The eyes.
I find don't usually like a guy with green eyes, especially ones like Jensen's seeing as they match mine almost to a t. however, when I look at his eyes in pictures or on screen, I'm completely captivated. Not just because their stunning but because of the emotions that pour through them with the slightest gesture.

Why Jensen Rocks?? He was seen very recently at McAllister's Deli in Garland, Tx and my nephew Russ, who works there, went up to him and shook his hand as he was leaving and Jensen did not turn away like a lot of other stuck up actors you try and talk to. Jensen, thank you for being you :) I guess it pays to grow up in Texas.

The pleasantness
The main reason why I like Jensen Ackles is that he seems to be a very nice person, with great humour and modesty. Anyone can see that he is a talented actor but I wonder if he realizes what a likeable and well-mannered man he also seems to be. Whether in interviews, TV programs or conventions’ videos, he always appears composed, open-minded and charming. I appreciate the fact that he is sarcastic without being nasty, funny in a very casual way and down-to-earth even though he is engaged in a job that is prone to put people on a pedestal. The people who work with him all seem to appreciate him, the fans who encountered him are all delighted and you just have to watch the gag reels of Supernatural to see that he must really be a pleasant person. It is very agreeable and refreshing to see people like him.

So, Mr Ackles, thank you for making Dean so appealing.

Because you can see that it's there, from the laughter and joking around to the true sadness and tears to being very good at being pissed off.
I feel what he feels and it's real to me. Not many can do that and Jensen does it constantly, and yes I have seen Devour.

The Attention to Detail

The furniture really does act better when Jensen Ackles is around because he interacts with it. Really good with props, even back in his "Dark Angel" days, he makes interesting actor's choices, from adjusting the rearview mirror on the Impala to tying his shoe. He uses whatever environment he is dropped into to avoid becoming a "talking head." Usually overlooked because of his outstanding acting abilities, this "stage business" really adds a lot to a scene. Happy Belated Birthday! I am looking forward to many more years of fine entertainment!

I love the way he turns Dean Winchester into a living, breathing character that I find myself caring about. He makes us want to know what's going to happen next. He has developed Dean into a multi-faceted hero who is brave, kind, gentle, fierce, loyal, dedicated, dangerous, funny, lusty, respectful, scared, angry, focused, smart, and loving, and irreverant. He makes Dean into a guy who can find concentrated joy in a cheeseburger, passion in a pretty woman, humor in most things, and tenderness for the memories of his mother.

A few memorable things Ackles makes us watch with either a laugh or a heartwrench: 1. Brain freeze from too much ice-cream. 2. Hyperventilating about the car. 3. Burrowing his face into his mother's hand. 4. Telling Layla he'll pray for her. 5. His reaction when Sam tells him he prays every day. 6. His "I will kill you all" threat to the Benders. 7. His, "Please, Dad" line to John/YED in Season One. 8. The way he spills his guts against his will to Andy while sitting in the car. 9. The look of utter amazement and "You little s--t!" expression on his face when Missy Bender pins him to the wall with her knife (big strong Dean didn't properly evaluate his opponent, there!) 10. "Oh, God, please let that be a rifle." 11. He was afraid of Ellen, like any smart young man would be when dealing with a young lady's mother. 12. His reactions to Missouri -- big strong hero has to obey and submit to being bossed around, criticized, and whacked upside the head without any backtalk. 13. The "uh-oh, I'm in trouble" look on his face when Lisa turns on him after Ben whups up on Humphrey. 14. The unbeatable look of triumph on his face as he fires the Colt at YED. 15. And probably the best: that heartwrenching cry, "What am I supposed to do!" line delivered so superbly. Only a robot could fail to react to that.

He's a modern-day knight in shining armor whose armor isn't all that shiny because he's too busy to keep every spot polished up. Of course, like any knight, he keeps his steed well fed and brushed.

I also very much like the fact that neither he nor Jared Padalecki seem to be troublemakers or run afoul of the law. They both speak well of their families and their backgrounds. I think it's interesting and very nice that they both come from families where the parents are still together.

