns are in stall for us and the Windchester brothers.

This interview is NOT endearing the character of Ruby to a good portion of Supernatural fans. And no, I am not a jealous hater. I just thought this show was about two brothers, not Hunter Barbie.

However, I am looking forward to seeing Bela introduced. That character has potential from the script slides I've seen.
