Supernatural: Bad Blood -- and Lots of It!
Supernatural brought its A-game this episode, and we’re still reeling. Gore! Brotherly bonding! Betrayal! More gore! Sam asking Dean to act like his brother again! Dean teaching Sam to fix the Metallicar! Gordon going from psycho-crazed Hunter to psycho-crazed vamp! And did we mention the gore? Wheeeeee!
There was so much to love about the episode that we hardly know where to start. Look, let’s get the potentially unpopular opinion out of way right now: We loved Bela this episode. No, we don’t endorse her selling out the boys to Gordon, but it was so perfectly in keeping with her character to do so. And then, the look on her face when Dean told her that if they lived through this, he was going to hunt her down and kill her? Wow. She knew he was serious, and it scared the crap out of her. As well it should!
Now on to stuff we can all agree on: Any episode that includes Gordon is bound to be over-the-top awesome. Gordon kicked serious ass this episode – he’s completely obsessed, and completely undeterred by rationality or morality or any other ality you can think of! Gordon, you’re almost (almost) as big a bad-ass as the Winchesters themselves. If only you weren’t crazy – and, in the end, evil.
And then, when Dixon the loneliest vampire decided to turn Gordon rather than kill him? Oh, the pain! It almost hurt to watch Gordon becoming the monster he hated most – but at the same time, we were thrilled because it meant he was gong to become even more of a bad-ass killing machine! Gordon the Hunter is scary. Gordon with vampire strength and skills? Downright terrifying.
Oh, the scene where Gordon lured the boys into the warehouse, separated the boys and hunted a terrified Sam had us cowering and cheering simultaneously. Could you believe he turned that poor girl to use her as a weapon? Oof. But oh, the absolute worst was Sam fighting back – and defeating him – with the razor wire. Sam beheaded vampire Gordon with razor wire! Holy crap! That was incredibly intense and squirmy – we were on the edge of our collective seat. We almost can’t believe they got away with putting that on TV!
But even the gory bits couldn’t eclipse the real heart of the episode – the relationship between the boys. We would have cheered when Sam finally broke through to Dean – if we weren’t wibbling shamelessly. “I wish you would drop the show and be my brother again. Because… just ‘cause.” Oh, Sam! And then, when Dean started teaching Sam how to fix the Metallicar? Oh, our hearts! It was a beautiful, touching moment – made all the more poignant because this was where Dean finally admitted that yes, he was going to die, and yes, he was scared. These boys are killing us!
What did you think? Are you rhapsodizing over this episode, or do you think we’re off-base? Did Bela work for you this time? Will you miss Gordon, even though he was completely psychotic? Did you have to hide your eyes during the episode? Vote in our polls, and tell all in the comments!

I am so glad that the show added Bela and Ruby, they seem to be antagonist and it is working. I love Bela more than I like ruby, mosty because I can see how her character compliments Dean's character. She is just the kind of person that can be a constant throne in his side and you can still see why he wants her around. She also gives his character someone who he can constantly be at odds with. I love him saying to that he was going to kill her, and her reaction to that comment. This episode was great, while I liked Gordon's story line I was so ready for him to die. I also like that there is this hanging question about Sam and how much of Sam has changed since he died. This episode did excellent in showng how Sam has become more like Dean in the since that he is willing to do what is necessary without questioning how right it is. This is not exactly a good thing because the soft side of Sam keeps Dean in check, the lines between the two of them are beginning to blur which is great to see.

"Yea sure I don't like the idea that she betrayed the boys but come on, it made the show a bit more interesting didn't it? "
During BDABR - Yes.
But...
Not when the characterizations of Sam and especially Dean are badly written just to include Bela. Gordon was even badly written. After Bela gave Gordon the location of the Winchesters, he would have shot her just to get his satchel back. Gordon is a hunter who has no qualms about killing a human.
Sera Gamble has been one of my favorite SPN writers. The only scenes in Fresh Blood that were poorly written were Bela's. This isn't Sera's fault. It can't be easy to insert a character that doesn't belong on an extended basis. Excuses are being created to randomly force this character into episodes which is negatively affecting the creativity in the scripts.

