Gossip Girl: A Thin Line Between Popularity and Exile

What an episode! Gossip Girl continued to shock us last night when Blair and Chuck's secret came out and Blair lost her seat as the queen of Constance Billard. At the end, we really thought Blair was going to get on that plane to France. Thankfully, Serena talked some sense into her friend and convinced B not to run away from her problems. Serena is such a good friend -- sometimes better than Blair deserves.
And B has problems galore. She's been exiled from the popular crew, Nate can't stand the sight of her, and even Chuck rejected her in one of the coldest TV putdowns we've seen (more on that in a minute). We can see why she'd want to run away. But she's staying to fight it out with Serena, giving us a great lead-in to the next new episode.
We loved how this episode mirrored the pilot. Blair and Serena have traded places -- now it's B's turn to see what life is like on the outside after sleeping with the wrong person. Interesting how it's only the girls who get shamed on this show after sex...
We're still reeling from the final Blair/Chuck scene in the bar. Chuck was HORRIBLE to her. Yeah, Blair isn't totally innocent in all this, but his virgin/whore double standard was just too much! He only wanted her when she was pure and untouched? More like he only wanted her when he thought he had a chance, and now that he knows he's her second choice, he wants to cover up his feelings! We'd say that he should be a man about it, but by now we know Chuck isn't capable.
After the jump, our take on who's up and who's down after this episode, so read on!
Defining Awesome:
Serena
Once again, she proves that she's the best friend on this show. Loyal to the core, Serena tells the truth even when it hurts, and she supports Blair through ANYTHING. Honestly, it's hard to believe this Serena would ever have slept with Nate. She cares for Blair so much, and she shows it every episode.
Dan
Yeah, he can be whiny and judgy. But Dan was great last night. When he thought Serena was pregnant, his first thought was how he could be there for her. And once he found out she wasn't, he set out to tell he loved her... not that it was easy to get the words out. When he finally did, though, he reminded us why we like those two together so much (most of the time).
Eric
Serena's little bro doesn't get much screentime, but when he does, he knows how to dish out great advice. The younger Van der Woodsen is wise beyond his years! We hope to see more of him in future episodes.
Going Down:
Blair
We haven't always been the biggest Blair Waldorf fans here at The Source, but she managed to touch our cynical hearts with last night's display of emotion. Yeah, she brought a lot of it on herself --if she hadn't slept with Chuck, she wouldn't be at the mercy of His Royal Evilness. If she'd been nicer to Jenny, Jenny might not have been so quick to expose her. But still. Did she really deserve all this? It's open for debate...
Nate
He has a right to be upset -- his girlfriend slept with his best friend. But has he forgotten that just last year, he did the exact same thing to Blair WHEN THEY WERE STILL TOGETHER? Show a little compassion, Nate! Your relationship crime's still way worse.
Chuck
We're torn about Chuck. He has a right to be mad at Blair, yes. But to compare her to one of his father's Arabians? To treat her like she's nothing more than any one of the girls he sleeps with and casts aside? To attack her for losing her virginity? Unacceptable. He'd better be prepared to grovel if he wants a second of her time in the future.
Cute, But Not Essential to the Plot:
Rufus
Rufus is dating again! And it's not Lily or Allison! We'd be more excited if this took place during a different episode, but last night we were counting the minutes until Rufus's scenes ended so we could get back to the real drama of the evening. And we love Rufus! But his plot just wasn't half as compelling as Blair's.
Beyond Redemption:
Jenny
Let us count the reasons Jenny is now our least favorite character, by far:
*She betrayed Serena AND Blair by spilling Serena's secret about Blair to Nate.
*She almost caused major problems in Dan and Serena's relationship by spilling that info.
*She not only participated in the dethroning of Blair, but she happily took Blair's spot. What happened to that conscience we saw earlier in the season? Did Little J throw it out with last year's clothes? HATE.
Do you agree with us? Tell us what you thought of the episode in the comments!

Aaaww I felt so bad for Chuck in this episode. Now he has no one. I really hope gg will bring his mommy to take care of him.
Blair was being a WITCH imo. She deserved everything she got and I ENJOYED every second of it!
Best part was the bar scene. Seriously, Ed should leave gg n pursue a movie career. He is one of a kind n he I can't wait to see him play bigger and better roles. Leigh was pretty awesome too. Honestly this scene was the best acted of the season, Ed n Leigh act circles around the likes of Serena/Nate/Dan and it shows. Dan Serena scene sucked in comparison.
Bring in Ed n Leighton JOSH, bring in the quality man.

I really do hope B & N get back together! I love them so much. When Nate actually loves blair they have to break up. They have to get back together.

This episode of GG was so hot. I loved every minute of it and I can't wait for it! For a minute, im sure i'm not the only one who thought Blair was going to get on that plane and pull a "serena" on us. But now her and Nate are broken up and now she has no one But Serena. That is how the story ends.

Okay.
So I adore Dan. Officially.
"I love you for interrupting me". THAT IS BEYOND INCREDIBLE.
I much agree with the statement about Nate overreacting. Like, shut up. Such a hypocrite...
Also...Chuck=dick. I mean, seriously, I understand the hurt, but what he said was just cruel. Same goes for Jenny-I expected better from her.
