Supernatural: Good Luck, Bad Luck and No Luck At All

Dean ponders his luckOk, that was just loads of fun – and a nice balance to last week’s creep-fest. We loved watching the boys do all that physical comedy – pratfalls, slapstick fight sequences, over-the-top disasters. What was your favorite slapstick moment?

We also loved seeing how the boys reacted to the luck – both good and bad. Sam was suspicious and bewildered by his run of good luck, both because he knew it couldn’t last and because there’s a part of him that seems to think good things happening to him are just wrong. That made his reactions when his luck turned all the more entertaining – he just does hangdog suffering so well! How adorable was he when he lost his shoe in the sewer, or when he reacted to the fire in his hotel room? He just knew this was going to happen!

Dean, on the other hand, is a live-in-the-moment kind of guy. Yeah, the rabbit’s foot is evil, but they might as well take advantage of their luck as long as they can. We loved his gleeful turn during the fight scene in Sam’s hotel room – “I’m Batman!” But even with that happy-go-lucky attitude, he’s still able to take care of business and think on his feet. We loved his solution when Bela confronted them at the curse-removal ritual. She’s a girl who only responds to self-interest, so the only thing he could do was make their interests intersect. Good move, Dean!

Speaking of Bela – what did you think of her? We kind of love her – there’s something refreshing about a character who really doesn’t care about good or evil or anything but her own comfort. We wouldn’t want to see her all the time, but she’ll be fun in small doses.

And in between all the good luck/bad luck action, there were plenty of other developments to keep up interested. Gordon returns – he’s still in prison, but we have a feeling that won’t last for long. He’s still convinced that Sam Winchester must die – heck, he seems to say that every other sentence – and he’s not going to listen to anyone who says any different. He’s enlisted help from other Hunters, so that ratchets up the tension.

Sam tells Dean about Ruby being a demon, which made us cheer. Apparently, the guys learned their lesson about keeping secrets! Hooray! Plus, there was John’s hidden storage locker. It contained everything from land mines (yipe!) to Sam’s soccer trophy and Dean’s first sawed-off shotgun. Wow. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention how good it is to see Bobby, even if he’s just yelling at the guys over the phone. Hi, Bobby! We love you!

So what about you? Did this episode live up – or down – to your expectations? Vote in our polls, and tell us what you think in the comments!

Which are the more believable (and better acted) antagonists of the Winchesters?:

Gordon and Kubrik

or

Ruby and Bela

Hmmm....too obvious...

:D supernatural is the besterest :D
this episode was hilarious :)

Enjoyed the ep - love when the comedy is added as both actors are great at it.

Was a bit worried when I saw the pilot that I wouldn't enjoy S.3 - the pilot had too much jammed into the ep. and dispatched these great demons a little too easily. Having said that the writing, directing and acting were EXCELLENT as per usual !! Also glad to see that Dean, even though he still wants to have fun for the 1st time in his life 'cause 1yr-to-live-thing, is getting back to being serious about his 'job' - hunting demons. Pilot Dean was a bit to irreverent towards the demons - afraid that S.3 Dean was going to be a caricature of S1&2 Dean but I have been proven wrong - hurrah!

REALLY REALLY like Bela (both character and actress Lauren Cohen) - she's a female Dean !! I could see her sticking around into Season 4 and becoming like a mischievous little sister to the boys!

Ruby's character is great for the 'saving-Dean plot' and there were clues in the pilot (that great writing again) that gave away she wasn't a normal mortal but the reveal DID still surprise me as I thought she was a witch and not a demon or is that the same thing ??? Having said that the JJ's are going to have to take Katie Cassidy under their respective wings and teach her to act evil - I mean the girl is just too All-American-Girl-Next-Door. She's a sweetie and just can't look mean let alone evil - guys you've got to help her with this.

Sooooo looking forward to tonight's episode 'Sin City' and the rest of the season.

Stay warm (Canada's starting to get colder) and rock on !!!

