Reaper: Meet Beelzebabe
Yeah, we admit it, we loved Cady from the minute we saw her -- and not just because Sock calls her "Beelzebabe." (Hee!) She' funny, she cute, she's quirky -- she has a personality. Alas, the writers never quite bothered to give Andi, Sam's theoretical true love, one of those. That's a problem.
In fact, we were so in love with Cady that we didn't really care about the A plot -- you know, the one that involved escaped souls. She brings out the best in Sam -- he's actually happy! -- and the funny in Sock and Ben -- check out them slow-dancing together next to the couple so they could keep and eye on her. Plus, how can you not love a girl who brings her recently deceased goldfish to a bar in a tiny little red-lined coffin? Hee!
Cady's involvement also bring out the best -- or worst -- in the Devil. He doesn't seem to want Sam dating Cady, but we can't tell whether that's because she is his daughter, or she isn't. But how funny was his prank call to Sam, imitating Cady's voice? "Admit it. I totally hosed you!"
The soul-catching stuff was fun, but it's all becoming somewhat standard: Guys discover stuff about soul, guys try to figure out vessel, guys face peril, guys eventually prevail. The souls this week were bank robbers who killed each other over the score. They can go through walls and such, but they can't take their accessories with them. The guys use that to trick the nastier of the two to drop the vessel -- a metal Zippo-style lighter -- so they can use it on him.
However, we do have to admit we were impressed by how the nasty soul used his power as a weapon -- he grabbed Ben (poor Ben, always getting grabbed), dragged him halfway through a wall, then threatened to let him go -- effectively cutting him in half. Yuck.
