Smallville: Sing Like a (Black) Canary

Black CanaryLots of action on Smallville this week – we get a new super-powered crime fighter, the return of a much-loved figure, plenty of relationship angst, and lots and lots of (well-deserved) verbal smackdowns. Good stuff!

Remember Green Arrow and his leather fetish? He looks positively plain next to the new girl in town, who paints on a mask, pours herself into leathers and fishnets, throws knives, jumps off buildings – and oh yeah, has a sonic scream that can disintegrate arrows, shatter glass and even make Clark Kent's ears bleed. Not bad!

Our Bird of Prey is working for Lex, who tells her industrial spies are stealing his trade secrets and sabotaging his factories. She believes him, and uses her sleuthing skills to track down, expose and disable Ollie. It takes a Clark Kent intervention to make her see the error of her ways. In the end, she realizes who the good guys really are, and joins the League.

But that's just one part of the story. The rest? Relationship angst!

Yep, everyone is having a rotten time on Lover's Lane. Speaking of Lane -- Lois is not at all happy to find that Ollie has returned after he broke her heart. Seeing Ollie shirtless does wonders for her disposition (ours, too!) Before they can get romantic again, Canary's scream exposes Ollie's secret identity -- and Lois freaks. Ollie begs her to give him a chance, but Lois tearfully says it would never work -- she can't keep a secret, and she can't deal with the dual-identity thing. Later, she confesses to Clark that it's far too disheartening to stay with someone who will always see you as a lesser priority to their real mission, someone whose destiny is much greater than hers will ever be. That right there is what we call irony. Did you get it?

Clark and Lana aren't having much more fun -- they're still awkward and stilted around each other. Lana reveals a little more about her nefarious deeds while Clark was gone, and he flips -- I thought we had no more secrets! You're only honest with me when you're threatened!
Lana calls him on being judgmental, and the gloves are off. Clark accuses her of wanting Bizarro, and Lana admits the relationship was easier with him. Ouch. In the end, however, Clark realizes he's done his share of bad things, and the two pledge to try to work it out.
Will their relationship survive?

A majority of fans had too much Lana in season one. Now it just makes Clark look like a total moron and a huge hypocrite to let Lana get by with kidnapping and torture while vilifying Lex for the same thing. I wasn't that excited by the Black Canary but I gotta give her props for calling Nois on her crap in the elevator scene.

As for where the show should go let's dump the Clana right now, give us the Chlark we've been waiting for for seven years and dump Nois. Chloe remains the real Lois Lane of this show and Clark only needs to make history with her. Nois can't cut it.

Really good episode!
I like all of the cast members.
I'm really really getting frustrated with all of this Clark & Lana business, but I guess if you're reaching my emotions Smallville's doing something right.

But, before the series ends, give us a little bit of Clark & Chloe, just so we can be satisfied, then end it nicely, and let Lois & Clark make history.

This show just gets better and better each season. I hope it never ends. CW please never cancel Smallville.

good to see justin hartley. i like the green arrow, but in small doses.

black canary? casting was off. try another actress. smallville producers: casting has been off. your casting consultants should be fired. i like supergirl but not the actress who plays her.

this epi was okay. chloe needs more airtime; less with erica durance.

OMG enough with the Clana crap!!!!

I like BC but if another actress played her cough Hilarie Burton cough it would have been better. I wanted some Ga and Bc loving.