This episode was made of AWESOME! I thought I'd die laughing! I genuflect in the direction of Ben Edlund, who penned a fabulous episode, with plenty of backstory and a serious yet funny plot... And Jared! Jared did some of the best pratfalling I've seen in *years*, his expressions were priceless, and his acting was superb. It's always great to see Bobby in an ep, even if only on the other end of the phone. Not sure I like Bela - as someone else said, the character isn't very convincing, and seems a bit two-dimensional... well, maybe she'll improve. All in all, an excellent episode - 5 stars!

I love this episode!!! Dean making Sam do the scratch and win tickets, Sam falling when the guys run out of the restaurant they seem so graceful until Sam tripped over himself.

Yes, Jesus-Loving guy was awesome. Everytime he was on screen I snickered. I hope to see more of him and Gordon in the near future (which, I'm sure we will :D)

I like Ruby a lot (I'm not a big Cassidy fan but I have to admit she did good acting the part) but the fact that her and Bela (Who, in my opinion, was not very convincing...but very hot, I'll give her that) are regs still...irks me somewhat.

Can't wait for next week, though!

I thought this episode was so freaking good that i had pains in my stomick from laughing so hard.. and i've been keeping an open mind the whole time about having Ruby and Bela on the show and i have got to say i realy enjoyed seeing them and i find that its so kool that ruby's a deamond by the way but i hope we see these to girls alot more all four of these people together and you got one kick ass show..

later .... keep it up Jensen, Jared,Lauren and Katie

There has not bee one episode that i didn't like...what can you say the shows perfect...whatever they do they do it great so even if im not sure of something I always have faith in the show...(like im not sure about gordens new crazy friend and how hes "into jesus" but im sure i won't be dissapionted i never am because they play these characters so well you can't really ask for anything different its all perfect

this show is gonna stay on for a long time you can tell its magnificent! lol

action, drama, comedy, suspense, and two amasingly hot boys kickin ass every week

yah i hope its gonna be here for a while it deserves to.

Loved this episode as the boys were back together as it should be in all episodes. Jared and Jensen were wonderful as always. Kudos to them both. Sam looked so like a little boy when he said he lost his shoe and Dean's response was so big brother like. Wonderful.

Thought Bela was a waste of space and her storyline is good for a one off but no more. The actress was OK but not exceptionally good. Like KC, a light weight compared to others.

Now Gordon and his henchman that could work and work better than both new girls and their contrived and cliche story lines.

Hilarious episode with great performances by Jared & Jensen and all the guest actors.

Wonderful script by Ben Edlund!

"i lost my shoe" 'nuff said

Did anyone else laugh uncontrolably when that Jesus-loving guy went "lie, lie lie" to Sam?

if not, watch the ep again. i laugh so hard every time.
he was kinda creepy after a while though.

Luuuvvvvvv the epi, men it was great! I couldn't stop laughing, & the Batman thingy was an icing on the cake!!

Dear Show,

I was as apprehensive as the next fangirl about Ruby and Bela, (aka tweedle-ho and tweedle-hum). But I'm WAY over being apprehensive... here are two characters that I really couldn't care less about, at least at this point (giving you the benefit of the doubt). For two people that I'm going to have to watch a fair bit this season, that isn't a good sign.

Please, Show? Bring back Missouri and Ellen, if you want sassy kick-ass keep the boys on their toes women on the show.

I loved the boys this episode, Show.. they're back to being the boys that I expect to visit every week.

Ah... you knew all along that John was just a sentimental softie when it came to his kids, didn't you Show? Me too.

Your fangirl,

Ontheotherhand

Loved the episode! The pratfall moments wre wonderful. Jared's expressions were right-on as he suffered from so many bad luck moments. My favorite was the look on his face when he lost his shoe! It made me want to hug him and tell him eberything would be ok.

Loved seeing Bobby again--he has become a father figure to the boys!

I haven't made up my mind about Bella yet! I'm still debating on that!