I loved this episode, it was the best one of the season so far in my opinion. It felt like the brothers were finally *back*, being together and kicking ass and trying to deal with the bad things that come their way without going in circles around each other. And the gore was fun, I admit. But the best was the banter and the real talk they finally had instead of another fight. Jensen and Jared were incredible in those scenes. And the ending was brilliant.
I have to be honest and say I am happy and relieved that the Gordon storyline is over and that it went down like this. It had closure and went full-cycle. It was frankly getting predictable by this point, so it's nice that it got wrapped up (with twists, which was great) and the boys can move on.
On the Bela issue, I thought she was a completely unnecessary addition, irrelevant to the plot. Gordon was a hunter that tracked vampires- I think he could track Sam and Dean without randomly threatening a thief that suddenly everyone seems to know about *shrugs* I just didn't buy it. That phone call where Dean just told her where they were, like it wasn't odd to trust her wasn't rational. I think Dean's a very smart character and every time Bela 'plays him' he just comes off as dumb. Which distracts me from the episode, 'cause I just don't see Dean falling for it.
But critics aside, it was an awesome episode and I hope they continue down this road.

I just loved the show. I happen to think Bela added a little spice to every thing. Yea sure I don't like the idea that she betrayed the boys but come on, it made the show a bit more interesting didn't it? Her character is dark and mysterious and she adds a bit more to supernatural. Our boys are doing a great job. I enjoyed the brotherly love between them. Keep it up!! Madly inlove with the Winchesters!!!

Loved this episode! I'll miss Gordon so much. I hated Bela here, though, she's just so useless.

After the awful clunker that came before this was a return to fine form.
From brothers being brothers again to Gordon`s story coming full circle when he turned into the thing he hated most - it was great.
Only annoyance was Bela`s presence and the absolute idiocy that had Dean give her their location. Yeah sure, like after everything she did he wouldn`t hang up on her with a "never call again, bitch."
Why are the heroes of the show not allowed to treat her according to her despicable actions? Why does she get a cutesy carte blanche for everything?

Except for the unnecessary presence of Bela (who seemed to have been shoe-horned into the storyline simply because they are contractually obligated to include her) this was a great episode and a real return to form after last week's lack-lustre effort. I loved the levels of emotion shared between Sam and Dean as they continue to confront Dean's sacrifice, and the tragedy that was the ultimate fate of Gordon was so well done I actually felt sorry guy who had been trying to kill Sam across three seasons. I truly hope there will be more episodes of this caliber after the hiatus and that I don't have to write off the third season of this wonderful show as an anomaly to be merely tolerated.

I love this episode a huge lots in Fresh Blood. It had a lot of blood and gore in this episode like none stop with heads being rip off blood everywhere heads chop off and killings and Gordon truning into a vampire and going insane was very brutal and I love every min of it. Sera Gamble freakin rocks 600% awsome because she said their isn't enough gore and goreines in the supernatural line in the supernatural season 1 guild book and also in the guild book their's the line twice said Dean is a playboy and I love both lines freakin rules. And I can't wait tell the Supernatural christmas one it's going to kick@ss agian with lots of blood, gore. I'm a 600% horror movie freak I love alot of diffrent horror movies like all The Omens,The Amityville horrors,Friday the 13s, The texas chainsaw massaures and the Saws, etc and horror shows like Buffy T.V.S, Angel,Supernatural,Ghost whisperer, etc I love the extreme blood, gore and dead things. I love all the episodes from 1-5 rocks. Supernatural freakin rules my t.v.. Jensen and Jared are very extreme, telent, and wounderful actors they rock, kick$ss,good sense of humor, funny, hot, sexy.etc and deserves playing this rolls in the best show forever. The writing is good the scriptes are good the plots, acting, stroies, visual effects, sets the car the diffrent weapons that dean & sam use, books that bring Supernatural too life. And I can't for get the Master of this best entertianing show Eric Kripke his brian is scary visions. Keep up the good work and the scarys and blood, gore.