The Fearlessness

Jensen is willing to try his hand at anything. And once he finds his groove he'll put all his energy and gut into what he's doing, to a point of pure fearlessness. He takes on positions and puts pure pride into everything he does (when other actors might consider such roles a blow to the pride). He never seemes to shy away from the bizzare or oddity that's asked of him, nothing seems to spook him away from what he wants to do. Everything from the bowl hair cut and kakhis in a thirty second appearance in Wishbone to the grown out, dyed and horrifyingly spiked mohawk and kilt in Ten Inch Hero! Of course we'll always love him best in his military cut and torn up jeans!

The Commitment: I am talking about the way every episode of Supernatural, especially those few episodes that were not so stellar in terms of writing that he carried through with his dedication giving it his full 100 percent talent. His total immersion and dedication to the roles he has is what makes him a great actor willingly to get out of his comfort zone.
Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into the character Dean and Supernatural Jensen. It's the wonderful efforts of you and Jared that keeps people coming back to watch the Winchester brothers not the demons and ghouls.

I've never understood how people could get so attached to celebrities they didn't know until I started watching Supernatural. Jensen has an awfully endearing tendency to break my heart, a tendency which Jared is also picking up on since they've started working together, and they always put it back together again with sheer awesomeness.

The end of Dream a Little Dream of Me (trying not to be spoilery >.>) just confirmed what I've suspected for a while: this guy, and this show, OWN MY SOUL. Jensen, I hope you stick with Supernatural as long as you can, and that you get to do other fabulous things in the future, as well. I'll be doing my absolute best to see every movie you make (and I'm working on catching up on the old stuff!)

I'm surprised the film producers aren't clamouring for him, but I'm glad that we get to see his talent more often because he's on the small screen.

He's not only an incredibly gifted actor (and you have to be to not only act in soaps and dramas, but to do it with such genuine feeling and depth), and one of the most gorgeous men I've ever seen (his smile and eyes take my breath away).
When I first watched a video of him singing 'Crazy Love' my heart sung. The soul he shows in his voice, speaking and singing is a beautiful thing.

I love that he has such a trusting working relationship with Jared that if either man believes that the other has a better performance in him on set, or is sleepwalking through a scene both men care enough and are honest enough to let the other know.

So many things have already been said that I hesitate to comment myself. Yet, how can I not....when I first started watching Supernatural during the first season I will admit although I loved the character, I hadn't yet been hit with the Dean lightning-bolt of greatness, it snuck up on me as I watched him creat depth out of the character of Dean Winchester. Cocky-one lined womanizer became the unselfish, giving, but never asking with a side order of meloncoly. His blazing loyality to his family and all the self sacrafice, covered over by gthe snarky joking brother we all love.
Jensen's performance has become flawless has me laughing, then in tears....what a bittersweet place I find in his eyes. The more I learn about the real man behind the character the more I love him, and yet nothing I say could really express how I feel about him...about the show. They helped me find something I'd lost long ago, a part of my self identady I thought was lost...my inspiration to write. So Jensen thats why you are so great because you inspire us to become better people.

Jensen is the greatest there is. The probable reason they won't put him on the big screen is because they are afraid that he'll push all the current celebs into the shadows. I haven't had the honors of meeting him yet, but I don't need to do that to realize that he is the best guy there is. The way he does Dean can't be described in words. He is obviously the best man to do the job, and he just keeps proving it every week. Another thing is, as said before, his spontaneity, a.k.a. his humor, the way he makes everyone laugh. That laugh shines a very bright and warm light in all directions. If you are unhappy at that particular moment, I'm sure that smile will pull all the unhappiness out of you. (That's what happened in my case.) I would have to agree with a previous entry, that there aren't enough numbers to count the reasons why Jensen is simply the best. Anyhow, I hope that there will be a con outside the English speaking territory, so that I could come and at least get an autograph. In this time zone at least, Jensen's birthday will last for another half an hour, so I better make this quick.

Reasons we love Jensen? There are so many to choose from. I completely agree with all those reasons given so far.

For me the thing that clinched it was when I discovered that, despite his great skills in front of the camera as an actor, he is not the most comfortable when he is being interviewed.

The man is a fantastic talent but for him to be reserved and at times shy and/or uncomfortable talking about himself is completely endearing.

I remember in the StarTV interview, when asked what scares him he pointed to the camera and said, "that camera right there". So sweet.

He rocks for not getting into the whole Hollywood scene, he's a Texan boy who loves his family and tries to keep his personal life out of the limelight.