Oh my gosh...this whole episode made me so happy.
Like. Every single part. It was cute and brotherly but also hilarious and GORDY WAS ON AND OMG I JUST LOVED IT *g*

(Bela = only downside. I just was not convinced by her acting...especially the part where she's talking on the phone..but anyways OMG GORDON *G*)

This episode was just great! I mean they all are but it was nice to see things under a lighter mood. It also very interesting to watch the actors performing in a different record than usual. Great rythm, clever jokes and a hint of mistery to keep the viewers turned in. This was very X-Files meets 007 meets Monty Python... LOL

This was a really fun episode with lots of laughs and little gem moments, like Sam and Dean in their father's storage room. And I'm loving Bobby more and more each time I see him.

We wouldn’t want to see her all the time, but she’ll be fun in small doses.

ITA with this...as long as Bela stays a cold hearted, self-serving character she should be a lot of fun to watch, but I also believe that less is more in this case.

Starting with the brothers.
Sam was super-duper cute when he lost his shoe! And also when he was sitting in his motel room. Jared did a great job!
Dean. Well... 'I'm Batman!' says it all. Hopefully, next time Dean'll pay attention of were Bela's hands are.
Speaking of Bela...the character wasn't too bad. I enjoyed her actually. Well, except when she shot Sam!
Gordan. Hate the guy but he makes the show interesting.
Awww...how sweet of John to keep the soccer trophy.
Of course, Bobby's always a joy to watch. Even if he's screaming at the boys.
Last but not least,I'm glad that Sam didn't keep the truth about Ruby a secret.

I can not say much, my jaws are hurting so bad, I laughed so hard...*lol*
Batman comment...just what can I say, my stomach is hurting too....*lol*

there is nothing that Jensen and Jared cannot do good...love our boys. love our show...

For Bela...she is cool, but I absolutely do not want her to turn into love interest for any of boys, becasue then it will be too predictable...first hate her and then fall in love with her...Nah, she should be just a sweet torture for our boys nothing else...Please

BATMAN!!!!!!

Oh Dean I love you to pieces!

Dean makes everything better even when Puppy loses his shoe. Which by the way Sammy is adorable when he pouts.

I can't vote on any bits of this episode because it was so weird and un-SPN-like I was bizzarroed out.
That's still not Dean.
I can hardly watch my fave show and feel like crying.
Bela has got to go, Cohan cannot act so if Dean got with her it would be the deal-breaker.
Bye-bye.

PS When are the real Winchester brothers coming back?

First off : this ep kicked butt. :)

Don't get me wrong...I've liked the season so far except for Sam seemed to have aged several years and become all dark and brooding while Dean appeared to have a goal of sleeping his way through the USA and acting like his death sentence was a ticket to paradise instead of fire and brimstone. I missed the brotherly vibe. Big time.

But this ep changed it all. Thank you thank you thank you! The desaturation look was back, angles were perfect and the lighting to die for.

There were so many memorable lines in this one...too many to count! I was laughing so hard I about fell off the couch. :) "Oh, don't go away angry. Just go away." "I'm amazing. I'm Batman!" "Aren't you a glass half full". And a personal favourite from Dean: "See, I happen to be able to READ people."

The brothers were back and being wonderfully snarky to one another ("Wow. You suck." "Hey! Back off, Jinx."). Dean was definately in big bro mode (plenty of Jensen's trademark SOB moments) with Sam being the ever adorable clutzy little bro. Jared/Jensen played it perfectly and I would have LOVED to see the outtakes. They both have amazing timing and it's good to see them "clicking" again. I wanted to hug 'em. I missed that brotherly love.

Loved the trip to Daddy's vault and finding out that Bobby was the one who made the curse boxes for all those objects. From the land mines to Sam's little trophy, I think we'd all like a few trips back there.

