Top Model: Ebony Walks Out; Plus, Lots of Heather
We're still reeling in a bit of shock over the final few minutes of last night's Top Model. Yeah, Ebony was saying she wanted to go home all episode, but we didn't think she'd actually go through with it!
And Tyra was NOT PLEASED. Could you believe her reaction? First, she spun it so Ebony looked like a quitter who couldn't handle criticism (instead of a homesick girl who realized what she really wanted). Then, Tyra told Ambreal that it "was meant to be." How was it meant to be that Ebony went home voluntarily? Tyra was all set to send Ambreal packing until that happened!
To finish it all off, the editors concluded the episode with Ebony's casting video set to doomsday background music -- apparently to really put her in her place, like, "See? You DID want this at one point." Well, people are allowed to change their minds. Would Tyra and Co. have preferred it if Ebony stuck around, halfheartedly participating in a competition she didn't care about?
Besides the Ebony debacle, the episode was relatively drama-free. Tyson Beckford showed up and was incredibly hot (still! how does he do it?). The girls participated in a dullish shoot for an Africa charity -- at least the meaning behind the shoot was sincere, even if their delivery wasn't the smoothest. Heather won the ultimate challenge: doing a shoot directed by Mary J. Blige herself! Heather's kind of awesome; she got tons of airtime and delivers fun commentaries. Also, is it just us, or was she looking a little like Nelly Furtado during the Carol's Daughter shoot?
So... what'd you think? Are you on Team Ebony or Team Tyra? Did you love seeing Tyson and Mary J.? Is Heather growing on you, too? Tell us all in the comments and vote in the polls!

Sadly, I'm obsessed with this show and can muster an opinion to the Ebony/Tyra fiasco. It is not because of the intelligence that spouts from the mouths of premature beauty queens, but the high quality drama that has been running for 9 seasons straight that keeps me from making something with my post college career. Ebony leaving made my night last Wednesday. I could not stand watching her bite her lips and twirl her hair each time she met with the panel. Was she trying to be cute? She like a 20 year old toddler an idea trying to woo the judges with her "cuteness". She acted dumb, but we all know that it was a facade...and a poor one at that. If I was Tyra, I would of been pissed. She paid for her to stay at the model loft, photo shoots, and networking. That girl, plus many others on ANTM , wanted the beauty experts to solidify the belief that they have beautiful faces. This reminds me of teenage girls that habitually asked their boyfriend if they're hot. Girls, you are beautiful, but, damn, you just can't model.

Ebony is a very young woman who stood up for what she truly believed: why do people have a hard time with that? It's still "The land of the free and the home of the brave", is it not? As a young woman I changed my mind about any number of important things before I settled on my path - why shouldn't she leave before wasting MORE of everyone's time? I think she deserves much praise for realizing that it wasn't for her and leaving before someone else was cut who really wanted to be there. And for the people who say "it's Reality TV and she should have realized...": NO ONE, I repeat, NO ONE, could possibly imagine the stresses and strains of being under a microscope and living in a fishbowl 24/7 until they've tried it themselves. I say until you've "been there, done that", you have no right to critisize what was a very brave action. From now on I'm referring to our lovely Queen as Tyra the Tyrant.

I have mixed emotions about the whole issue. I am happy that ebony decided that she was going to be honest about wanting to go home but i don't understand all of her reasons.
1. It is a known fact that a part of being on a reality show means a certain amount of restriction. You are placed in a house with limited contact with the outside world so that a situation can be created where some level of conflict has to exist in the house among the girls, so that people will watch the show. So everybody knows that missing your family is a part of it when they sign up. We've seen girls who have left husbands and children behind because they wanted this bad enough to make sacrifices for it.
2. Criticism- If you don't want to be criticised, don't try out for the show. If you already have it down you would not need ANTM. You'd be able to walk into to any modelling agency and become the next Tyra Banks in an instant. In the real world Ebony, People WILL ALWAYS CRTIICISE. And i never heard the judges say you are not beautiful. They were asking you to smile. Newsflash... MODELS MUST SMILE!!! Peolpe have to like you so you can get hired in the industry... That's not rocket science.
3. I agree that on some level Ebony left really because she couldn't take criticism, but here is my question for the judges. In every season we've seen girls being sent home because they didn't seem to want it enough as far as the judges are concerned. Although to us the viewers they wanted to be there. For the first time a girl says she wants to go home because she realises that ANTM wasn't for her and she is called a quitter. Is it that on this show the only people who can determine if a girl wants to be there are the judges? The judges are really inconsistent in what they look for and expect... It sometimes make the show appear to be a hoax. But at the end of the day it's entertaining to watch.

i respect ebony for what she did. She easily could've stuck around and wasted not only the panel's time but Jay's as well and stopped Ambreal from getting another try(she obviously really wants it)
.I'm glad that she was honest about how she felt and congrats to Heather on winning the challenge, she's really beginning to open up.

team tyra.
she said it was meant to be not because of what was going to happen, but because of what DID happen.
ebony was great and all, but she decided that it wasn't what she wanted and that's what the competition is about. Amberal deserved it more and i think Ebony knew it.
it was her choice.
but tyra had the right to be pissed.

First, you don't know what you want until you tried it. How many times does the average student change their major?
Second, this young girl had the guts to stand up to a totalitarian woman who was cattier than a 7th grader about it. That takes amazing strength. She's a strong girl and will do well in life.
We all walk this life figuring out who we are. She found out on tv that modeling isn't for her. My family took me down when I left computer science for piloting and that was hard. God forbid the whole US gets to judge me.
Go girl! Stay strong and keep thinking for yourself!

Tyra needs to know the difference between a quitter, and someone who does not care about " ANTM " anymore. Besides the winners never go anywhere , the only time their Cover Girl commercial is shown is during ANTM.

ebony NEVER looked like she wanted to be there - she took a spot that another girl who really wants to model could have had
Heather is looking and acting more and more outgoing - maybe it's just the editing?

I don't understand why Ebony, who is a nice looking person, failed to realize from the get-go that it would take more than looks to accomplish becoming America's Next Top Model. The need to seriously decide if you can stick it out comes at the beginning before the public sees what is aired. Quitting in the middle caused a waste of time. I feel sorry for the girl who did not get selected when Ebony did. Some opportunities just don't come knocking everyday. And here's something else I thought about, what would make a girl, who is in a competition to becoming America's Next Top Model, not want to open her mouth and give a beautiful smile is she really felt that she had what it takes.
