Crowned: Let the Pageant Begin!

Laura and Patty

Last night's premiere of Crowned was even better than we could have imagined! For those of you who missed it, here is a little recap:

*Eleven mother/daughter teams rode up to the mansion in a bus and once inside tried to size up the competition.

*Their accomodations are palatial... except for the bunk beds. Tiaras adorn the wall, pink is the color of choice, and there's a large dessert spread on the dining room table filled with pastries.

*There are a few teams who have pageant experience, but most haven't competed in anything like this before.

*Team underdog (aka "The Tomboy Queens") seemed very nervous and headed straight for the food while other teams seem to head straight for the champagne. They aren't as polished as the other teams, but they seem sweet enough to make it for at least a few rounds with the judges.

*Team eater and meater (aka "The Redheaded Boobjobs" *cough* "Bombshells") started annoying everyone else from the get-go with 7am high-pitched musical theater singing. Drama, drama, drama. Ginger kids are trouble.

*As expected, team sugar, (aka "Dream Gals"), Hollis and Gina are our favorites and are sweet as pie. Their name was one of the only ones that didn't make us cringe.

*Team fart, (aka "Silent But Deadly") proves that no matter how smart you are, you need to also be hip to popular names for expelling gas so as to not make a fool of yourself.

*Team rebel girl, (aka "Hot and Not") is our pick for the team who has the most to learn from this experience. The daughter, Christan, and her mom, Ada, are in the midst of rebuilding their relationship as they go through the beauty pageant.

*Team tears, (aka "The Daredevil Divas") has a pretty good chance of making it to the end. The daughter has body issues and the family as a whole has gone through very tough times. There's no doubt they can use the money, but we're not sure they can go all the way.

*Team blonde stereotype, (aka "The Blonde Bombshells) made us feel better about being brunettes. While the daughter is, um, smart (?) her accent made us believe otherwise.

*Team organ transplant, (aka "The Diamond Dolls), also have a humbling story to share and past pageant experience. We're not sure that their personalities will get them through to the end though.

*Team Flava of Diane Keaton (aka "Skin Deep") totally shocked us with their choice of outfits. Their casting tape showed a lot of skin, but their first impression with the judges was the most conservative outfit choice of them all.

From the previews for next week it looks as though they may stir up some trouble (and we can't wait!).

*Team intimidation, (aka "Sassy Sisters") might be incredibly good-looking, and daughter Nicole may have won the crown as Miss Delaware on her first try, but their confidence seems to rub others the wrong way.

*Team snoozer, (aka "Reigning A's") proved that beauty and brains do not always simultaneously live together in harmony. Their introductory speech to the judges made us want a good five minutes of our lives back. The judges seemed to agree as they were the first team to be de-sashed.

Buh Bye

Next week looks like it's going to be a doozy. Cliques are formed, alliances are made, tension is raised and fights will start to separate the congenial from the malicious.

What did you think of the show? Do you have any early predictions?