Even though Yellow Eyes is gone, it seems the new bad guys are Gordon (love it when he and Dean go at it) and his psycho hunter buddy Kubrik ("Don't play with my Jesus"). And Kubrik and his buddy are now on a mission from God. I'm interested to see where this storyline goes.

Bela is...there. I don't see her or Ruby with anyone. They're just another little addition to the Supernatural universe, which is fine scattered here and there. Whether or not they'll last....I'm not so sure.

Just an observation here....anyone else think of Kripke when they saw that two pronged fork stuck in the dish-drying rack shortly before the thief fell? After watching the extras from Seasons 1 and 2 DVD's...the man likes his blood and guts. When they wrote that fork into the scene, you just know Kripke was there laughing like the creative genius maniac that he is. :)

And let's not forget...

Can we give Jared a big ovation here for playing with fire and taking a little pyro to the arm for the team? This was a heck of an ep for him. Poor guy...falling down and getting his knees scraped, losing a shoe, tripping over a lamp cord, being duct taped to a chair and pistol whipped by the new Blues Brothers of the demon hunter set PLUS getting shot. And all that time, staying adorable with the puppy dog eyes and little boy haircut.

It's good to have those wicked Winchester boys back. :)

I loved sam/jared, he was so adorable when he lost his shoe and made a puppy face to dean/jensen...lol, and when dean got in a fight and stopped just to ask what that thing is...lol. This episode rocked I couldn't stop laughing, I kept on thinking about the show WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. I hope bella doesn't hook up with one of the boys. Can't wait 'till the next episode. keep on rocking. I love u dean/jensen and sam/jared.

3RD SEASON ROCKS!!! WHEN SAM LOST HIS SHOE I COULDN'T STOP CRAKING ABOUT HIS CUTE PUPPY FACE LOL. ESPECIALLY WHEN DEAN GOT IN A FIGHT AND STOPPED TO SEE WHAT THAT THING IS.I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHATS ON NEXT LOL. I LOVE THE SHOW IT ROCK. HOPE TO BE THERE NEXT I LOVE U SAM AND DEAN!

Awesome awesome AWESOME episode. One of my favorites. Hands down the best so far of this season. And the brotherly love was back. :)

You guys are all kidding, right?
That episode was bad, really bad. Dean and Sam are still absent. The writing is about Smallville level and the lighting is all wrong.
Dean and Sam were not adorable or even close. They look bored and stupid. The two Js don't even seem to be really trying.
I can't stand how this show is dumbing down.
0 out of 100 guys. Supernatural is just a nice memory now.

I loved last night's episode. It had me laughing out loud several times. So many great lines! It's great to have these lighter-hearted episodes every few episodes to break up all the dark and foreboding story lines.

Adorable!! and soo soooo funny! loved this episode~
the best!

Great Review! This episode is the best one so far this season, I loved every second of it!!

Sam and his back luck could not have been more adorable, it was so funny! I also loved Dean's reactions to Sam's bad luck and Dean with his scratch and win cards and his batman moment.. LOL!

I also loved seeing Bobby even if it was only over the phone, loved when he called Dean an idgit LOL!

All the scenes between Sam and Dean we're so amazing! The boys are back.. I don't think Jared and Jensen's chemistry has ever been better..

I really like Bela.. I think she is a cool character and I wouldn't mind seeing her again, although I don't want her hooking up with one of the boys and she can't be on the show all the time.. but I like her way better than Ruby..

Did anyone else catch that look on Gordon's face when Kubrik said that God had led him to Sam? It screamed "Dude, you crazy!". I didnt think it was possible for the writers to make someone crazier than Gordy but they managed it.
This was a great episode. Bobby's dressing down was great. I loved the things they found in their dad's storage locker: a soccer trophy, DEans first sawed off, land mines,... All so Johnny!!
Sam's pathetic looks and Dean's brazen attitude were awesome. These boys are good at what they do!

This episode was AMAZING!! Jensen and Jared really do the comedic stuff well!! I laughed so hard through-out the episode!