As for his acting, his range is amazing, from in your face comedy to an understated single look that somehow conveys half a dozen emotions. I'm genuinely excited about the rest of his career.

I love how he wants to make the set happy and comfortable for the people who work there, and everyone who works on Supernatural only have great things to say about the experience.

Happy Birthday Jensen Ackles.
I don't know if this even gehts through but I still will write something.
6 years ago, when Dark Angel first aired in Germany I recognized this handsome man in one episode. I googled him the next day and found a little about him. I didn't really remembered his name until - the second season of Dark Angel aired and I was like: Whoa, this is great. Jensen Ackles is a main character. I was 14 back then and had a not so good time. Jensen Ackles accompanied me in my teenager-time and ... yeah I was kind of obsessed with him. Then a few years I didn't really care for any tv stuff until Smallville 4th season aired in Germany. Well... I was older and did not just see his good looks. I saw him as my first real celebrity crush... who accompanied me through a really tough time. When I sat alone in my room watching SV oder DA. But more and more I saw his personality... at least that what you can "see" in a star. Then came SPN and I totally "fell in love" with him and like a lot of other fans I tried to find everything out what I could.
Like I said before - it's not just his good looks. He is sweet and always kind to fans at meetings even when there are incidents like at Asylum '07. He has a great sense of humor and a great chemistry with Jared. All this makes it quite hard not to like him.
Again: Happy Birthday Jensen Ackles, all good in the world, luck in your relationship, in your career and in your life.

Jensen is definitely everything everyone has said.

What I can add is this:

Jensen has helped me in many ways. (Not in the physical sense) I've gone through a lot of crap in the past 3 years and if it hadnt been for him and Supernatural, I probably wouldnt be sitting here, typing this. I'd probably be...well...let's just say, I'd be partying with Princess Diana and Elvis.
I had some issues with self injury and Jensen gave me something to look forward to...an outlet. I could watch Supernatural and not think about a razor or the last fight I had with my mom. I could watch him and my life would seem lighter for that hour. I may not know him but this guy has kept me alive. Thanks Jen! Happy Birthday!

ok some more reasons to add to the list.
6) Texas. Hes a good ol' Texas boy through and through. Texas boys are proud, respectful gentlemen and probably part of the reason he hasn't "lost himself"

7) Intelligence. Jensen knows just because he is an actor making the big bucks doesn't mean he can slide by life without knowledge. Jensen has said IF he watches TV its usually the discovery channel and he reads lots of books including the encyclopedia.
8) Hard worker and dedicated. Supernatural takes A LOT of time, a lot more than most TV shows and it takes him away from home for 9 months of the year. Jensen (and Jared) both do most their own stunts and both work their tail off to provide the audience with a great product.
9) Considerate/caring. Kripke said that he had a confrence call with both boys during the writers strike and the FIRST thing he heard from both of them was how the crew was doing, and if they could do anything to help (meaning financially/support because they were out of work).
10) Gratitude. Jensen doesnt take his gift and career for granted. He has said he is very fortunate to have a job that takes him all over the world and he is able to contribute and do the things he does.
11) The Sarcasm. Ya gotta love his sarcastic humor its hilarious and witty. The world would be a better place if people just lived life and took things in stride--dont sweat the small stuff and make life fun/funny!
12) The eyes. Ok i had to have ONE of these. I LOVE his greenish eyes--absolutely amazing.
13) The professionalism. Jensen is a professional--he does not get caught up in the red carpet hollywood drama. He tries to live a normal life and does what he has to for the suits.
14) The carefree boy. Jensen knows how to be laid-back and have fun. Pulling a prank or just havin a good time with a buddy--that is Jensen. But he knows when to turn it off and get work done.

The determination not be mediocre. The most important thing for Jensen it seems is to give Dean justice each and every performance. He keeps the character near and dear and that shines through in every episode.

I agree with your initial reasons, beginning with his acting skill. His ability was the first thing that caught my eye (okay, the second thing: eyes went to 'teh pretty' first, I suppose!) when he played Ben in the "Pollo Loco" episode of "Dark Angel."