Before I talk about the episode I just would like to ask the Fans to try and be nice to each other. These comments should be about the show and not getting stabs in to one another.
Anyways, I thought Fresh Blood was a very good though gory episode. The boys were in their best brotherly form and I personally like Bela. Gordon was on spot with his portrayal of the doomed vamp hunter turned vamp, wow, that had to hurt. I cannot wait for the Christmas episode in December :)

Well i just have to say it was another great episode...this had everything in it comedy drama, and scary parts...this episode proves that this tv show is beyond brillant the creative ideas and amazing acting....yah I'd say this show deservs to stay on the air for a long long time.

this episode was near perfect... i didn't like bela that much. something about her and the way she talks with that british accent of hers makes her a little.... eh... just... UG idk.. i don't like her vibe. and why DID she have dean on speed dial? i loved that gordon finally is gone. but sam was just a little.. off... but in a good way! i really loved that whole "not quite 100% sam" deal. it's buggin me to death but it's awesome! that whole brotherly chat was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. that was amazing acting for the boys. sam was right. dean needed to cut the crap. and the metallicar!!!!!!!! awwwww... i wanted to cry but it was just so true, i couldn't.
AMAZING

In with the good air...out with the bad! ;D (breathing!!)
Sorry, jas, I know you're more pro-John than anti-John. But I've been reading a whole lot of John hate recently and it is starting to more than bug me. I guess you took the brunt of that.

ontheotherhand: don't blow one little comment out of proportion. You can stop flipping out. Breathe.
My comment was in reference to Scorpio's comment that Dean teaching Sam was more fatherly than brotherly. It wasn't even about John, it was about why Dean treats Sam as a son at times and how he came to be something more than a big brother to Sam.
Otherly fatherly comments Dean said in Season 1:
a) Dean's first line of the series: "easy tiger".
b) Two season 1 episodes Dean says of Sam: "That's my boy". (Scarecrow and Provenance)
The question is
what happened during Dean & Sam's upbringing for Dean to occasionally treat Sam as a son?
Answer is pieced together through:
a) "Pilot": Sam said to Dean about John being missing: "he's always missing"
b) "something wicked" flashbacks: John left the boys for a few days to hunt. Dean (age 10 or 11) was taking care of, feeding & watching over Sam. That was a big (normal) part of Sam and Dean's life.
c) "Dead Man's Blood": John admitted to Sam that he "stopped being a father" and became a "drill seargent".
This explains Dean's occassional fatherly demeanor.
BTW: I happen to adore John. I by no means said he was a bad father. Under the circumstances, John did the best he could. We all have been over this. Especially with Sarah ;-)

It's odd that no one has mentioned the chilling revelation Gordon made to his friend (the priest?):
SPOILER AHEAD....that Sam is the Antichrist. That throws a whole new slant on this thing.

This episode was awesome! The boys are back!!!
The episode had a bit of everything.
Gordon was excellent and I'll really miss not having the possibility of him coming after the boys. But then it opens up the way for new baddies.
That scene where Sam and Dean have their heart to heart bonding. Wow! "...because I know you...been trying to be like my big brother since I was 4 years old..." And Dean's look acknowledging Sam and his feelings. That was the best part for me. And to just round it off so nicely that scene at the end where Dean decides to teach Sam how to take care of his baby. Just double wow! Two thumbs up for this episode.

Jared Padalecki deserves and Emmy nomination for that scene with Jensen in the motel room.
He was utterly perfect. He even wibbled his little lip.
Couldn't have played it better.
These two actors are so very very talented and Kripke must thank the gods every day for hiring this pair and the chemistry they have.
Wonderful episode, everyone was on form, it had angst, action, gore and a little humor, just what it took to be one of the best episodes of SPN.

The fans of this show are pathological when it comes to young females or possible love interests. It's very disturbing and it's starting to put me off the show altogether.

Everything about this episode rocked - the brothers, their hunt, Gordon and yes even Bela
I love the slow build-up to this confrontation between the brothers, and it's something that feels like it was long overdue. I love that Sam laid everything bare for Dean, and Dean finally saw what this was doing to Sam, instead of pretending he has nothing to lose.
And Gordon. Gordon rocks. He always has.
Sam though, the one who wanted to kill the vampire without a second thought, and decapitated Gordon? This is the Sam they've been hinting at for so long, someone ruthless, filled with gray instead of a clear sense of good and evil. Both brothers learned that there those supernatural creatures that are like that, Sam is now living that life, and it's about time! I can't wait to see Dean's reaction to all when he finds out the secrets Sam has been keeping from him.

