Beauty and the Geek: Science and Sex

Beauty and the Geek goes back to its comfortable old routine, and we’re much happier with it. But we have to wonder – would you take sex advice from any of those Geeks? And would you ask for a science lesson from any of those Beauties? Because we sure wouldn’t!

But first, there was some unfinished business – Tara had to choose the last Geek to remain in the house. She went with Cowboy Joe, and we’re kind of torn. He just bugs us! He’s too talky, too cocky, and too into himself. We wonder if he’s really willing to learn from Tara – or anyone.

On the other hand… Jonathan didn’t do himself any favors when he announced that he was looking forward to seeing his mother again. Dude, that just adds to the Norman Bates vibe you give off. But we have to admit, we’re a bit disappointed that he got kicked off before the makeover episode – we have a feeling that Jonathan would have come out looking pretty good.

This week, the Beauties had to compete in a science fair using the popular favorites of volcanoes, earthquakes and solar power.

Some of the beauties did a pretty good job – we liked Cara’s illustration of the earth’s composition using a hard-boiled egg, for example, and we though Tara sounded like she knew what she was talking about until they got to the math. But Randi was more concerned with how the volcano looked, and Leticia completely lost it plot. Tiffany knew her stuff, but she sounded so tentative that no one would believe her. Cara took the win.

The Geeks were assisting Dr. Drew on his radio call-in show, and we feared for the worst. Tommy couldn’t even listen to sample questions about being sexually active when they were practicing at the mansion! But he actually did a pretty job responding to the question, and he won the challenge. The worst? We’d say Cowboy Joe, who likes the sound of his own voice so much that he went on and on and never got around to answering the question at all. Shut up, Joe!

The elimination came down to Leticia and Matt vs. Tiffany and Jim. And we have to admit, we were a bit disappointed that Jim and Tiffany got the boot. Jim seemed like a Geek who could really blossom at the house, and Tiffany seemed really sweet.

What did you think? Who’s your favorite couple now? Who did the best in the competitions? Talk about it in the comments!

You're NOT on the CW's paycheck? That REALLY confused me, considering Tribune picks up your Blog...which, if you'll notice, Tribune runs a god-awful amount of CW affiliates around the nation. In part because of the UPN/WB merge, and in part, it just makes more sense for Tribune to consolidate their holdings into one affiliation.

I'll go ahead and defend Jonathan here, because I'll admit that they caught my spirit pretty well. With the exception of a couple things...but I don't think it would be proper to bring those things up here, so I won't.

My good friend Jonathan had lived a pretty sheltered life up to this moment. Seriously. And, granted, he had his creepy moments on the show -- name one of us who didn't...except for Tommy, Chris, Jason, Greg, and John E., and Matt, we all had our moments of general creepiness.

I think, going in, Jonathan was one of the quietest guys I knew...except for subjects that truely mattered to him. And what I'm really saddened by is the fact that they didn't show more of Jonathan and his abilities -- such as his getting fourteen (count 'em -- fourteen!) numbers at the club in the first challenge, or how in the football game, how I could toss to him and count on him to be my backup quarterback.

All in all, you're REALLY selling Jonathan short. Because he was one of those guys who, right or wrong, even when he didn't know what was going on, fought on for the greater cause. Even when he may have been wrong, he fought on for the greater cause. And, its granted that we signed up for the scorn that comes with being on a reality show...but for us putting our misery on display, we deserve better than that.

I'm not trying to take away your First Amendment Rights -- they're yours for the taking. All I'm asking is that you look harder into things, and think twice, before posting your opinion for all the world to see. People's livelihoods are affected by what you write, believe it or not. I addressed this same thing in my own blog...but that's a horse of a differnet color.

(And even though my boss and co-workers appreciated the "Raging Diva" comment posted here, I was somewhere between bemused and besmirched there)

I agree -- you're allowed to have whatever opinion you so deem worthy. And your comments aren't the worst that we've recieved so far. To quote Elton John, all I ask is that you "...don't give up, if you can, and have a little faith in man."

In this case, please, have a little faith in us geeks.

Thank you for taking the time to take our concerns into consideration -- God knows I appreciate the rebuttial time...and I hope that I havne't been too offensive in my approach.

I look forward to your comments looking toward next week's episode. :-)

First off, we’re not The CW – that’s why we can have opinions on the shows. And you’re more than welcome to disagree with those opinions – that’s why we have comments, and that’s why we’re glad you took the time to write.

Second, I'm sorry you found the comments offensive, but it comes with the territory of being on reality TV. We’re getting a very skewed slice of who you are, as defined by the editors on the show. Jonathan, in your case, they emphasized your attachment to your mom, labeled you the “mama’s boy” geek, and had a bunch of the beauties talk about how they found you creepy. Now, you might have been connecting with people, having long conversations about politics or movies or the weather, saving puppies from burning buildings, whatever – we didn’t see that. We just saw you say “I’m looking forward to seeing my mom again,” an a couple minutes of uncomfortable silence, emphasized by no music, no background noise, nothing. Jonathan-the-person may not give off a creepy vibe, but Jonathan-the-TV-character did. Take it up with the editors.

Also, I’ve got to think that what you read in our posts isn’t going to be the worst stuff out there.

(And I will freely admit that I can never go on one of those shows, because I’ve got enough telegenically hateable characteristics that I’d be hunted down in the streets. There’s more to me than that, but I know damn well that that’s what would show up on the TV screen.)

Look, feel free to set the record straight – tell us why we’re wrong, give us evidence, tell us what really happened on the show. But don’t be surprised when people have opinions that you don’t like, based on a picture of you that you didn’t present.

I actually concur with Jonathan -- that Norman Bates comment is incredibly offensive and tasteless.

In fact, your entire blog entry is incredibly tasteless and tactless. You're on the CW Payroll -- start acting like it!

That Norman Bates remark is offensive and uncalled for. When I had been eliminated I hadn't seen my mom in over half a month. Who wouldn't want to see their mom after being eliminated in such a horrible way?