To your list, and to the additions proposed by others (especially including Dodger's one of "Respect"), I would add:

Professionalism

From everything I've seen, his focus is always on doing the best possible job, whether it's in portraying his character in take after take, in interacting with fans, or in delivering on an interview. He always appears to be prepared and fully committed to the moment. Commentary by others on his work has stressed the care he takes to deliver on a performance (learning to play piano - and brilliantly, too! - for one episode of "Dark Angel", and taking exquisite care of Annette O'Toole while filming the scene in "Smallville" where his character Jason manhandled her Martha Kent) both in terms of his own delivery and for what he gives generously to his fellow actors to make their performances also the best they could do.

Generosity

As noted above, Jensen yields the spotlight to others, and does things in his own performance to showcase the abilities and delivery of the folk he's working with. He also gives of his own time and attention to fans and interviewers.

One of the reasons Jensen is so fantastic is the sheer scale of his talents. I'm not talking about his acting here (although he is amazing), but about his singing.
Jensen has such a beautiful voice that he's not afraid to share. I love that he will get up on stage for his fans and duet with a friend of his (Crazy Love, anyone?!) even though he's not really in the mood to. Or that he’ll be a backing singer to help a friend out. Jensen could easily slip into the music business, and he could make a fortune, I bet! Jensen Ackles is a Man of his word:

I met him in Texas at the play he did. He looked very tired after the performance but was graciously meeting members of the press and VIPS.

There was a young lady and her mother traveling with me. The young lady was there to see Jensen in the play as a graduation present. Jensen was very nice to pose for a picture with the young lady, but when he stepped away her mother noticed that Jensen's head was cut off in the photo.

Jensen said he would come back and retake the photo when he was finished talking to his family. I have often heard other celebs make a promise like this when they are tired and they often do not come back because they have simply lost track and want to go home.

Jensen Ackles, even as exhausted as he was, was an absolute man of his word and came back to retake the photo with the young lady. It turned out great and he even thanked us for being there and waiting on him.

Happy 30th birthday to Jensen Ackles who is a talented, actor, handsome gentleman and an absolute man of his word.

I have to agree with the beginning of the list and would like to add that not only is he a talented actor but he can sing too!!!

The Respect.

Why does Jensen rock? All of your reasons to be sure, but it's the level of respect he affords every subject that rocks the boat hardest. While he's clearly a master of The Funny and The Genuine, and it was very, very hard not to pick "The Smart" as right answer here, I have to go with The Respect just because Jensen doesn't glib off on questions where snark is the easy answer, nor PR the company line instead of giving due consideration to the actual conversation in which he is engaged.

So much of an actor's present is based on their ability to read the context of any question and respond to the best possible APPEARANCE of being smart, funny, charming, sexy ... whatever. But you can see Jensen THINKING in those eyes of his, and you can see the answer coming from his brain, not his publicist.

And that's respect ... not for his career, but for his art, his fans and whatever interviewer is asking him a question he's probably been asked a hundred times, yet he still shows the individual he's talking to the respect of answering their question from the moment he's in rather than trotting out some boilerplate response that's more fast-twitch muscle memory than anything else.

Happy Birthday, Jensen. You're not a major movie star yet for the same reasons you will be a major acting icon later ... you got the respect. And the soul and the smart to back it.

You already listed the gorgeousness, so no, I'm not talking about Jensen's smile itself here. (But oh, I could. Elaborately.)

This is about how he makes *us* smile. Whether it be in blissed out joy over his acting, about his deadpan jokes in interviews or because he once more manages to lighten our mood by simply smiling himself.

And to list a reason within this reason:
Because the ways he makes us smile would make a pretty long list by themselves already. :D

How he hasn't let celebrity get to him. He doesn't do things to get the paparazzi on him (he knows bad publicity is not acceptable publicity). He is still good friends with many of the people he first knew out here, and he treats them all with respect. No matter what stage their own careers are at. He's a genuine Texas gentleman.

I agree with all of the reasons listed so far!I think that Jensen is an awesome actor and I love how every character he acts with he really shows the emotion of the scene. The scenes that I'm thinking of are the moments with Jared (Sam) or when he was in What is and Should Never Be where he showed such emotion with his eyes! Just awesome!

Dude, the eye lashes! They're GORGEOUS. They curl to perfection, they are long and just beautiful. A little--okay a lot--superficial, but they are worth noting.

Also, the versatility of his acting ability is astonishing. He's got great comedic timing, but he can also do the pure, brooding angst like no other. Fabulous.