Okay, let's get the nitpicks out of the way first:
Firstly, why in the world would Dean just tell Bela where he is...was he not suspicious at all!?!!! Really, is Dean's IQ going to drop every time Bela is around. It would have made much more sense, IMO for Bela to have tracked Sam and Dean using one of her occult objects or to have just given Gordon Dean's number so he could track him herself.
Secondly, I wish they would have just left the whole Bela and Dean at "I'm going to kill you." instead of leaving the door open for her to be redeemed. *sigh* - Maybe this strike will actually be a good thing.
Alright, now that that's out of the way, I have to say this was an AWESOME episode. You know, besides her take on female characters, I find that Gamble actually is a pretty good writer and I do like how she portrays Dean most of the time.
Firstly, Sam and Dean, oh boy did these two make me cry! That scene where Sam is begging Dean to be his big brother again...*sniffles* I don't think I'm going to be able to watch that scene without tearing up no matter how many times I watch this episode. And that last scene where Dean was teaching Sam how to fix the Impala was so cute and touching - heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. And was that rock music at the end...*SQUEE* I hope to hear more soon! Kudos to J2 for once again making my heart both smile and break for Sam and Dean. Individually Sam and Dean were awesome...I especially loved that first scene where Dean cuts himself and the proceeds to inject Lucy with dead man's blood. And Mercedes McNab was great, even for just that short while.
Okay, on to Gordon - first I must say that I'm going to miss this guy. He was a great adversary and really brought a lot to the table...I was actually hoping that he'd survive and the maybe end up teaming up with Kate from S1 and them trying to hunt Sam down together. Still that was awesome, fight between him and Sam and that was a great send off for him.
So, lets see, shadows are back, the music is back - all in all a great episode!
Overall I'd rate this an 8.5 out of 10!

Take Bela out of this episode and it would've been darn on perfect. The continued shoe-horning of her character into the plots gets on my last nerve (and as we're all entitled to our opinions, even if not every one agrees, we by no means have to "lay off" of her or Ruby either one - cause I want both gone and I intend to be as vocal about it as their fans who trumpet them).
Anyway. Forgetting her (as I always try to, as it makes me happier) I'm almost sad to see Gordon go. I wouldn't want him around all the time, but once or twice a season he was a fun bad guy.
And the boys. Sam and Dean rocked the world in this one. THIS is the episode that brought the brotherly moments I've been waiting (and missing terribly) all season for. Thank you, Supernatural! Sam finally getting through Dean's defenses was heartbreaking. The scene at the end where Dean shows his little brother the ropes broke what was left of my heart after Sam's initial teary pleading.
Wow boys. Just wow. More of the brotherly, together moments, please.

I love my show and all is rright with the world again. Thank-you at last an real episode of Supernatural. Jared and Jensen brought their A-game and I loved every minute (except for the gratuitous Bela stuuff. Like Dean would give her his phone number! Whatever!)
Sterling was amzing and a fitting antagonist for the boys and Dean and Sam's brotherliness broke my heart over and over.
More of this wonderful show please.
Also could the CW please PROMOTE it?

