The CW Source: Comics News: Winchesters In, Chloe Sullivan Out

A couple of comics-related stories hit our desks over the last few days, and we couldn't resist sharing.

First up, those Winchester boys from Supernatural are getting another shot at comics greatness. TVGuide reports the new series, "Rising Son," will be a "dysfunctional-family story," according to writer Peter Johnson, who's also a coexecutive producer on the TV show. "We're really going to explore the differences between Sam and Dean in this one. Dean is becoming aware of what his dad's up to and we'll see him training and hunting a little bit, while John will start to key in on something different about Sam."

There's a third Supernatural comics series in the works, and the first one -- "Supernatural Origins" -- will be published as a trade paperback in April. Nice!

It's not all good news in Comicsland, however. Remember how we told you that Smallville's Chloe Sullivan would be showing up in the Superman comic? Not anymore. Earth's Mightiest reports that plans to add Chloe to the comic-book mix have been scrapped.

"Chloe is an exciting character on the television show, and we had hoped to work her into DC continuity, but unfortunately, the stars did not align properly, and even though we had announced it, she will not be appearing in any of the issues of Superman or Action Comics," DC Comics's VP Dan DiDio said.

What happened? No one knows, although the speculation ranges from the thought that comics Chloe would be too different from TV Chloe, to mutterings that series creators Al Gough and Miles Millar quashed the idea.
