Beauty and the Geek: Yuck!
It was a battle of the odious this week on Beauty and the Geek, with two people fighting for the title of Most Repugnant. Hey guys? See those cameras? They're watching you all the time.
Things went horribly awry in the first five minutes. The mansion makes spooky noises, and some of the Beauties contend it's haunted (we imagine with the shades of murdered dignity). Tara is apparently the most prone to ghost sightings, so everyone else in the house decides to have some fun. They dress Tommy up as a vampire (complete with drawn-on widow's peak) and send him in to scare her. Cowboy Joe decides to guard the door and protect his Beauty from a (in our view, harmless) practical joke, and feathers start to fly. Randi gets nasty, as is her wont -- you're not her man! You can't protect her! You're pathetic! She bugs the crap out of us.
That does not, of course, excuse what Joe does next -- he spits at Randi. Seriously? Spitting?
But here's the thing -- even after that completely unacceptable action, Randi STILL comes out looking worse.
She picks up the personal attacks and keeps at it forever, even when Joe tries to apologize. When she rejects his attempts, Joe takes back the apology, and the war goes on. When Tara tells her to back off, Randi swings in to attack her. Randi? Shut up.
The challenges this week involve math and fire. The Geeks have to play the hero and rescue their beauties from a burning building, courtesy of the LA Fire Department's training grounds. That involves quickly donning firefighting gear, attaching a hose, dragging it to the building and extinguishing a barrel fire, climbing up stairs and then jumping out the window onto a stuntman-type safety bag. Joe, who's feeling lousy about what he's put Tara through, tries to make a good showing, and his time is the one to beat for a while. We were amazed that Jason took so dang long to put on the outfit, and Leticia (who went in for Matt, since his shoulder injury eliminated him) had a bad time attaching the hose. Greggie lost the race, but he gets style points, screaming "I'll save your weave!" to the imperiled Randi. Hee!
But Chris and Tommy really put on the speed. Chris beats Joe's time by more than a minute, and it looks like he's got the lead. Tommy fumbles with the hose for a while, but he puts on a burst of speed and comes out in front. Tommy and Amanda are safe.
The Beauties get some practical math -- they have to root through a pile of trash to get exactly $5 worth of recyclables. The Beauties are appalled -- trash AND math? The horror! Tara talks a good game about wanting to save her team, but she's gagging at the smell, distracted by discarded My Little Ponies, and soon gives up. Both Cara and Randi show they can't add, while Leticia miscounts. Kristina wins, so she and Jason are safe.
We know Joe and Tara are up for elimination, but who will join them? Surprise! It's Randi! Unfortunately, that means it's also Greggie. Curses! We love our little Gaysian! If only he was partnered with someone less despicable...
In the challenge, Joe and Tara manage to get the correct answers first. We never thought we'd say it, but we're glad Joe won -- Randi was just evil. Joe still pisses us off (and Tara is getting on our nerves, too -- she's very pouty about being paired with Joe, but hey, she picked him!) but just this once, he was the lesser of two evils. We never thought we'd say that.

Harmless practical joke? HARMLESS? Are we watching the same show, Sarah? Because, if we were, then you would have seen what I had seen -- one Tara, scared of the supernatural, with the stress of being in the house getting to her to the point that she was having NIGHTMARES about it. That's right -- nightmares.
So lets add up the facts here -- my partner, scared to death about these things, and my lack of action would have resulted how? In a harmless prank? There's NOTHING harmless about what they would have done to that girl, and I, and anyone else watching this show, will stand behind that until our dying day.
But, again, you have an excuse -- one-sided yellow journalism is a staple of Tribune's broadcast holdings.
Was I right in the fight against Randi? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I acknowledge that, and I feel incredibly remorseful for what I've done. And to this day, it haunts me that I have been a bad representative of what I believe, and what I claim to hold dear. And I have to live with that over my head until the end of my days. What's worse, is that all of America has watched me put my misery on display.
While I appreciate the fact that you acknowledge that I'm the lesser of two evils...check your facts again. Rewatch the episode. And truely ponder what would have been the lesser of two evils: the indifference of a righteous man, or fighting a fight in the most unkosher of ways?

That's kind of unfair to Tara, since if you remember, Tiffany pretty much screwed her during the partner picking thing. Tara thought she was partnering with Jim, and then when Tara took him she was left with a choice between Joe and Jonathan on the spot.