ACK!!!! You KNOW I have to say something about this! John wasn't around much, and when he was, he was more of a drill seargent than a father. It was up to Dean to care for and raise Sam.
Holy SMOKE.
Ah, John.... even well over a year after your death, you're still around and raisin' a rukus. What a guy.
Two episodes this year, including Fresh Blood have dealt with fathers and their reaction to the deaths of their children.
In Bedtime Stories we see the result when a father has been too trusting of 'normal' and refuses to believe the evidence of his own senses. He sees the 'ghost' of his child, does NOT believe, and people die.
After the night Mary was gutted and burned to death with John as the only witness, John had the same choice. To believe what he saw and accept that the supernatural exists, or not to accept the evidence of his senses, to put his head in the sand and accept that this was a normal house fire. Because John DOES believe, people, including his children, live.
In 'Fresh Blood' another father deals with the loss of a child, but in a totally different way. This time a father loses a child and reacts by lashing out, taking revenge upon innocents. Becomes, we might even posit, 'borderline psycho', and again people die.
John could have gone that same route after Mary's death. Could have lashed out against people. Become an alcoholic. Could have taken a rifle up a clock tower and started shooting. He could have dumped Dean and Sam with some agency or with Jim, been shut of the care that a 6 month old baby needs, that a 4 year old CAN. NOT. Give. (Unless we accept that at 4 years old Dean went out and got a job to put food on the table and pay the rent and light bill AND had the time and energy to feed, change and bathe an infant.) He could have turned his children into killers, as Dixon did,(as Gordon did) when he 'sired' innocent girls and made of them monsters.
John does none of those things. If we look at the evidence of what John DID do, we find instead, a man who saw, and believed, and became neither an ineffectual bystander nor an active participant in the deaths of innocent people. A man who raised 2 small children alone after he was stripped of home, wife, his belief in a fair and just God and the way the whole world works. What kind of a job did John do? Look at Dean and Sam THAT'S the kind of job John did.
And who taught Dean how to take care of the Impala? Who spent HOURS with his kid teaching him which parts were what and what tools he needed, and how to take care of the knocks and pings that any car, but especially a 40 year old one that gets used hard, needs? That would be John. The one who was such a negative influence in the boys lives.
John is a huge presence in that scene with Dean Sam and the Imala, precisely because of what it says about the relationships in this family of three (I keep wanting to make comment's about the significance of that particular number...John, Dean Sam- Father, Son and Holy Spirit- Joseph, Mary and Jesus- Faith, Hope and Charity- Heaven, Earth and Hell etc.)
I think John could have been a much bigger jerk than he became on the show. Obviously EK thinks he's a jerk... a 'borderline psychotic' in fact. That we John girls have come to love this character is mostly because of the way John was presented through the actor and sympathetic directing.
That scene of Dean and Sam with the Impala, John's gift to Dean, says so much to me about that familial relationship. About the hours John and Dean spent happily ensconced under the hood, up to their elbows in grease. Up to their elbows in memory (a ceremony of 'communion' almost). It had nothing to with revenge, or hunting. It was a father and son bonding over something they both knew and loved, a last reminder of what they both had known and loved and lost. A tie to Mary and Home, kept shining and immaculate through their love and caring. No wonder Dean hyperventilated when Bela had it towed.
Sam never knew his mother, never shared in those memories of her that John and Dean did and so was never quite sure about WHY John and Dean loved the Impala so. Never gets why Dean 'hardly ever let me drive that thing'.
Lest anyone be tempted to say..."Sam was left out of the father son equation"... because he didn't understand it's significance, Sam didn't WANT to be part of that particular expression of father son love.
Shadows is, for me at least, the best evidence of John as a father involved in a loving way with BOTH his children. How many fathers, even without John's military background and family history, can't give their grown sons a hug like that? If John was abusive, physically or emotionally, or absent most the time, there's no way that Dean and especially Sam would have had that depth of emotion in their eyes and their body language. There's no way that Sam would have been THAT reluctant for John to leave again.
Jeff is currently doing Watchmen, and there's a bit in it that applies to John, as much as it applies to the Comedian, which is Jeff's role. "Of all of us he understood the most. About people {demons}. About society and what's happening to it. Things everybody knows in their gut. Everyone too scared to face, too polite to talk about. He understood. Understood man's {demons} capacity for horror and never quit. Saw the world's black underbelly and never surrendered. Once a man has seen, he can never turn his back on it. Never pretend it doesn't exist. No matter who orders him to look the other way. We do not do this thing because it is permitted. We do it because we have to. We do it because we are compelled." And that's John.

I am sooo glad that Sam finaly called Dean out on his tough guy act. It was really starting to get on my nerves when he wouldn't admit it and get on with the time he has to live. I really did love Sam in this one. Saying how he has always looked up to Dean and acting as if he had just won the biggest prize when he got to fix the Metallicar: perfection.
I was a bit irked with the lack of Sam whumpage though. I was expecting him to get thrown into a bit more walls or something, but the beheading made up for some of that. That was so hardcore. I agree that its amazing the network let the show put that on.
So now Sam's officially killed, what, 3 people/things with little to no regret? Hmmm...could be leading to something. I can't wait for next week!
Oh and I liked the minimum of Bella in this ep. She was needed to trace down the boys but I can still live without her and the other girl. I'm just happy my boys are working together again; my world is complete.