Genuine
You hear about how he talks to people at question and answer sessions and even hearing about random fan encounters. He is really genuine to people which to me speaks volumes about him as a person. I would rather hear about someone who took the time to talk to a fan genuinly then hear about anything else. I think it is a fantastic thing that he is like that even if he might be stressed or possibly tired. :)

His eyebrows and dorkiness.

What? The man can express so much with just a twitch of those eyebrows. He is also a big dork and it makes him all the more real and approachable.

While watching any character played by Jensen..for sometime I just forget all the ups and downs of real life..and he really make me laugh, whenever I needed one...and sometimes tears to let out that have burdened me from inside..
Really really awesome and amazing actor..May you continue success and give us more reasons to be proud of you in future...

Okay, I'm going to be the one to go somewhat shallow (although not really) but:
1. His smile - from the eye crinkles to his fabulous lips to how it makes the world shine brighter anytime he really lets it out.
2. His freckles - c'mon, don't they just make you go awwwww how adorable?
3. His voice - the way its rough when he talks and sweet when he sings, the way he uses it almost like its an entity of its own.

I'll stop there before I get more weird looks *g*

Jensen is an actor who adds life to his character Dean. He loves the character, and plays him well. He tends to bring a little bit of humor to tense situations and at the same time reminds us of classic movies that bring back memories.

I had the enormous pleasure of meeting Jensen in person back in September, 2007, and he was sweet, gracious and accommodating as he stood posing for pictures with me and my friends. He's a southern gentleman, a fantastic actor and a sweetheart of a guy! Happy 30th, Jensen, and many more! Love, Robin

yeah, he's annoyingly good-looking ... yes, he has molestable freckles. but what i appreciate most about him is his sense of humour. far from being ridiculous or narrow-minded, jensen is able to drop a mean one-liner and knock anyone off. it's hard to find good sarcasm - and jensen delivers it flawlessly.

Good grief there are so many reasons...

Like, the way he can express so much with just an ever-so-subtle change in stance, or expression.

The fact that he seems to *get* how much it means to fans to get the chance to interact with him (met him at Asylum con last year - he was such a sweetie!).

The fact that he's just so damn talented, he can pull the viewer into a character and then pull the rug out from under the viewer in a heartbeat - and still make that viewer love him for it.

All in? The main reason Jensen rocks? Because he's Jensen.

Happy Birthday Jensen! Ahhh the big 3 0, welcome to my world mate! Now all I can say is... does that mean I can come up with 30 perfect reasons why we love you? Or your character, or even Supernatural for that matter!

Happy birthday, Jensen! Your performances were what hooked me on Supernatural, and your Dean continues to be the absolute best reason to watch this show. May you continue to work for a long time, so I can keep enjoying your acting!

Re: the topic (30 reasons we love the guy), I'd like to add that, in addition to the "plays well with others" mention about having good chemistry with others onscreen, it doesn't seem like any former coworker of his has anything bad to say about him. They're all quite complimentary of his work ethic and his interactions with others, and in an industry full of insecure, diva-ish people, that's incredibly refreshing to hear.

His sense of values. It's refreshing to come encounter an actor who consciously avoids the spotlight at the possible expense of "fast-tracking" his career. The people he chooses to spend time with who are not necessarily in "the business." The way he defers to his companion at interviews, even if it makes him appear unoriginal. His need for discretion regarding his private life. Answering a question as if it's the first time it was ever asked. Responding to a compliment as if he hadn't already heard it a million times before. The way he makes cast, crew and guests feel like members of his family. His commitment to always giving the best performance possible. I could go on for days.

Jensen, don't ever change! Happy, happy birthday to you!

6. His commitment to his art. When he didn't get the part of Clark Kent on Smallville, did he run away crying? Nope. And they liked him so much that they wrote a character for him. When he tried out for Sam Winchester and Jared turned out to be a better fit for that role, did he turn his back on the show? No way. He asked to audition for Dean, blew it out of the water, and we got the best two actors ever to play our favorite brothers. But I think this quote from Jensen sums up his take on acting and his career: "I like the fast pace of it. It really forces you to become good at what you do, because if you're not, you're going to get left behind." And he certainly has not been left behind in any way, shape, or form. In fact, he's leading the pack.