-Dee

Sam/Jared was pretty freakin' adorable. He was so dejected when he lost his shoe. Sam's never been my favorite character but he was really working the prat falls and comedy stuff.

Loved Dean/Jensen's reactions to it all.

Still not liking so much time going to the guest stars but was happy to see some of that brotherly connection back. The quick walk down memory lane at the storage unit was nice. Sammy and his trophy and Dean with his sawed off shotgun. What a contrast in treasured childhood possessions, huh? lol.

Bela was pretty yawnworthy and fairly dull personality-wise. Especially compared to Sam's adorable reactions to his bad luck and Dean's charming acceptance of the good luck.

Well, last week's was better than the premiere for me, and this one was better than last week's. So they're on an upward trend so far. Let's hope it keeps up.

That's not to say that I didn't find flaws in the episode, but I was just so happy to see some SamAndDean that I let them slide.

I really loved this episode! I laughed so hard I scared my dogs! When Sam falls in the parking lot was great. And his poor puppy look when he tells Dean that he lost his shoe? Priceless! But the absolute best was Dean's "I'm Batman" and accompanying pose. Thats when I scared the dogs! And Bela? I think I like her. Time will tell.

I loved this episode, best of the season so far, hands down. All of Sam's bad luck was so cute and funny and Dean was so hot with the 'I'm Batman' stuff.

I quite like Bela and am curious to see more of her. I thought she had some good chemistry with Dean.

I loved this episode. It made me laugh and it made me all warm and tingly inside. I liked Bela a lot (except for when she shot Sam-- but doesn't that mean that it will be a VERY long time coming (if ever) that she and Dean got together? Isn't that what everybody was worrying about all summer? Setting up Sam and Dean with girls?-- anyway who couldn't love the adorkableness that is Dean? And clumsy Sam? *squee* I loved this episode.

"I am Batman!!" Totally awesome, I love this show, I can't get enough of it!!

This episode had everything I love about Supernatural: humour, action and the boys being completely lovable.
Dean was HOT, Sam was adorable and they were just lovely to watch together.

I like Bela and I think the actress was pretty decent for a show on The CW. I'm interested to see more of her.

Nice work all around.

I really enjoyed this episode. I felt more of the brotherly connection in it, that I felt was missing from the last one.

I also liked the fact, that we could finally have an episode that didn't consist of Dean looking for a hook up. I know Dean likes the ladies, and it's cute...but in moderation.

This episode had lots of great moments. To many to mention them all in fact.

Gordon, what can I say, I love to hate that character. I was glad to see him.

Bobby is awesome too, as always.

As for Bela, i'm still undecided. I didn't dislike her, and I maybe wouldn't mind the occasional episode. So far i'd only want to see this character in small doses. But i'm still in my wait-and-see mode, for the most part.

I really liked this episode. It had enough comedy and moments that made me say "Awww!" Like John keeping all those things from the boy's childhood. So sweet!

Bella... I'm not sure. Give it another episode, then I'll know.

Seriously, this episode was great. It was a great mix of fun and work. I loved having competent, smart and extremely able HunterDean back. I missed Dean in full hunter mode where he thinks on his feet and is just so great. So kudos to having DEAN back. Loved the "I'm Batman" line.

Sam's "I lost my shoe" was priceless and Jared's little lost boy look was great.

Both boys did an excellent job in this episode.

Loved Bobby and his chewing out the boys, and yet still manage to instill the affection in his "Ya idjit" phrase. LOL. Great job by Singer.

Bela? I didn't dislike her, I wasn't thrilled, and am not sure how she can fit in another 11 episodes because, really Kripke, this isn't Relic Hunter. Whatever.

All in all, it was nice to see the boys interact with each other again, something that was sorely missed in the first two episodes.

Loved seeing Gordon again and Kubrik is totally nuts.

i love all the epi!

love all lucky scenes and the unlucky sam scenes...just hilarious.

bella...too soon to tell.

3 season rocks!! »»» so far..so good!