OMG i'm so excited by every episode but sad it's coming closer to Dean's judgment day *tear*:'( Sam's and Dean's brother moment very touching *another tear* :(
People are you serious, u hate Bella???? i think Bella is great; she's can be a be-och but that what makes her great. Bella is awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely the best episode so far this season. What an ep to end us on before our anxiously awaited christmas ep! I'm not going to batter Bela but she just doesnt work for me at all. Though I loved her reaction to Deans threat. Bring on more Ruby though and I'll be happy. Sorry to see Gordon go but I knew it was the end for him the moment he sunk his fangs into Dean. He's always been a worthy adversary and will be missed around every dark corner. The brotherly moments were beautiful and heartfelt and very teary for us all. Poor broken Dean and Sam getting more and more broken by the day. Kudoes to Mercedes Mcnab for such a great performance right at the start of a fantastic ep. Never felt more sorry for her. This episode proves beyond a shadow of a doubt just how much our dear, talented writers are worth. Heres hoping we all get an early christmas present and see the writers get what they richly deserve and we in turn get the pleasure of seeing many more poignant an intelligent episodes for ages to come.

Best episode of the season without a doubt. I'd give it a 10 out of 10 apart from the fact Bela was in it and the boys still being in contact with her after what she did to Sam doesn't make a jot of sense to me. (And the smell of a redemption arc for her with the hints in Ep.6 of a sob story back story is making me nauseous.) I love Ruby but Bela sucks. There is a point to Ruby being in the show, Ruby intrigues me. Bela bores me rigid.
I adored above all the brotherly scenes. Sam telling Dean that he always tries to be like his big brother, that he knows Dean is terrified and that he wants Dean to be his brother again was such a beautifully written and acted scene. Jared Padalecki was just incredible - as he has been all season. And the last scene of Dean teaching Sam how to fix the car had me in tears yet again. The boys' quiet acceptance that it seems very likely that Dean is going to die was as heartbreaking as the fact that Dean had listened to Sam and was being what Sam needed was heartwarming.
And Gordon/SKB was just fantastic! Why oh why did he have to die so soon? Now, he was a class antagonist.
But the way he died!! Oh Sam!! The look on his face after he killed Gordon. My poor, poor boy.

Oustanding episode. If it weren't for Bela's presence, I'd give it an A plus. The emotional payoff of the brother reconnecting (I told you so, oh impatient fans) was well worth the price of admission, and who couldn't love the gooooore? :D
I've got to give it up for Sterling K. Brown. He gave Gordon the psycho an uncommon dignity to the end. I didn't hate Gordon in spite of everything he'd done. I felt sorry for him even though he tried to hurt Sam. He honetly believed Sam's dangerous, and Mr. Brown is so skilled that he conveyed that in his peformance.
I wish I could be as complimentary of Ms. Cohan. I'm sure she tries her best, but she's handicapped by the truly awful perameters of her characters. Bela is plain nonsense. Why did you kill off Nicki Aycox, Supernatural? Why? Why must the men look stupid to make Bela look good? Shake her hand, thank her for trying, and send Ms. Cohan on her way.
Posted by: Galveston | November 16, 2007 2:39 PM
My concern...why the hell would Dean have Bella's phone number in his - like on speed dial??? That is preposterous. SHE SHOT SAM!!! and before that she was willing to let him die by stealing the rabbit foot!!
(Did I miss something but I did not see Mercedes McNab's name in the credit and it should of been there?!)
But otherwise the episode kicked ass! Those two Jared/Sam and Jensen/Dean are two of the best on tv!

"Sam beheaded vampire Gordon with razor wire! We almost can’t believe they got away with putting that on TV!"
Anyone think it's possible that Kripke made a compromise with the CW? The CW gets the second chick and Kripke gets more gore this season.
Now that I got that question out of my head: Loved this ep! Lots of action! Lots of Gore! Lighting was darker! Sera wrote and Kim directed! Best ep of the season!
Sera Gamble knows how to make a character suffer. Turning Gordon into the thing he hated most...then having Sam behead him...awesome way to take out this character.
Also, I loved how the score and effects brought out the transition Gordon was undergoing.
Finally, Sam finds a way to get through to Dean. Watching Dean turn the Impala duties over to Sam...ok I'm a sap...I was thinking about the impala's sentimental value. It was Johns car, the boys grew up on the road in it, then John handed it down to Dean. So many memories surround the vehicle and Dean knows the impala will mean as much to Sam as it does to him when he's gone.
Scorpio - you're correct Dean does treat Sam like a son at times. You haven't seen S1 eps if I recall correctly. So, to shed some light: John wasn't around much, and when he was, he was more of a drill seargent than a father. It was up to Dean to care for and raise Sam.
As for Bela: I'll be honest Bela did and didn't work for me in this episode.
What worked: she sold out Dean and Sam, that's who she is - selfish & greedy & compassionless. (Although, I must have missed when, where, & why dean gave her his cell number.)
What doesn't work: Bela telling dean she used a spirit board (again) to find Gordon's exact location. Really? The spirit board made sense in IMTOD, Sam knew Dean's spirit was near. Last night however, it just so happens that the spirit who talked to bela through the board knew who and where gordon was? Not to mention the spirted stressed to stay away from him. (previously in BDABR, the spirit she contacted knew where the rabbits foot was and the storage unit was boobytrapped (hence her need for the 2 thugs) - ok..?...?)
Anyone else not find the spirit board as a feasible research tool? If they're that accurate, why are all hunters using them?
The writers are trying hard to find a place for bela in the scripts and it's showing on screen.
On a different note: I loved the line "He was old, like 30". Sera Gamble's way of taking a cheap shot at the CW, perhaps?
Lastly:
RIP Gordon and Kubrik

IMO, last night was by far the strongest episode of the season so far. When Sera told us things were getting gorier, she meant it. This became a "must rewatch" episode for me before the first half was over.
Two things on request for theCW:
1) Bring back the person who created the Johnny Cash promo last year. We need more promos!
2) Don't bring back the person writing the official episode descriptions on your web site because THEY GIVE AWAY HUGE PLOT POINTS and spoil anyone who reads the description!
(Holy cow, telling people Gordon gets turned by the vampire? When did that ever make sense?)

I really liked tonight's episode. Loved the return of Gordon, as always. I felt the way he went out was certainly fitting.
The end scene with the boys and the impala, tops my favorite scene list so far this year. And some classic rock finally. I was starting to go into withdrawls.
I'm sorry to say Bela is still not working for me. I do like the actress, so that's not the problem.
I hated Dean giving her their location at the beginning. She says..oh hey, so where are you, like what, they're buddies? And she still feels unnecessary everytime i've seen her. It doesn't seem to flow naturally. It's like the writer's are bending over backwards to try and fit her in, and to me it shows.
This isn't Bela hate, I just don't like what they've done with the character. I'd rather see her as a full on villian, and have the boys treat her as such. But i'm getting the vibe they're trying to leave things open, for her to be redeemed later, which honestly I wouldn't buy anyway.
When Dean said he was going to kill her, the look on her face was priceless....and I thought good, well that's that. We'll start to see something different here.
Then she calls up with info from her talking board, to try and smooth things over.
We'll see where they go with things I guess.

I’m really, really glad the boys are back being brothers again (we won’t have to suffer through the tension any longer) Jared did a very good job in that scene, very poignant and Jensen was excellent, as always! For me, at least, the final scene felt more like a ‘father teaching a son’ rather than ‘big brother to little brother’ - the car will be Sam’s inheritance from Dean and Dean was the one who raised Sammy when they were kids, as John was away so much (and yes I know Dean got the car from John :0)
Shame that Gordon is now gone - S.K.B’s acting was always a pleasure to watch.
No surprise this is was a great ep., with Sera writing and Kim directing, and the infrared effect of seeing Sam through the vision of Vampire Gordon was quite inspired - well done!
Can’t wait for the Christmas episode on December 13th.
Ciao, A.

The episode rocked and rocked.
The writing and acting were tremendous and Sam and Dean are BACK as brothers at last.
I don't like Bela and why was she even in this episode? That girl's acting was by far the worst and the character sucks.
Apart from that this episode had everything I love about my show, brothers, poignancy and shock, blood, gallows humor and more of the BROTHERS.
I love Jensen and Jared so hard.
Rock on SPN.
